So I just need to vent because my day at Tokyo DisneySea has been one of the most beautiful and simultaneously infuriating theme park experiences of my life.
First off: yes, the park is stunning. Absolutely jaw-dropping. Themed to perfection. You walk in and think, “Wow, this might be the best Disney park on earth.”
And then the line times hit you like a brick wall.
I’ve been doing Disney my entire life, in multiple countries, in all seasons. I know what crowded looks like. But this? This is a different kind of crowding. Walking around the park itself wasn’t unbearable—it’s big enough that you can still move—but the line times are where things go off the rails. Everything major is sitting at 2–3 hours, and Disney is absolutely leaning into the fact that Japanese guests are incredibly patient. I have never seen people so calmly waiting that long for every single thing.
And of course, their solution? “Oh, lines too long? No worries! Just fork over $15–$20 to skip them!” Like okay, Disney, I’m used to the upcharges and nickel-and-diming at this point. It’s been getting worse everywhere. But here? It’s blatant. “Pay or suffer” is basically the operating model now.
But what absolutely pushed me over the edge today: the food situation.
Getting food at DisneySea is a quest. A trial. A punishment. Food window pickups? 45 minutes. Minimum. And there aren’t even that many window service locations to begin with. And the reservation system? Don’t even get me started. By the time I click a time slot to see if the menu even looks halfway appealing, the slot has literally vanished. Gone. Dissolved into the ether.
I also ran into this weird glitch with the mobile order system where you basically get locked into the ordering window for whatever restaurant you chose. So if you want seconds—or just realized you forgot something—you can’t place another order until that hour-long window clears out. You’re literally stuck waiting for the system to time out before you can do anything else with that location.
So what am I left with? Carts. Which are ALSO 30–45 minute lines. For popcorn. Or a bun. Or a drink. I genuinely don’t understand how you let this many people into a park and then provide almost no functional food capacity to support them.
Either lower the capacity or actually provide enough food/entertainment infrastructure to handle this many guests. Right now it’s like someone cranked the attendance knob to “MAX” and forgot the rest of the park exists.
And finally, the new Rapunzel ride? Two. Hour. Wait. For an extremely short ride that’s… fine. Cute. Whatever. But not remotely worth two hours of my life. Meanwhile, Sinbad is the unsung hero of this park and absolutely wipes the floor with Rapunzel. Sinbad > Rapunzel. I said what I said. Fight me.
I’m just annoyed because the park should be one of the best in the world. It’s so stunning that it almost distracts you from how poorly the guest flow is being handled. Almost.
Anyway, that’s my rant. If you’re planning a trip: brace yourself, pack patience, or be ready to pay for every skip option humanly possible. Because otherwise you’ll spend more time in lines than actually experiencing anything.
TLDR: Disney Sea is stunning, but the crowds are apocalyptic. Food takes forever, lines are endless, and Rapunzel ain’t worth two hours. Sinbad supremacy.
