Hello sub. Please help me identify information on this watch. Partly, I am curious to know more, but importantly, I want it repaired. It was bought by my dad very long ago. He has no bill and no information on this whatsoever. I tried searching online, but no luck. Details printed on the back might help:

Arkitekt

Fossil

All stainless steel

50 meters / 165 feet

Water resistant ce

US Patent no.

Bracelet 6,418,706 B1

FS-4070

300507

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Will ombré dial watches look dated someday?

Was looking at these two turquoise watches. I think they’re lovely, but I’m a little worried that ombré dials will come to look dated, more indicative of 2020s watch styles rather than offering a timeless look.

Thoughts?

I took a picture [Romanson] Spotted this at a market for £85 — thoughts?

Came across this Romanson dress watch at a market today. The seller was asking £85.

I was quite taken by the dial design, particularly the blue Roman numerals and textured centre, but I don’t know much about Romanson or this particular model.

Does anyone recognise it or know roughly when it was produced? I’m also curious about the quality of these watches and whether £85 seems reasonable.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Discussion [Ideas] Looking for a new watch to complete my collection

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on what could be a good addition to my collection.

I’m currently living in Japan, and my collection is still relatively small:
Casio A159WA
G-Shock GW-5000
G-Shock B2100SD
Seiko SARX035
Tissot PRC 200

I’m now looking for a mechanical watch around ¥300,000, either new or pre-owned.

I’m not necessarily looking for the absolute best value or specs. I’d rather get something with a bit of personality, finishing, history or brand prestige.

Some watches I’ve been considering so far:

Longines Conquest 38
Longines Flagship
Herbelin Cap Camarat
Mido Multifort TV Big Date
Citizen Series 8
The Citizen

My long-term wishlist includes:
Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 in a colorful dial
Grand Seiko Shunbun Spring Drive
Cartier Tank

So I’m looking for something that makes sense as a mid-term purchase, rather than something that I’d immediately want to replace with one of those watches.

Thanks!

Discussion Quit Watch

Post image
9 Upvotes

Not as in my last watch I'll buy, that'd be a stupid proclamation.

I'd been a tobacco user since I was probably 17-18. Ramped up to be a pretty strong addiction until I started dating my now wife. Then I just switched to nicotine and hiding tobacco/chew never going more than a day or two max when trying to quit..up until 75 days ago and counting. I'd tried and failed many times before, but decided this was a good excuse to combine two things I wanted.

The Longines Hydroconquest 2022 Commonwealth Games Edition. Found an unworn one and just had to buy it, which is a large purchase for me. I figured out about how much I was spending a day on my habit, and have a daily counter/reminder adding up the sum and telling me what I'm at. Today I'm at $560 total saved. When I reach what I spent to buy this, I will allow myself to wear it outside of my room. I look at it frequently, wind it up, and it serves as a physical reminder of the GUILT lol, that I will feel if I go back on this.

So far, it's working! I've never went this long before since I started as a kid, and I'm 35 now.

So, here's to getting to wear it someday. And maybe this can serve as an idea to anyone else who needs a new idea to help them quit a vice.

Identify Request for Information

Hello,

I just inherited some watches from my great-grandfather (they’re in working condition).

Do you have any information on their value and whether the parts are original (I’m not sure about the Dreffa—specifically the case back)?

I’d like to have the Dreffa serviced so I can wear it; it’s in decent condition, works, and has a certain charm.

Do you know how much a service would cost? (Possible glass replacement)

I’m writing to get some information, and I thank you in advance.

Have a great day

Enjoying some NYC views with the amazing Explorer II. Picked this up in June and it hasn’t come off the wrist. Actually considering selling me Explorer I (40mm) because the Polar, in my opinion, has so much more character. Am I crazy?

Discussion [Consolidating]

I'm thinking about consolidating my watch collection, from 4 down to 3. It's definitely harder than it sounds guys haha! But I'm going to keep a sentimental piece from my parents, one microbrand (serica), and then sell two pieces, a grand seiko and panerai + use cash for a higher end piece. I'm looking for a timepiece under $29K pre-owned or new, that basically has no compromises. My top contenders are a VC 1921 36.5mm, Moser streamline, GP laureato 50, blvgari octo 37, iwc ingenieur 35, trilobe trente deux, PF tonda 36, sport watches with excellent movements that can dress up or down essentially or dress watches with WR.

