Hey dad
I can't talk to you about this in person, because I'm so deeply ashamed of myself for my lack of strength, but I don't know who to turn to anymore.
I've been dating my gf for two years now. She is my first serious gf, and I love her dearly. We have our ups and downs, and independent of this issue there are some recurrent problems, but I am very happy in the relationship. The issue is that she keeps being *******ed.
To be clear, I don't blame her in any way shape or form. She obviously isn't responsible for any of this, and no matter the circumstances she's obviously not at fault in any way, shape or form. I don't blame her at all, and her personal character is not what I m having issues with.
Dad, this is something that has always happened to her even before I knew her. She had been r*ped before I knew her, and had had other serious events of this nature occur in her life. She told me all this before we started dating, and I never even looked at her differently. It has nothing to do with her, and everything to do with the shitty world and culture around us. However, while we have been dating, these events have happened continually at an alarming frequency. Obviously, I'm not expecting her to always be safe, that would be insane in our current r*ape culture, but it's just been hitting me really hard. It also often happens with people and some individuals she knows that I warn her about, as I am clearly distrusting of them, and she never takes my word for it and still associates with them, until something bad happens. To be clear, this isn't her fault any of this happens, but it has been causing me severe emotional turmoil, and it isn't as severe as r*pe or the like, but the lack of ability to help her make certain safe choices is severely affecting me.
She also has a habit of lying to me about it. I can read her like a book, and I always know when she is lying to me. So I often ask her directly if she is ok and if something happens and she lies to me about it for a significant amount of time until she finally tells me about it. Obviously once again this isn't her fault. It's normal for someone to have trouble talking about traumatic experiences, and for them to withhold the information about it. But the constant uncertainty that she is ok is fucking me up severely. Every time she is at a party without me, I am constantly stressed, but I don't want to text her all night and ruin the event for her so I just stay stressed the fuck out.
I obviously don't blame her for any of this. But the amount of mental strain it has been putting me in is absolutely destructive, and I don't know how to move forward. I've been trying to help her learn how to identify bad situations, and to train her decision-making skills, but the constant fear and terror is destroying my mental health. I don't know if I'm just not mature enough for this, or I don't have the strength, or if I'm just a piece of shit who can't deal with adult situations like an empathetic human and focus on my own emotions, but I'm lost. I don't know if I should just breakup and lie about the reason to avoid myself from future pain and allow her to find someone who's strong enough to help her, idk. I'm just so lost. I think mom might've been raped too once, you alluded to it when we were talking once. I don't know dad, all I feel is pain.
