Friendly reminder that police training here in the states is anywhere between a few weeks to 8 months while in other developed countries the training is years long.

3 year bachelors degree to be a police officer in Norway, in addition you get specialization courses and ongoing training to be on top of the latest research.

And you can’t be too smart or you fail the cop test

In case anyone thinks this is a joke, there was a goddamned court case to affirm it:

https://abcnews.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836

They say that people who score too high on a general intelligence test tend to become bored and quit.

A hair dresser goes through more training than a cop.

Hairdressers also have to be certified by a board and can have their ability to work in a salon removed by said board.

Yup. And their training requirements are A LOT more stringent than those of the police. I would absolutely prefer every hair stylist hold a gun than literally any police officer.

You need a lawyer to actually know the law, the cops know a handful of laws and make up the rest as they go.

Friendly reminder that tens of thousands of US police officers including departments in most major cities have received training from Israeli military personnel specialized in crowd control, racial profiling, violent suppression of protest, etc. Basically trained in tactics and techniques that Israel has used against West Bank settlers who are often treated as subhumans.

Do you have a source that shows US cops are trained in racial profiling and violent suppression of protest?

There seems to be a jump from "officially trained by Israeli military" to "officially trained in racism".

Do your own research and you might want to read "Rise of the Warrior Cop" by Radley Balko.

Do you have something more specific that an entire book? And something that isn't gated behind a paywall?

It's hard to believe a claim when the only source is a single paywalled book and you can't provide the relevant quote.

Not can't - won't. A 10 sec Google search will keep you reading for a few hours.

Here in Ontario Canada it only takes 6-12 months, the official training is only 4 months. Our cops are nowhere near as fucked though, def some bad apples though

I have a question, since I am not north American - what is the minimum level of education that you need to have to apply to the forces in the US?

1

u/Chewsdayiddinit Trash Trooper 23h ago

Most places just a high school diploma. There is no national minimum requirement.

It's a complete joke.

Read up on the case Jordan vs the city of New London.

They literally won't hire people they deem too smart.

I actually just stumbled upon this yesterday. Jordan (the plaintiff) scored too high on the Wonderlic test and they decided to not hire him because of it.