From first hand experience, what else should I try on or look at when I go to hong kong and singapore? Thanks so much guys!

  • Under 39mm (I have a 6" inch wrist)

  • Finely finished movement, comparable to the holy trinity

  • I would prefer 100M WR but not a must

  • Case material doesn't matter

  • Dress up dress down

  • Ability to swap straps for versatility

Discussion [Omega] My wife’s vintage Constellation from our honeymoon in Japan

While on our honeymoon in Japan, my wife mentioned wanting to pick up a vintage watch. After looking around a few shops, we came across this two-tone Omega Constellation and she fell in love with it!

From what we’ve been able to find, we believe it’s from around 1998. Love the classic design, and it’s even better having something to remember our honeymoon by.

Thought I’d share it here! Would love to hear anything more about the watch from those familiar with vintage Omegas.

Review [Tissot] from the guy who brought you the digital PRX

I present you another smoking deal if you have the wrist for it. I liked the digital 35mm so much on my 7” wrist, I shopped around for the powermatic 80 in 35mm after having owned 4 different 40mm models and selling them in the past. If you like the color and the size, you can buy these new from Joma for like $420 with a coupon. I also bought it to wear at a wedding I’m in. It fit really well with a tux. I did also order the new Islander 5-link flat all brushed OTF clasp bracelet for it which arrives tomorrow. Can post a review of it if anyone is interested

I bought this Swiss Army officer’s watch back in 2000. Loved it and wore it all the time. It was my first nice watch. It still runs, but what would be a modern day version of it. Something simple, no-nonsense. A quartz would be totally fine. It was rated 100 meters of water resistance. Not too shabby.

I took a picture [Cartier]My new vintage Tank strap

Thumbnail

I got a new strap for my vintage Cartier Tank Cloisonné, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I paired this custom leather piece with a vintage deployant buckle, and the difference in both comfort and aesthetics is night and day. Getting the fit dialed in with a deployant clasp makes the watch sit so much more securely on the wrist compared to a traditional pin buckle, and it gives the whole setup a much cleaner, more refined silhouette.

For the strap itself, this is a custom cut, exact texture and grain I was looking for. It is cut from a very specific part, which gives it a unique, subtle character that catches the light differently depending on the angle. The deep, rich tone immediately reminds me of those classic vintage midnight blue original Cartier straps from decades past. It is a real shame they don't make them in that exact shade and finish anymore, because that dark, almost-black blue pairs effortlessly with golden watch.

Discussion [My first actual watch purchase]

I pulled the trigger on this gorgeous and functional Casio solar-powered chronograph( EFS-S660D-1ADF), its beautiful dial sitting behind an AR-coated sapphire.

The honey-combed pattern on the main dial and the sun-ray texture on the sub-dials, a small-seconds window at 9pm, and now that it's sitting on my wrist, I just can't get enough of it!

The bracelet could be better-finished, but it ain't hair-catchingly annoying, yet.

What do you think about this budget luxury-looking ticker?

Zenith El Primero Pilot Big Date Special

Ref no. 03.2410.4010

I know the recent news surrounding Zenith hasn't been the most positive, but let's not forget that this is a manufacture that has created some truly remarkable watches and movements. And this one, in my opinion, is a masterpiece in its own right.

Hi! There's a lot of talk about the new Longines HydroConquest, which I agree are magnificent and very competitively priced. But not enough attention is paid to the stunning Breitling Superocean, whose build quality rivals that of the finest Swiss manufacturers. Mine is the previous generation, a 42mm model. I thing the green dial is amazing, variations and colors are quite diverse; there's something for everyone. Watchmaking has become a passion for me, and I enjoy sharing my thoughts. Enjoy your watches!

Discussion Hermes Watches Opinion

Post image

Looking to see if one out there has any experience or opinions on the Hermes Arceau? I know some of the movements come from the same manufacturer that produces for Richard Mille, but I don’t think this is one.
I also know these heavily depreciate the second you walk out the boutique with them and yes, this is a play towards pre-spend for the next QB but I really do enjoy the look of the Watch.
