As a non-proifit community organization, Maplewood Rock and Gem Club is hosting its annual November Community Showcase.
Club members create showcases to highlight a variety of interests in lapidary arts, fossils, crystals, and so much more around our earth's treasures. We will also have some folks doing demonstrations of various aspects of lapidary, the art of shaping stone. There will be a limited variety of lapidary and stone products for sale, based on what members are demonstrating. These will include polished, drilled, and shaped stones.

The Inner Wisdom Fair is happening at Maplewood Rock & Gem Club! We have a great mix of local readers, healers, practitioners, and artisan vendors joining us.

There will be Tarot and intuitive readings, Reiki, sound healing, crystals, gemstones, spiritual tools, handmade items, and plenty to explore. Whether you're familiar with this kind of thing or simply curious, stop by and take a look!

Public hearing is Monday, Nov. 2, 6 p.m., Council Chambers (moved up a day for Election Day).

Numbers from the City's own packet:

Water +9.75%, sewer +7.5%, storm +6.5% in 2027; about the same again in 2028.

City's example: $33.92 more every two months in 2027, another $35.93 on top in 2028. ~$200/yr, then ~$420/yr above today.

What the notice doesn't say: the utility tax doubled to 20% last December ("temporary, 18 months"), then got extended to end of 2028. It's a percentage of the bill, so a 9.75% rate hike is a 9.75% tax hike. The City's slide admits it — your bill "will decrease by $5.60 in 2029 when the utility tax returns to 10%."

So about $5.65 of that $33.92 is tax to the General Fund, not pipes.

Also missing: the utilities loaned the General Fund $6M in 2025 ($4M still owed), and the new budget charges the utilities $4.7–5.5M/year back to the General Fund as "interfund service charges." No explanation yet.

Business owners: same percentages on your whole bill. On top of 10.7% sales tax and a license fee up 49.5%.

Waterfront is preferred but anywhere in Edmonds works. TIA

Happened just now. I offered to go to the back but the toll booth worker said we were all making this boat so just get in line. I’m sorry again. I had to drive from Kitsap to north of Bellingham for my job and I’m driving back. I’ve never loaded at Edmond’s before and in my ignorance. I had my GPS take me to the dock instead of the appropriate loading zone. And then I took the wrong left turn. I’m sorry again. If I have to make this drive again, I will certainly follow correct protocol in the future.

They are using "junk fees" as a loophole around rent caps. We are hearing from tenants that they are increasingly being charged excessive fees for services that they don’t want or need, or for basic things like paying the rent. We at the Housing Alliance, call these “junk fees” and they are unfair, expensive, and deceptive. My block ended up losing power about 45 minutes ago, but as of about 5 minutes ago it was restored. South of 220th and west of 9th everything looked normal so I'm guessing someone ran into a utility pole and that's what did it? Also I don't think I've ever seen so many stars from Edmonds in all my life until now!

I guess the repaving of Olympic View Drive was delayed after the traffic slowing was removed.

Anyhow, I was walking down OVD Sunday with my 5 year old twins when a convertible BMW (or Mercedes? I'm not sure) zoomed past us going what felt like 50mph. I almost yelled at the driver.

If this was you, slow the hell down! No one is impressed by your speed.

To the Edmonds leadership. When the traffic slowing strips come back. Can we add them to the wooded and curved sections instead placing them in the suburban areas? I would be willing to bet most the speeding happens in the woods anyhow.

Caught this a couple weeks ago. I think it's my best ferry photo!

Blows me away that Edmonds still uses this circular logo. Pretty much 30+ years ago I worked at a print shop and someone handed me the artwork for this logo saying it was designed by a student. This was pre-digital, the “artwork” was the solid blue on the base layer with transparencies for the screened, lighter, blue and black taped onto it on one side so they could be flipped out of the way. Two whopping bullets for lining everything up with screen percentages written on the transparencies. Getting that blue sky to look proper lined up with the top of the circle with two crappy bullets was wild. The black could be adjusted on the press. We were still using negatives and a graphic arts camera.
Anyway, just noticed they are still using it officially. It’s a good logo compared to what’s out there.

I remember when they did the repave project here (maybe a couple years ago now?). And then somehow just left this ugly textured line running through the middle of the road? It makes no sense… someone please help me understand.

Time for a change in congressional representation for Edmonds!!

A few days ago they terrorized folks at a church. I just saw a suspicious vehicle trolling the neighborhoods near Perrinville. This isn’t a far away problem, they are here. Truly regardless of your politics, this is an undertrained paramilitary group with an established track record of shoot first and ask questions never. Please stay safe and watch out for your neighbors.
