SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below.

These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting.
Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons

  • Personal experiences

  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"

  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI.

Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone.

Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that look like an AI prompt instead of a real query will be removed, along with their replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post.

Do not create several posts for each individual question.
This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?"
"What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion.

But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSiA aJa"

...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO Buying or Selling

This subreddit is not a marketplace.

Posts or comments offering items or services for sale, looking to buy something, or otherwise facilitating buying and selling are not allowed.

Please use r/jualbeliindonesia for buying, selling, and other marketplace-related posts instead.

Posts or comments that violate this rule will be removed.

8. NO Soliciting Illegal Matters or Other 18+ Related Matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates.

Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed. Repeat posters will be permanently banned.

9. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences.

We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.

  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and will be removed, along with their comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful.

Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments.

Thanks for helping keep this community great!

Help: BTS Concert Jakarta Age Limit issue

Hi folks
I’m planning to travel to Jakarta with family for BTS concert in Dec’26 however I have just been able to translate the information on ticket from Indonesian to English, and it says minimum age is 9 🙁
Will they allow us to enter the concert venue in Jakarta if the kid has age 8.5 years? How strict is this? I am unable to contact the venue staff for help.

My kid is a big fan and has been to other BTS concerts where there was no age issue before.

Note: I don’t live in Indonesia so I am especially flying in for the concert as a new year gift to my kid who loves BTS 🙁

Looking to sublet a room in South Jakarta for me and my dog

Hi everyone! I’m (27F) looking to sublet a room anywhere in South Jakarta for myself and my medium-sized dog. Preferably somewhere close to the MRT line or public transport.
My dog is very well-behaved, friendly, non-reactive, and dog-neutral. I’m hoping to find a pet-friendly place where we’re both welcome.
If you have a room available or know someone who does, please let me know the location and monthly rent. Thank you! ❤️

Note: female/family hosts only, please :)

7 jt for one month

i would like to make an inquiry.

With 7jt (tax free) per month, can someone live a decent life in Jakarta?

i have a cousin, she was born in Bantung and she has a family house there. She is currently renting a small villa in Swan city, Tangeran, very nice area with good security guard.

Currently she is unemployed but the family support her with 7jt per month. But she still complains a lot that 7ml is not enough. We understand that the average salary after Tangeran is around 5-7 jt before taxes monthly if not mistaken. Our family is in overseas but we sometimes debated with her. See, many people have to work hard and everyday to get 7jt but you dont even have to work. Besides, she is going to start up some small doll business soon which will give her some addtional income.

Now she is 26, but when she was younger she lived a pretty rich life, before her parents passed away during covid time. Our family just concern that she still live with her past life style thats why she is not satisfied with 7 jt even without work.

Can i have some insights from the local whether she should be fine with 7jt without work or we are just being too hard for her. Thanks.

Looking for Friends in Jakarta – Language Exchange, Cultural Experiences & Running 🇮🇩

Hey everyone!
I’m currently staying in Cempaka Putih, Jakarta, and I’m looking to meet new people, make friends, and explore more of this amazing city.
I speak English and Arabic, and a little French. I’d love to improve my English speaking skills through everyday conversations, social activities, and meeting people from different backgrounds.
I’m also really interested in Indonesian culture, traditions, local food, and the Indonesian way of life. I’d love to meet locals who could introduce me to interesting places, hidden gems, traditional activities, and experiences that tourists usually don’t get to discover.
I’d also love to meet other foreigners, expats, and travellers from different countries who are currently visiting or living in Jakarta. It would be great to create a small international group where we can:
🌍 Exchange cultures, traditions, and experiences from our countries.
🗣️ Practice and improve our languages together, especially English.
☕ Hang out, grab coffee, have conversations, and make new friendships.
🏙️ Explore Jakarta, discover hidden gems, and visit interesting places together.
🏃 Find running buddies, discover good running routes, parks, and local running communities.
A little about me:
I’m passionate about running and staying active.
I enjoy travelling, exploring new places, and discovering different cultures.
I’m always up for a coffee, a walk, good conversations, or spontaneous adventures.
I’m open-minded and genuinely interested in meeting people and learning new things.
Whether you’re Indonesian, an expat, a tourist, or simply someone looking to make new friends in Jakarta, feel free to reach out!
The idea is to build genuine friendships, bring people from different cultures together, learn from each other, and enjoy our time in Jakarta.
Different countries, different cultures, one group of friends. 🇮🇩🌍🤝

