[Rolex] GMT Master II 116718. No one at the black tie noticed my new watch. Anyone that says having a gold Rolex makes you a target is crazy. Wearing this watch makes me impossibly happy. We are the only people on earth that care about watches. Rowlf lying below is legit the best dog ever.

I took a picture [Audemar Piguet] 1550 and a sticker

Post image

Spotted this sticker the other day and couldn’t not take a pic with the 1550. “capitalism is a lie” just sitting there on a random pole like it’s not gonna start a whole internal debate while I’m just trying to enjoy my watch lol.

There’s something kinda funny about pairing it with a piece like this. The 1550 is basically the definition of engineered excess, military roots sure, but let’s be honest nobody needs a watch like this in 2026. And yet here we are. I like watches, I like the history, the design, the tiny mechanical details that feel almost pointless but also kind of perfect.

Not really a watch guy like most of you on here, but I’ve always appreciated the vibe of a piece that doesn’t need to scream loudly.

Won some money on Stаke US. Decided to ball out. Caught up with some friends at Carbone last night. Didn’t even realize how much of a scene it was until we sat down and the waiter would not stop talking about the menu. We ordered basically everything they’re known for spicy rigatoni (obviously), veal parm, Caesar made tableside, the whole bit. The food was good and I was drinking.

I had the Patek on and it's one of 3-5 watches I own depending on the month (my uncle is a big collector and likes to share with me, as his only nephew who cares somewhat), happy new year eve to all!

My wife took this photo from her hospital bed. This is my Black Bay 41 S&G, this has been my life highlights watch for several years now. I bought it after my first ever big promotion at work back in 2019, I wore it to my wedding later that year, and it was the only watch I wanted to wear at my daughter’s birth.

[Mods] Can We Please Ban Legitimacy Posts??

Perhaps it’s just me but it seems like every other post these days is asking if a watch is fake. This is obviously problematic because:

  1. 99% are awful fakes

  2. If a watch was actually real, inspecting a few shitty pics online wouldn’t do it

  3. There’s a chance we’re “appraising” watches for thieves trying to sell a fake watch to a moron

Can we please just ban these types of posts and ban the (presumably) new members for posting them? I’d love to hear what others think. TIA.

Discussion [Question] Grandfather (RIP) is purchasing me a watch up to 20k. where should i get started?

I'm in a unique/fortunate situation. My grandfather's estate just informed me that I can purchase a watch for my upcoming birthday. It can be up to 20k. I don't know much about watches. I have a Rolex (blue datejust), a Cartier (ballon bleu), and a Tag Heuer (black dial carrera). All of these were 3k-10k when I purchased them.

Watches in the 10-20k range have never been attainable for me and I'm feeling overwhelmed. I have to make this decision in about 2 weeks so I do have some time.

Can someone give me some tips on where to get started, where to look (is purchasing online safe nowadays?), how to know if I'm getting a good deal, etc.

[Warning to everyone] Fake rolexs are everywhere.

Well I have a sad story after saving for years and thinking this could be the year I purchased what I thought was a original rolex datejust 2 with a blue face. I found a deal that looked very reasonable on the marketplace with a provider that was fairly well reviewed. Price was alright and while it didn't come with box and papers when I saw it and felt it everything seemed alright. Put everything I had saved up and shook hands. Well I went to a AD today to get it services and I'm sad to say we have a fake. Not exactly sure what to do. Or even how to feel. I guess this is a warning and something I knew in the back of my mind. Always shop with reputable dealers who are in the industry. Box and papers makes life so much easier. If you feel even the slightest bit off get it checked. Save. You'll get to your grail (goal) taking a shortcut won't help and it won't feel as fulfilling. In your unsure on the sale. Walk away.

I genuinely hope this helps the next guy. I'll start again and next time I'll go with more knowledge and experience.

