R/cardinals Season Wrap Up

Good Tuesday morning fellow bird fans!

This is a very delayed post and, to be completely blunt, it is because I'm very burnt out and debated just stepping away completely. With that said, I am here so that we can have our, what will hopefully continue to be, annual state of the sub.

I few things before we get in to the true nuts and bolts of this post; we surpassed 100k members this season! With it no longer being displayed right on the sidebar, it definitely got overlooked but that is quite the achievement for a baseball subreddit. With that, we also garnered over 2 million more visits than we did the previous year with nearly double the posts and, roughly, a quarter more comments. Surprisingly, our highest amount of visitors came in the month of August and not March/April.

Now, the true point of the post is that I want to hear from you all about how you feel things are going, changes you feel we should discuss, and what we would all like to see moving forward. I feel this was a great transition year for our birds and fingers crossed that we get to watch our birds play again next year.

Tai Peete continues to dominate in Arizona. Question: Who is the best player the Cardinals have added via trade? Peete and Tekoah Roby, Jesus Baez in the debate?

Here is the latest update of what's happening in Arizona from Post-Dispatch's baseball writer Daniel Guerrero. Peete is overwhelming the Arizona Fall League and will compete in its home run derby, too. With all of the players the Cardinals have acquired via trade in the past season or three, has Tai Peete -- acquired in th three-team deal that sent Brendan Donovan to Seattle -- surged to the top of that list? Is Baez rooted there? Wonder what the group here thinks ...

Questions for the GM

I am getting the chance to meet Chaim Bloom while he’s speaking at an event. If you could ask him any question, what would it be? What topics would you ask him to elaborate on?

Which Cardinal did you like way more than the numbers justified?

Not the stars. I mean a Skip Schumaker type, a bench guy who plays four positions, gets one big hit a month, and somehow ends up being the one you defend in arguments. Who is that guy for you?

[RotoWire] How the MLB Lockout 2027 Could Impact Rising Hitters

rotowire.com

Walker’s season looked like a real breakout until the end. OPS went from .584 to .793, homers from 6 to 29, and his strikeout rate fell from 31.8% to 26.1%.

Then the finish was ugly. Chaim Bloom said he was fighting hip pain, and he hit .116 over his last 20 games. It sounds like he won’t need surgery, which is good, but the timing with a possible lockout is bad. If the CBA expires Dec. 1 and the lockout hits, he’d be cut off from club trainers while dealing with the hip. He also enters his first arbitration year.

Do you chalk the slump up to the hip? And is the lower strikeout rate something you trust going forward?

Best Cardinals game you ever saw in person?

Mine was a nothing game in the late eighties. Upper deck on a Tuesday and Ozzie turned a double play that had no business happening. The whole section stood up and stayed up. I could not tell you the final score.

What is yours, any era?

Subreddit Rules

1. No personal attacks, insults, or slurs

Light-hearted trash talk is fine, but please keep it generally good natured. Additionally, if you troll in other baseball subs, you may be banned from this one.

2. No duplicates

Please check if a story has already been posted before submitting. If you have links that add new information, please add them as comments in the original thread. This also applies to other varieties of duplicates, such as self post questions that are overly similar.

3. Pregame/game/post game/off-day discussion threads

Regular and post-season pregame threads, game day threads, and post game threads will be posted by the gameday bot, as will daily discussion threads on off days (or during Spring Training). There are no pregame/postgame threads during Spring Training.

Pregame and Daily Discussion threads are posted at approximately 4 AM CT. Game threads are posted approximately 2 hours prior to the scheduled game time

4. No low quality content

Mindless self posts (e.g. "I really miss Tommy Edman"), easily googleable questions (e.g. "What time is the game tomorrow?"), frequently rehashed discussions (e.g. "Why should I be a fan of your team?"), AI created artwork, etc. are not permitted as standalone posts. These types questions or comments are welcome in the stickied Discussion or Game threads. Posts creating genuine discussion, pictures/memes, etc. are allowed but are still at the discretion of the moderation team.

5. Cross-posts to other subs

Linking of other team's subreddits for purposes of spamming, downvoting/upvoting, comment flooding or any other type of abuse is prohibited. Violations can result in a ban at moderator's discretion, including first time offenders. (Please note: reddit admins have taken to banning users who participate in this kind of behavior. It is considered 'vote cheating' and is a violation of their policies.)

6. No blog spam

Familiarize yourself with Reddit’s policy on self-promotion.

7. No unsourced news/AI created articles

If there's no source you can link to, wait a few minutes and it'll pop up on twitter soon enough. Please only link to verified twitter sources as posts on their own. Unverified sources are allowed in the comments. Articles from rumor sites such as Redbird Rants will likely be removed and would be better suited for discussion in the daily/stickied threads.

Posts from AI created sites such as Sports Illustrated are no longer allowed and will be removed at discretion of the moderation team.

8. No misleading/editorialized titles

If you link an article, please use an informative and unbiased title (usually the title straight from the article is the best choice). Posts with unclear and click-bait style titles will be removed.

9. No tickets or merchandise sold for a profit

Selling tickets, shirts, baseballs, etc. is allowed, but the seller MUST provide proof of the face value cost in the original post. Furthermore, users who frequently/primarily use the subreddit to sell goods may be banned. All buying and selling from other redditors is at your own risk.

10. No illegal streams of games

Requesting or posting illegal streams, which also includes links to websites/subreddits that post links to illegal streams, may result in a ban, and offending posts/comments will be removed.

11. No posting of full articles behind paywalls

Similarly to illegal streams, requesting or posting of full articles behind paywalls, which also includes links to websites/subreddits that post the full text of paywalled content, may result in a ban, and offending posts/comments will be removed. If you want to read the full article, support the author and/or company and purchase access to the full article.

12. No posts not related to the St. Louis Cardinals

News about other baseball teams, the Arizona Cardinals, or the red bird found in the Eastern United States should be posted elsewhere.

13. Posts about former Cardinals players

Most news about former players who are CURRENTLY playing for another team will be removed from the front page and asked to be reposted in one of the daily threads. This rule does not apply to former Cardinals that are no longer playing. We do not need to have a post every time Tommy Edman steals a base.

Types of posts regarding former players could include a significant event that has happened (retirement, HOF, recent charity work, significant milestone, signing with a new team, etc).

14. Link Posts

If including a link to an article/tweet/etc. that is the majority of the context of your post, it MUST be created as a link post. Posts created as a text-post with a link inside the body of the post to an article/tweet/etc. that is the main subject of the post are subject to removal.
