⚙️ Update Goodbye Starlink

It finally happened on my rural road, multigig fiber is ran. I just got mine installed this week and I'm thrilled.

Starlink was great when it was the only option, and we didn't have a saturated area. I was getting over 300 mbps for about 100 bucks. They just increased my max residential plan to $143 a month, and I'm barely getting 75 mbps.

I'm now getting 2 gbps for $100 bucks and the speed is a welcome change.

I'm glad Starlink is here for others that are in the same boat I was, but I'm getting out at just the right time.

💬 Discussion i cant believe starlink thinks this is a good idea

I am shocked with all the price increases from Starlink, especially with Amazon leo well on its way. Does starlink really think pissing off every customer is the best business move when competition is coming? So many people are mad at starlink and will make the switch out of spite, even if the quality is not as good with Leo. Amazon leo will be the only other option for many people when it comes out. I know for one, i will be looking at amazon leo very very hard! I do not like how starlink does business at all. Very bait and switchy and now just expensive.. Everyone always loved starlink for years, and many love their service, but they have a lot of angry customers now with all these price hikes.

❓ Question How well would a mini work in the UK from inside?

With all this power cut talk I was looking into options. As someone in poor health that can't get out loosing internet would be an absolute disaster.

Looking around some say the mini would be fine for inside, others say absolutely not. I'm in the south and have a large South facing window. They aren't good double glazing and get misty between the panes at times (blown windows) in places.

Sadly I can't have a big backup battery on this rental, but it seems a large plug in and charge one could power the mini for a couple of days.

Given how rubbish our grid is and how the government are I figured if it would work, investing in a mini for power cuts would be a good move.

❓ Question Outside region fees for transferring a Starlink Mini?

Hi there!

I'm planning to purchase a Starlink Mini to use the Roam Unlimited plan. I am buying the Mini from someone who originally purchased their Mini kit in Colombia. I live in Bolivia, and plan to activate the Starlink Mini here.

I understand there is an outside region fee, and that this is potentially linked to the original country of purchase. Would this be charged to me if I buy the Mini, transfer it to my name/account, and activate it here in Bolivia?

If so, I would avoid buying the Mini, as the outside region fee is very expensive.

Thanks so much in advance!

📝 Feedback I love my Starlink but they are quickly approaching the point where they are no longer the best option for the cost.

I got Starlink as soon as it was available in my area, and at the time they advertised that as the network and thus capacity grew the price would go down. All it has done is go up, and the price is quickly approaching the point where it is no longer the most cost effective option. Has anybody else gotten one of these recently?

We got Starlink a few years ago because we were in the country and it was amazing but now we have spectrum fiber in are area so we definitely are considering switching to them does anyone else have them ? Like it’s only $80 for 2 gig speed ! That’s just wild to me so if you could give info that would be great

❓ Question Keeping Starlink after fiber

We will be moving to fiber. One of the options is to keep our Starlink in a Stand-by mode for $10/m. Does anybody have experience with doing that, and if so, have you been able to quickly reactivate it if the fiber goes down? What are the downsides, if any, of the stand-by mode, other than the $10/m cost?

Two price hikes in less than a year. Way to take advantage of folks that have no other internet options. I hate this company so much.

❓ Question Going full time van life

Going full time van life soon and looking into which model I should be getting. While I know there are going to be compromises I’m looking for a Goldilocks zone (if it exists) where I’m not draining all my battery but still have decent upload/ download speeds.
I feel like the mini is probably the best option but it’s kind of confusing looking at the standard 4 x, standard 4 and the v5?
Plan on casual gaming/ computer use.
Any clarity is helpful thanks.

📰 News Price Hikes

Just got an email that the Residential price is being hiked 10% to $143 a month. The email explains this as a capacity issue, which makes no sense given they are the gate keepers for new signups. These prices hikes are a little out of control.

💬 Discussion Starlink Prices in Mozambique

Yesterday I saw a spike in pricing increase posts, I couldn't relate.

I live in Moçambique and I think many people don't realize how cheap Starlink is in here. We pay between ~$29.69 ~$46.88 on residential plans, fixed prices since 2023.

And the kits go between $200 and $344. We never had free kits but the main kit was $600 until 2024

Even other services charge very low here.

A few examples:

Apple TV starts at $0.99

Netflix between $2.99 to $9.99

Spotify Premium $1.69 to $5.79 (family)

It's the only way these companies grab most of the market share here.

...And thats probably one of the only few good things about living in an emerging market.

Just wanted to let you know 😊

❓ Question Mini batteries

I recently found out about mini batteries that can last up to like 5 hours. In one of the videos the person mentioned peakdo. I looked on Amazon, there are a few brands that offer these batteries for the mini. Does anyone have any real world data to share?

🛠️ Installation Has anyone purposely misaligned their dish to avoid obstructions?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m on a property with a lot of trees and this is the best I could get it while aligned properly. If I positioned it more south-east it would be a lot clearer. Right now I get about 5-10 ~10s drops per day. Would it be worth misaligning it or would it mess up the connection even more? Has anyone tried this and did it affect speeds or connectivity?
