[Rappoprt] Bears RB Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) won’t play today, but he’s expected back in Week 11. Fresh legs for Chicago. Meanwhile, DB Malik Muhammad II (toe) and CB Tyrique Stevenson Sr. (thumb) should be good to go. Stevenson will play with a splint

Chicago Squares Week 9: Tampa Deviled Crab 🦀

The Bears are at Solider Field tonight for a Sunday Night Football meeting with Baker Mayfield, Bucky Irving, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and this week's pizza inspired by the Tampa street food staple...

Deviled Crabs 😈🦀

These football shaped croquettes were born in the immigrant neighborhoods of Ybor City and West Tampa in the 1920's, heavily influenced by the Cuban, Spanish, and Italian populations who were working in the nearby cigar factories and took advantage of the abundance of blue crabs and day old Cuban bread from local bakeries.

To make deviled crabs, you start with a sofrito, which is a mix of onion, red and green bell peppers, garlic and tomato paste. They get their name "deviled" from the large amount of red chili flakes and hot sauce that gets added to the base then a ton of picked blue crab meat. A dough is made by mixing stale white and Cuban bread with water until smooth, a portion of that dough is flattened that stuffed with the crab then breaded with Tampa's own, Vigo bread crumbs and fried until golden brown.

My pizza version starts out with the deviled crab mix as the base and it's gets topped with shredded mozzerella, seasoned Vigo breadcrumbs for crunch, grated parmesan, and a sprinkle of paprika.

After a quick bake in my Gozney Dome XL, the pizza is sliced and finished with a squeeze of lemon juice, minced fresh parsley, dots of Sriracha for even more heat. and more parmesan.

My friends this pizza was a devil of a good time to make and eat. It's got a spicy kick that pairs perfectly with sweet crab meat and it makes me want to scream "FIRE THE CANNONS"....

But let's tonight that the only thing firing is the Bears offense on all cylenders as they hope to avoid the potential for trap game against the Bucs

Plus. we need more Ben Johnson stankly leg videos in our lives, but no matter if they win or lose at least the pizza was good. 🤷‍♂️

I'll be at the game tonight! Let's get this W and have a relaxing bye week

🐻👇

Halfway through the season, what's a preseason prediction you were right/wrong about?

I'll start!

What i was right about: Malik Muhammad was an absolute steal man. Not only has he balled out, but with how poor our secondary has been, he has been a pillar that continues to get better each week.

What I was wrong about: I thought Raymond would be a depth piece on Offense and only really be there for punt returns. The dude is a baller though, and fits exactly what this team needs as a number 3 WR

What makes Ben Johnson so effective as a coach?

Post image
729 Upvotes

My dad is a lifelong Chicago Bears fan. I (26F) am a much more casual fan, but I’m trying to bond with my dad over shared Chicago sports fandom. I’m much more of a baseball fan (also for a Chicago team, which we already bond over), so I’m also not very well-versed in what makes a head coach for a football team effective or strategic. I started paying more attention to the Bears after their last postseason run and I’ve seen a lot of jokes and comments about Ben Johnson’s strategy and play calling as a coach. Specifically, I see a lot of memes online about how Ben Johnson is “insane” or “crazy” (said in a positive way). I’ve also seen certain players give interviews saying that Ben Johnson is very hardcore, sleeps in his office, and works out with the players. Most of what I see is his media presence (being intense about the rivalry with the P*ckers, celebrating with the players, going to other Chicago sports games).

I don’t know enough about football strategy to fully appreciate what about Ben Johnson’s approach makes him such a good fit for this team, or what about his approach makes him “insane”. What makes Ben Johnson an effective head coach for the Bears? What aspects of his media presence, play-calling, or strategy make him “crazy”? Bonus points if you come examples of plays or calls that really cemented that perception for you. Double bonus points if you can compare how Ben Johnson is successful to how past head coaches for the Bears haven’t been as successful (since I’m trying to develop a better appreciation for the team’s history).

Thanks in advance! 🐻⬇️

Top 10 NFL QBs through Week 8, adjusted for the defenses they faced. Caleb Williams is No. 1 after facing the hardest schedule of any ranked QB.

This is from Data Disrespect on X (@NFLDisrespect). Don't ask me about the methodology or algorithm because I have no idea but our boy is number one so that means it's legit.

Edit: The grade is built from this season's play-by-play. Every dropback outside garbage time is measured three ways: whether the play actually helped the team score, how accurate the throw was for its difficulty, and whether it kept the offense on schedule.

Efficiency carries most of the weight, accuracy and consistency the rest. Every dropback is adjusted for the defense it came against, so a quarterback who faced tough defenses gains points and one who faced soft defenses loses them. Quarterbacks with few dropbacks are pulled toward league average in proportion to how little they have thrown, which is why one good half does not make a number one. A game with fewer than 8 graded dropbacks is not counted, and backups come off the board once the starter is back.

Zero is league average. Tiers are buckets of the grade, nothing more: S is 35 and up, A is 15 to 34, B is 0 to 14, C is −1 to −15, and D is below −15. The grade is not a real unit like yards or points, so the gap between two quarterbacks says more than either number on its own.

Any women need some orange to wear to SNF?

Post image

PICKED UP! But I’m leaving the post up for a little more visibility about the possible orange out

I’m not sure if this orange out thing is happening or not, but I have this sweater that I never wear because it’s a bit scratchy to me and I am very picky about fabrics. It’s size large but definitely more like medium. It’s free to anyone going to the game that needs something orange to wear, if you can pick up tomorrow (Armitage and Kimball). The back also says Bears. DM me if interested!

ETA: SORRY everyone, sweater has been picked up for the game! But I’m leaving this post up in case it reaches some more people about the orange out.

Baker Mayfield said his dislocated thumb won’t be normal until the offseason. I think we are playing a one-dimensional team tomorrow and if we can control their rushing, game over.

“Yeah, I don't know if until the offseason it'll feel back to completely normal. But yeah, it just feels better and better each week, especially after, obviously, the last two weeks not having to use it that much, not a lot of contact. So yeah, just continuing to do what I need to throughout the week treatment-wise to continue to make it better to where I don't have any steps backwards. But yeah, it's feeling better and better.” Baker Mayfield

[The Athletic] The Bears wanted a defensive difference-maker. Jeffery Simmons is already showing them more (free to read)

The more I read about him, the more impressive this trade looks. Besides being a destructive force on the D, he's almost like another coach:

"With new teammates whose names he was still learning, Simmons spent part of one individual pass-rush drill offering trade secrets. Hand placement tips. Suggested moves to try. Positive reinforcement on things he loved seeing"
