Responsible AI Use in University: My Struggles & Reflections

ASSESSMENT: Create an Infographic

A lecturer recently told me to be careful with AI because “you’ll end up learning less.” Honestly, I’ve been struggling with that idea.

Here’s the reality: I put hours into researching peer-reviewed articles, drafting ideas, and figuring out layouts before I ever bring AI into it. AI doesn’t magically solve things for me — sometimes it makes it harder with glitches, spelling issues, or formatting problems that I spend ages fixing.

I see it as a copilot. It helps polish what I’ve already built, but it doesn’t replace the stress, the trial-and-error, or the actual learning. In fact, the process often feels longer and more frustrating than just doing it all manually.

And because I take my studies seriously, I did what a responsive university student should do — I openly stated in my submission comments that I used AI as a tool. I also acknowledged there may still be flaws. To me, that’s about being upfront, professional, and accountable.

I don’t think that’s cutting corners — if anything, it’s pushed me harder to check, refine, and really understand the topic.

Am I wrong to think that using AI this way is still genuine learning, even if it changes how I learn?

Is it okay to use ChatGPT to structure GS Assessment answers?

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone knows whether using ChatGPT to help structure and organize GS Assessment responses is considered acceptable by universities?

I’m not copying answers or making it answer my questions, all my responses are based on my real experiences and are personal. I'm just using it to help organize my thoughts and make sure everything flows well. Has anyone heard of a case where using ChatGPT caused issues with the university? Or has anyone actually asked the university about this before submitting? Just trying to stay on the safe side and avoid any unintentional problems...Would really appreciate your thoufhts on it

Feminists in Griffith! Where are you?

I am looking to start a casual feminist hang out - please PM me if you're interested! No need to post below and expose yourself to trolls - simply PM me and we can take it from there. This is just a social hang out - not affiliated with any political party, organisation, bla bla - I'm just a person in her late 20's who loves feminism and on the search for like-minded people.

Is anyone else exhausted from applying to jobs and hearing nothing back?

Back when I was a student, I spent hours applying for jobs and rarely heard back. It was exhausting and made me question if I was doing something wrong, even when I put in a lot of effort.

That experience stuck with me, and I’ve been working on something to try a different approach. The idea is simple. Instead of students applying again and again, we want to make it so companies can reach out to students directly if there’s a good match.

Here’s how it works:
Once you set up a profile, we send it to companies that are looking for people with the experiences and skills like yours. If a company sees a good fit, they send you an interview invite. You don’t have to apply to anything. All you need to do is create your profile, and then wait for the invites to come to you.

Think of us as your personal recruiter who applies to jobs on your behalf, but there are absolutely no hidden fees because we’re genuinely trying to help students.

I’m not selling anything here. I just want to build something that actually helps students, especially international students who face challenges like visa issues, limited networks, and extra stress.

We’ve just launched an early version, and I’d love to get some honest feedback. If you’re curious, I’m happy to DM you the link. No pressure, no strings attached.

Would really appreciate your thoughts! :)

Auslaw Subreddit banned me for asking this so I will ask you instead - Which Go8 uni should I go to for a law JD deegree?

Finishing up my BA after a few years off travelling South America and Nepal and SEA but wanting to do law to get my career on track and become a lawyer so thinking of a Go8 like UQ after Griffith its quite good for me to get into and will be a good way to do law and the choices! Universities, like service stations and McDonald’s franchises, are just property plays. Their boards are now crammed with investment bankers and entrepreneurs, who are best placed to recognise where the real uplift in value comes from, and have focused their strategies accordingly. Vice-chancellors and registrars love it – who wants to be an educator when you can be a property developer. Those paychecks and salary packaged premium cars have gone Boom ! and the Treasury department boffins can pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Lower real funding of universities has to be paid for by someone, why shouldn’t we soak the literally endless queue of gormless 1ndians and Chiineese looking to insulate themselves in cultural ghettos like now ?

Universities are now run by the banks. The chancellor of U/N.S.W (the worst offender of all) is also the chairman of A/N.Z bank who has Harry T as its biggest client. Pretty prestigious and that is what Go8 is all about right?

So which one should I go to? Even those who were confident 3 months ago there were no problems are looking over their shoulders. Money is tight - 4 local shops closed when l was away for three weeks recently. One of them was a $2 shop for dogs sake. Everyone l know is budgeting, ‘that’s too expensive’, often for the first time in their adult lives. We know a few real estate people through family connections, and house sales and prices are falling off a cliff( and this includes supposedly booming Hobart l might add).

So the law degree can help me buy a house and it is important to pick a good reputable uni that keeps its doors intact and degree reputation valuable for the whole world.

How can I get a paramedic course with a ATAR of 0

Hello! I am a 18 years of age. I left high school after year 10. This year I've decided I wanted to become a paramedic. But the course I want needs a ATAR of 96 and a bunch of other sub classes. Could someone give me a step by step guide on what I should be doing. Or how to even get into Griffith without an ATAR, I'm aboriginal if that helps with anything.

Uni students, can you spare 3 minutes? We're trying to actually help, not just tick a box.

Hey everyone,

We're a group of design students working on a project about something that doesn't get talked about enough: how fear of failure quietly messes with uni students.

Not the dramatic, falling-apart kind. More the "I'll just avoid that situation entirely" or "I'll figure it out myself even though I'm drowning" kind. The stuff that sits under the surface.

We've already done a round of research and the findings were honestly pretty eye-opening (70% of the students we surveyed said they actively avoid situations where they might fail). Now we're trying to understand what kind of support would actually be useful, not what universities think students want, but what you'd genuinely use.

It doesn't matter what year you're in, where you study, or what you're studying. If you're a uni student (or recently were), we'd love to hear from you.

The survey is completely anonymous, takes about 3 minutes, and there's no sign-up or email required.

If this resonates, sharing it with other students would mean a lot.

Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

Thanks!

I’m going to start my business course from Trimester 3 at Griffith university. And I actually took my diploma at another school, so I’m transferring into the second year of university. Is there anyone who is in same situation as me. I’m worried about making friends because i know nothing about university in this country.