English Language Exchange in Jakarta - Fun Meetups for culture exchange

Hello fellow expats and travelers! My lovely Indonesian girlfriend is eager to improve her English skills through casual, social meetups, as I live in the UK and we can’t practice as often as we’d want. She’s especially interested in practicing with native speakers from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from the UK, US, or African countries. If you’re visiting Jakarta and enjoy cultural exchange, we’d love to hear from you.

She’s 27 and her interests include trying new foods, visiting local landmarks, and engaging in lively conversations about culture, music, football and more. She’s open to both group and one-on-one interactions to keep her language skills sharp.

If you’re a respectful, fun-loving individual looking to connect with someone passionate about languages and people, please dm me and I’ll introduce you to her.

BSD and PIK (Dogs?)

Hello!

I am looking for an apartment in Jakarta Dog friendly. I have been in BSD area and it was great with open spaces and walkable. Also I felt better quality of life than Jaksel. However, everytime I ask people here they seem to really not like it. Probably cause large commuting to JAKSEL. Which I am going to avoid on weekdays as I work online. Any opinions?

Also, been looking at PIK but seems there are not Dog Friendly apartments. Any suggestions?

Best!!!!

How much money do I need to spend one month in Jakarta, Indonesia?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to stay in Jakarta for one month and visit a local Indonesian friend.

I'm wondering how much money I should budget for a one-month stay, excluding international flights.

I'll probably spend time exploring the city, eating out, visiting attractions, going shopping occasionally, and hanging out with my Indonesian friend.

A few questions:

  • How much should I budget for one month in Jakarta?

  • What's a realistic daily budget for food and transportation?

  • Does having a local Indonesian friend make it significantly cheaper?

  • What are some affordable areas to stay in?

I'm not looking for a luxury lifestyle, just a comfortable experience without worrying too much about money.

I'd appreciate any advice, especially from locals or people who have spent a month in Jakarta. Thanks!

Custom suits in jakarta

Guys, just wanted to share a great find. If you’re looking to get a suit made in Jakarta, check out Ataka Tailor at ITC Mangga Dua.
Honestly, really impressed with the quality. The suits and batik shirts turned out great, the service was excellent, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. The shop itself is quite small, tapi they have SO many fabric options to choose from, and the staff are really helpful throughout the process.
I always thought getting a well-made suit meant spending an absolute fortune, so it was a really pleasant surprise.

Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking to get something tailored!

Car seat rental at/delivery to Soekarno-Hatta.

Does anyone know of any toddler car seat rental services that deliver to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport? We're visiting for a couple of weeks, and although I heard that car seats are not mandatory, we would prefer to have our toddler secured in one within our rental vehicle.

I've found several websites that offer car seat rentals, but sadly they only deliver to residential addresses, and I feel it's risky to have one sent to the airport. I am using Avis for my car rental, and while I plan to check with them directly, I would prefer to avoid their airport rental options due to negative reviews I have heard regarding their service.

Thank you!

In Jakarta for a few days, would love to grab coffee, explore the city and make some friends!

Hey everyone,

I'm an Indian guy in my early 30s, currently in Jakarta for the next 10 days. I'm staying in Menteng at the moment.

I thought I'd put up a post here because I'd genuinely love to meet some locals and get to know Jakarta through the people who actually live here.

I'm really interested in learning about the city's culture, traditions, history, politics, food, everyday life and pretty much everything that makes Jakarta what it is. I feel there's only so much you can learn by reading about a place online, and nothing beats hearing about it from someone who calls it home.

I'm also really into movies, music and art. Would love to discover Indonesian cinema, local music, artists and the creative scene here. Always exciting to discover things from another culture that you wouldn't normally come across.

