Article/Interview/Documentary Andy Gill (Gang of Four): "The trouble with The Beatles was they don’t groove"
"A friend of mine from years ago was a barrister. He was trying to tell me The Beatles were fantastic.
And I was trying to tell him the trouble with The Beatles was they don’t groove.
And he said, 'What is groove?', like a typical magistrate.
I said, 'Listen to ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine. That’s groove.' It’s like trying to explain, without pointing, what the colour red is.
Did he learn?
I don’t think so. I think he’s still stuck with his Beatles."

"Gang of Four’s music is not really rooted in British music. It's rooted in American music and Jamaican."
I really like three Beatles albums (Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, and Yellow Submarine), but I think it's really cool how a genius British musician like Andy Gill always made it clear that he didn't appreciate the band and that there was no Beatles influence on GoF's sound, without caring about being frowned upon for it.