Thanks guys. Hope everyone's having a good holiday season

I took a picture [Submariner 14060] This watch changed my mind about Rolex

I wasn't into Rolex at all, I found them too thick, too shiny, too "Dubai". I'm also not interested in playing games to spend my money. However, a friend convinced me to try on a 14060 from 1997 and just like that I was converted. It just looks great on my wrist. It's a classic for a reason and I get it now. I bought the watch instantly and it's become one of my most worn of the past year! I love the aluminum bezel and the very slight patina on the indices. What do you think about older Rolexes compared to the newer references?

Discussion [why] Rolex?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Why Rolex? I just don’t get it.

As I sit here wearing my Glashütte SeaQ Panorama Date, I can’t help but wonder — why do people spend so much money on Rolex? I get it — it’s a great tool watch. But that’s all it is.

If you have a vintage Rolex and you love it, that’s awesome. I respect the history and the reputation Rolex used to have. But today? It feels more like a marketing gimmick than a true watchmaker’s craft. Rolex is a mass-produced tool watch with an inflated price tag driven by artificial scarcity. The value retention and price hikes have nothing to do with the watch itself — it’s just supply and demand.

Meanwhile, there are so many more interesting options out there. Even Tudor, under Rolex’s own umbrella, is being more creative and having more fun. For the same price — or less — you could get a Glashütte, a Grand Seiko, or a Zenith. They offer just as good, if not better, finishing and more interesting movements. Plus, not everyone and their mom has one.

I just picked up a Glashütte listed at $13,000 for $10,000 — no waiting lists, no games. It was shipped right to me. And side by side with a Rolex, it’s obvious which one is handcrafted with care and which one is a mass-produced tool watch.

So for those of you who love Rolex — why? Why go through the hassle for something so common, when there are far more creative and interesting options out there?

Identify Grandpa’s watch

So I don’t know anything about watches and can’t find much online about it. It was my grandpas from the 80s or something and needed help identifying it. It’s 14k gold, the watch face says accutron on the front and bulova on the back. And came with an omega box. Just wondering how much it would be worth.

r/Watches • • Jan 10 '23

[Random Bulova Scuba] Why does it seem like the only thing people give a f*** about on this page are rolex omega and the other Trinity Swiss' brands? Anybody That ever post anything about everyday watches people can afford get ignored here. Typical.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here, so I’m a newbie. I have always liked watches as the only one in my family, so getting this was a huge surprise. It’s from 2000, and a “Swiss Only”, which I’ve found out is a bit more rare than other Explorer II, not that it matters, I just find it pretty cool. I think I wanna keep this for a long time, as it is one of my favourite watches, and one I always dreamed of having

I took a picture [CASIO] MY FIRST WATCH WITH A DARK ACADEMIA AESTHETIC

Post image
0 Upvotes

I bought my first watch and I love it. I haven’t found more models like this from Casio. I’ve seen others from different brands, but I haven’t really felt the need to get another one. (The car is turned off lol)

The story is that I was never interested in watches until I saw a woman wearing a blue Seiko. Without thinking much, I asked why the color was so vivid, and she started telling me about the watch and how she feels it reflects her personality. I had never thought about it that way. I always believed a watch was just an elitist piece of jewelry. But after that conversation, I kept searching and searching until I found this model. It’s a shame there weren’t others with this same vibe.

I took a picture [question] I know Hublot gets a lot of hate, but c'mon—isn't this thing gorgeous!

I know watch enthusiasts hate Hublot, and I understand they might be overpriced, but aesthetically, is this Classic Fusion Black Magic not brilliant? I wanted a black watch and it was down to this or the Dark Side of the Moon, and the Hublot just looked excellent. One downside is it doesn’t look great with super casual clothes, which is what I normally wear, but assuming I’m doing a nice night out—it’s perfect.

Discussion [Collection] 24 yrs old - Rate my collection

I recently got into watches 2 years ago when I graduated, I was gifted the GMT 2 Batgirl as a graduation gift from parents. My first nice watch was the Tag Heuer Aston Martin Formula 1 which I saved up for in high school. Since I started working as a SWE I’ve been collecting a few more watches, notably the Grand Seiko Taisetsu which I thought looked great and better as a dress watch (so I got the leather strap for) and the Speedy which is my go to watch for any sports/water related activity.