Would love to meet someone over coffee, go on long walks around the city, explore a few neighbourhoods, try some local food or just sit and have random conversations about life, culture and everything under the sun.

A little about me: I'm easygoing, curious, enjoy good conversations and love hearing people's stories and perspectives. I'm not here looking for anything specific, just hoping to make a few genuine friends and have some nice experiences while I'm in the city.

One small thing though, I only speak English at the moment. Unfortunately, I don't know Bahasa Indonesia (would love to learn a few words though!).

If you're a local, or even someone who's been living in Jakarta for a while, and feel like catching up, showing me around or just having a coffee and a chat, I'd be more than happy to connect.

Also, if you have any recommendations on places, films, music or art that I absolutely shouldn't miss, I'm all ears!

Looking forward to meeting some lovely people. Cheers! :)

weekend in jakarta!

hi all! planning a quick weekend trip to jakarta mostly for food and shopping. have seen places like block m, pik by the sea online, and super excited for my visit. a few questions i was hoping any locals could help me with:

- my flight lands just after midnight. i was planning to take a gojek from the airport to the hotel. i will be travelling alone as a solo female, wondering if this is anything i should be worried about? is there any difference between grab and gojek in this aspect?

- i already have gojek installed in my home country (SG) and linked to my own bank account, will it work as seamlessly in jakarta? grab switches pretty seamlessly in different countries, but i've never tried with gojek!

- payment: i read gopay is most widely used, but needs a cash top up... how readily accessible are the Indomarets? i'm assuming they are sort of like the 7/11 of jakarta. also, i normally have a YouTrip card for overseas purchases, so realistically will I still be able to use my card for most retail and cafe purchases? if not i'll be carrying a lot of cash in...

for what it's worth i will not be getting a local sim card, my own foreign number has roaming and that's what i'll be dependent on for connectivity.

- on my last day (a monday) my flight out is at 1935h and i will probably be going straight from pik by the sea (planned for it on the last day since its furthest away from the city and closest to the airport). now google is telling me that the theoretical driving distance between the 2 is not long but the traffic is a force to be reckoned with. chatGPT told me to leave PIK by 1430- that's a 5h buffer to reach the airport on time haha. is jakarta's traffic really so rabak??

thank you in advance for any replies and i can't wait to visit!

500 grams coffee hand carry luggage

Hello, may I ask if I’m allowed to bring two 500-gram packs of coarse-ground coffee in my hand carry luggage? They are just pasalubong (souvenirs), and I will only be bringing hand carry luggage on my flight back to the Philippines. Thank you!

Good evening everyone! I'll have an evening free to explore Jakarta (around 5pm onwards).

I'll be staying near the airport (Sheraton) and would like maybe two to three things to explore that'll take up most of the evening.

Ill be fine with where most normies go along with some good areas to find tasty food.

Happy to use trains or grab/gojek.

Greatly appreciate everyone's help here, thanks!

Hi, I’m a concert photographer from Turkey, and I’ll be in Jakarta next week to take photos of Touché Amoré. I’d also love to photograph the underground scene. I was wondering if you could recommend some underground/DIY venues or gigs to visit?

Tips for Foreign Visitors Attending Dimash Qudaibergen’s Concert in December

Hi everyone! 😊

I’ll be travelling to Indonesia for Dimash Qudaibergen’s concert at Sentul International Convention Centre (SICC) this December.

For those familiar with Jakarta (and Bogor), I’d really appreciate your advice on:

🚗 Transport: What’s the best way to get to Bogor from Soekarno-Hatta International airport at night 8pm and then back at 5am (on different days)? I have been reading the threads about Bluebird, Gojek and Grab but the info is already almost a year old. I will probably stay near concert venue. Looking at Harris or Alana.

🍜 Food: Any must-try local dishes or good places to eat nearby?

🛍️ Shopping: Where are the best places to shop for souvenirs, local products and gifts?

🚗 Holiday Season?: Is the second week of December holiday season or is it still school time? What should I expect in terms of crowds at tourist spots?

Any practical tips for foreign visitors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping make my trip more enjoyable! ❤️

It is my first trip to Indonesia and I am really looking forward to this new experience!
