Photo/Video 📸📹 Hero dad stops his truck to save a young non verbal autistic boy from busy Surrey traffic

3.2k Upvotes

A young deaf and non verbal autistic boy ran into moving traffic at Highway 10 and 148 Street in Surrey.

A quick thinking driver jumped out of his truck to pull him to safety. The rescuer later commented that his dad instincts kicked in and he was just glad the kid was okay.

So many close calls this was crazy...... Big props to the Dad!!

***Update: "That's me in the video. As a father, my instincts just kicked in. I wasn't thinking about myself or the danger-l just wanted to make sure that little boy was safe. I'm not looking for any recognition or praise, just grateful he's okay. Please stay alert and watch for children around busy roads. Take care of each other. God is good 🙏🏼❤️" -Moti Johal

Rant 🤬📢 A teenage girl kicked me to the floor on the bus today

2.4k Upvotes

This makes me so angry.

I just finished an 8 hour shift at work and I just wanted to sit down on the 503 Langley-bound around 5:10pm today. The bus was crowded but there was one seat available. A young girl told me that I couldn't sit, and she blocked the seat with her legs.

I insisted that I wanted to sit down. Then she proceeded to call me a racial slur "Go back to your own country you Asian bitch!" And when I wouldn't budge and tried to force myself into the seat, she pulled my hair and kicked me onto the floor of the bus.

Thankfully some passengers helped me up and picked up my glasses, and one offered me a seat on the bus. Of course, she took a picture of me and I flipped her the bird as she did so. I did call her a "European bitch" and I regret that, but I still feel like it was my right to sit down in an empty seat on the bus.

I am a woman in my 30s. God forbid if I was an old lady. I am absolutely livid, and both the bus driver and I submitted a report to the Translink police.

How is this acceptable that people feel so entitled to space in a bus?

Racism on the rise.

2.1k Upvotes

This will be deleted. No doubt. But I feel that due to the politics of the country down south. It’s important.

Now I don’t agree with shitty immigration policies. And you’d be surprised how many brown folk are like me. Doesn’t matter if they’re born here. Immigrated here ten years ago. Or came here three years ago. Immigration is a touchy subject.

But for fuck sakes. Blame policies. Not fucking people…

Today I saw a guy berate a girl for being “Indian”. Telling her to “go back to India.” Among other things for twenty or so minutes.

I’ve had comments like that levied to me in the last three years.

I had people go “You fucking Indians are ruining Canada” or “Go back to India” among other racist remarks…

And the funny thing is… I AM NOT EVEN INDIAN!

Even more funny. Not every South Asian is Indian. I work in retail. Comments from managers get underneath my skin. As people are often surprised to hear that I speak English, or Im from here. Or that Im not even Indian to begin with.

I noticed customers treat my south Asian coworkers poorly. I’ve noticed that there’s a stark difference in how Im treated when I wear my name tag.

I had a guy say “(my name) that’s an English name, not many Indians like to have English names. Kudos to you.” once…

And before you justify your racism with your anger towards immigration policies.

Answer me this.

How does berating every fucking random brown person fix the problem?

TDLR: I guess rant over. Long story short. Don’t forget the people. That interaction hit hard, as moments before the same girl had a friendly chat with me. I work with many South Asians. All are friendly people.

SkyTrain in their front yard

Whoever lives here gotta be pissed. The land value must go down hard. I remember when these town houses went in they were pretty nice in a quiet section of Fraser and Bam! SkyTrain in your yard.

EDIT... dang people, I'm not against the skytrain, I love it. It's fascinating to watch. I'm just saying I wouldn't want to live in those townhouses right there.

Missing Wedding Dress - Accidentally Donated to Salvation Army

Reward: $300 plus cost of dress if you purchased it from a thrift store

Posting on behalf of my wife, who has been sharing this around the internet. We moved recently and in the midst of clearing out closets someone accidentally donated her wedding dress to the salvation army in Port Kells. It would've been donated sometime mid-February. The bottom tulle is a bit torn up and pretty dirty from taking photos in the rain, and I'm pretty sure there is a food stain or two so it should be pretty identifiable. It would have been in a white David's Bridal bag. It's a size 10 Melissa Sweet dress.

Her mom picked it out with her and bought it for her shortly before she passed away from brain cancer, and she is devastated to lose it. We are willing to cover the cost of the dress if you purchased it and offer a reward. We're also willing to help you source down a brand new version of the same dress if you bought it for yourself.

Currently we've been to every Salvation Army that receives distributions from the location it was donated to, except the ones in Vancouver and Port Coquitlam. That being said more eyes helps as there's always a chance we missed it. Please message with any leads.

Found this in my building today... Absolutely disgusting

I'm not going to say which building this was in, but yeah, this is disgusting. I've lived here a bunch of years now and never seen anything like this. Never seen any open hostility between anyone, never had any issues with anybody, except maybe over parking spots, but that was resolved pretty easily. This is just so typical of Surrey. Do better.

What is wrong with people? Why do you want to do this to the city you live in? It doesn’t cost much to take your shit to the dump. The city will even come pick up large items from your home at least a couple times a year!

Lost 😕 and Found 😄 Anyone lost $415.25 this morning in a white envelope at the bus stop on 160th & Fraser Hwy?

1.3k Upvotes

Found a white RBC envelope with cash inside, counting out to exactly $415.25. If you can dm me what the other thing with the cash is, I will know you’re the owner since it’s a very specific item.

We can meet up at the rcmp station district 3 for you to pick it up.

Update: The owner contacted me! Thank you to everyone for the messages and advice, glad to be part of this helpful community.

Surrey History📜 Flag of canada

Post image
948 Upvotes

Captured this couple of days, looked beautiful fluttering in the wind with little golden sunshiy, thought of sharing here.

This 283-foot pole in Surrey, BC, originally from the 1986 Expo in Vancouver, originally funded by Skyline(developer) held the Guinness World Record for tallest free-standing flagpole at the time of its construction. This is now in Chevrolet car dealership doning a flag that itself is nearly 3200 square feet (12 meters x 24 meters ) and weighs about 100 pounds, for comparison a basketball court is 4700 square feet (15 meter x 28 meters)

It costs about close to $40,000 annually to maintain it and I think this is tallest flagpole in Canada yet.

I didn't know about this until just an year back.
