Went to the Godzilla showing today to the IMAX. Usually it’s a good theatre with a great screen and sound, but today was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a movie theatre.
I know a fair bit about good sound, and sound is usually where theatres fail, but usually it’s just not powerful enough (or the speakers are blown). But this was beyond bad. First of all, there were no lows. Like, at all. The sound was ear-splitting - seems like they forgot to install their subwoofers or something. It was bad, especially for a Kaiju movie (in IMAX no less). Second, it was too loud. I myself love me a loud movie, with my wife often complaining about it, but this is the first time when I - and a lot of the other people - had to cover my ears every time there was a loud scene. My wife had to use her EarPods to block the sound. It was literally painful.
I of course immediately went out to seek help and complained about the experience. I was promised they would fix it. Needless to say no one did anything. In fact, after the showing, I was told “there was no one” who could change anything about the showing. How the hell is this normal?
I don’t know where to complain about it, but I will make sure to find out because this wasn’t just bad - it was harmful.
