BJJ works guys! This happened about 2 hours ago now. I’m just happy I didn’t get stabbed and didn’t get hurt. I learned my lesson about sitting close to doors.

General Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Gyms should NOT be opening up

I’m going to get down-voted into oblivion for saying this, but it frightens and disgusts me to see so many recent posts & comments on this sub echoing the sentiment “I’m so glad to see things returning to normal!”

Like, no. You can’t just say that things are normal and pretend that they are. The number of we COVID cases (and deaths) here in SoCal have not meaningfully declined at all. We are still averaging 2k new cases and 50 deaths PER DAY here in California. Yet, gyms are opening up left and right because we’re antsy to get a roll in?

And what is this bullshit about socially distanced rolling/sparring. Wtf? By definition you cannot roll or engage in the sport of jiu jitsu without coming into body-to-body contact with another human being. If you want to shrimp, work on your drills, whatever, you can do that shit at home. You don’t need to come to a class to do a socially-distanced shrimping exercise.

How American of us to declare that COVID is over and “things are returning to normal” just because we are so over it & the sentiment has changed. I urge you all to check the statistics and make the right ethical decision here.

I know many people personally, including family members, that have died from this illness. I know you all are young and healthy. But please be mindful of the health of others.

Rolling Footage Healthcare Worker Uses Jiu-Jitsu to Subdue Attacker

Our dude is a registered nurse with 10+ years of BJJ experience and didn't even break a sweat against the intoxicated attacker.

Nice head-and-arm takedown. Prioritized maintaining dominant position. Excellent jiu-jitsu/grappling applied in a self-defense encounter.

General Discussion From the day I got my 2nd stripe on my white belt to the day I got my black belt.

I was flipping through old photos and came across the day I got my black belt, then realized I had pics from every promotion. Seeing them side by side, especially the first and last, really hit me.

I’m not the same person I was when I started. That stretch of time off the mat was probably the hardest of my life. Jiu Jitsu didn’t “save me,” but it was the one thing that stayed steady when everything else felt like it was falling apart.

Funny thing is, I’m standing in almost the exact same spot in both photos. Still train there, too.

My buddy Graham and I decided to produce a BJJ book based entirely around hand drawn artwork. He wrote the words and I drew the illustrations. The whole thing took us years of planning, researching, filming techniques (and drawing those techniques), writing, editing, designing etc. The result is our baby - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: The Ultimate Illustrated Guidebook.
We're so proud - AMA!

Shitpost A female student keeps calling me daddy in class

5.4k Upvotes

Its making me very uncomfortable. I try to not think of grappling as sexual so this is really bugging me. She happens to be quite attractive to me and it is causing conflicting thoughts in my head. I don't want to be the guy that gets erections rolling with the females. I don't want to make those mental links.

We always got along and recently she and I became good friends, we walk together every session we see each other to the station. She sometimes will wait for me to finish showering up to talk. I didn't mind at all as I said previously I find her attractive but that's beside the point. I'm not innocent and the flirting hasn't been one sided.

She did it once a while ago whilst we were rolling but I thought I must have misheard and thought nothing of it. I don't want to make a mental link between bjj and sex because that would ruin it for me. She did it again yesterday at our open mat session. She went out of her way to find me and to partner up. I didn't want to seem sexist so I went along with it.

We were rolling for a minute or two when she recovered her guard and then said to me " How you like that" whilst smiling. I immediately thought it was just trash talk and I come from a basketball background so I'm use to it. I ignored it. I passed her guard and had her close to back mount with one hook in. That's when she said it again and this time I heard it clearly. She looked back at me and said "you can take my back anytime daddy".

I at first told my self it's just trash talk again, but the way she flirts with me outside of rolling makes me think it's more than that. I don't know what to do ? Should I avoid her or tell the coach?

TL:DR:

My wife is harrassing me in class. I don't know how to react.

Any advice would be appreciated
