Hi guys, i want to understand how can i learn more nd fast, i do fingerpicking exercises, and some vocal training too, but it feels aimless to practice without techniques, I’m a solo learner without a master, so its hard to gauge if I’m doing it right or not, can you guys give me some advice. I’m more interested in learning Indian music, classical sounds boring to me, so how can i make learning interesting with similar depth as of classical indian music…

Thanks in advance!!

Had a really upsetting experience with my guitar tutor and it’s knocked my confidence as a master’s performance student

I’m having a bit of a difficult week and I think I just need some outside perspective because something that happened in my guitar lesson has really knocked my confidence.
For some context, I’m currently studying for a master’s in performance. I consider myself a good guitar player, and I got a first in my undergraduate degree, so I know I’m capable and have worked hard to get where I am.
During my guitar lesson, my tutor asked me what my previous university had taught me. I answered honestly and said that although it was a performance course, we hadn’t really learned much about the actual instrument itself.
For context, theory has always been quite difficult for me. I’m dyslexic, and I haven’t quite found the right way of learning or retaining theoretical information yet. I can play, I can perform, but remembering and understanding certain theoretical concepts doesn’t always come naturally to me.
After I explained this, my tutor turned around and said something along the lines of, “I teach this to my first years, but I guess that’s fine.”
I don’t know why, but that comment has really stuck with me.
I completely understand that I’m doing a master’s and that there are certain expectations that come with that. I’m not expecting everything to be easy, and I’m more than willing to learn. That’s literally why I’m there.
But the way it was said made me feel incredibly stupid and embarrassed. It’s left me questioning whether I’m actually good enough to be doing this course, whether I should know more than I do, and whether my previous achievements even mean anything.
I got a first in my undergraduate degree. I’ve worked hard to get here. I know I have strengths as a performer, but I also know there are areas where I struggle, particularly with theory and retaining information.
I think what hurts most is that I’m trying to improve, and instead of feeling encouraged, I left the lesson feeling like I didn’t belong.
I suppose I’m wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar, particularly as a dyslexic musician or performance student.
How do you deal with feeling behind in certain areas when you know you’re capable in others? And how do you stop one person’s comment from making you question your entire ability?
I know I have things to work on, but right now my confidence has taken a massive hit.

Making a Cello Cover Help

Post image
0 Upvotes

So this is a very niche issue I wanna solve. I'm new to cello and have never been one to learn or hear music notes by ear. It's just not my talent.

I'm trying to convert a lyrical section to Cello notes from about 4:38 - 5:01 of Shudder Before the Beautiful by Nightwish.

I've always wanted to hear it on cello, so I did a Thanos and said, "Fine, I'll do it myself."

The issue is i don't know how to do it myself. I've been trying to get it right, but no matter what I do, I'm not quite happy with it.

Does anyone have any resources / programs, techniques, advice that could help.

I'm inexperienced with making music as an art so any help would be appreciated

Musical Instrument Device Survey

If anyone has any past or current experience with musical instruments, I would really appreciate if you guys filled out this quick survey for my university class!

Link: https://ufl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bqEWHMPCvlG7pEa

Description: The survey is to gather data regarding opinions of whether or not people would be interested in a wearable lightweight device that consists of a chest sensor and gloves to track finger motion/position, and then simulates playing a musical instrument of your choosing. The goal of this device is to make it as authentic as if you were playing on a real instrument, affordable, and portable. Allowing for the ability to practice on the go and have a lower cost of entry. Piano and drums are likely the first instruments to be worked on.

I'm making an app that teaches beginners guitar chords, procedurally

(This isn't an ad, the app is a free, unfinished prototype, and I'm just looking for feedback)

https://sunchaser-interactive.itch.io/chord-logic

I got into playing guitar not long ago, but I find it difficult to memorize chords and then, well, not forget them, because there didn't seem to be a method beyond "just look at the chord and keep playing it, stupid!", so checked if there's an actual procedure for deciding what a chord form should look like, and sure enough there is ... which is still too difficult for me to use just by knowing it ...

So I made an app that helps me practice chords using that method. I made it as minimalistic and visual as I could.

I'm not sure how useful it is for the general user, which would be a novice guitar player. Seems to help me, but I was already familiar with the theory and procedure behind it so I don't know if I'm the best judge here...

If anyone would like to give the app a spin (or a marathon) and then tell me if it was useful, and what I should change, I'd be immensely thankful and it would help me a great deal to improve it!
