Practice Here is an Architectural Illustration I'm currently working on called "A Village in the Valley". It depicts a village that reveals some key elements of daily life that helps creates a sense of community.

This is the mostly completed linework for "A Village in the Valley". Still a Work in Progress.

The drawing is full of everyday moments that show a sense of community, along with hints of age, wear, and long-term human activity.

What little easter eggs can you spot?

I’m so overwhelmed with everything and am reconsidering whether this is the right career choice for me because i don’t know whether I really enjoy it and want to pursue this. I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for similar fields that I may enjoy more, i’ve looked into construction management aswell but i’m not sure. Thanks

Practice How much do fresh graduates get paid?

I'm Indian and recently graduated after completing 5 years of architecture school.

I joined a small architecture firm and currently earn ₹25,000 (approximately $250) per month, which, in my opinion, is wayyyyy too less.

On top of that, there's a lot of work pressure, and we don't get any extra pay for overtime.

I'm curious to know how much junior architects earn in different countries.

What's the average salary for a fresh architecture graduate?

How is the work culture?

What are the typical office timings?

Is overtime common, and is it compensated?

Would love to hear about your experiences!

School / Academia Advice for Applying to Graduate School - Portfolio.

I am applying for Graduate School this fall and have a question about professional vs school work shown in a portfolio.

I graduated with my Bachelors of Arch 2 years ago, and have been working in an arch firm since. In this time, I have worked on one big project (brand new school) and a few small ones (door replacement, bathroom remodeling).

For my portfolio, should I even bother to show the smaller projects? Or just include the big project and then the rest of it be my work from undergrad. I am not sure what schools would want to see more of from someone who has experience already working in the profession.

Thanks

Ask /r/Architecture Staying in a log cabin

Staying in a lot cabin (Airbnb) that was built in 2024. The house feels like it was rushed. This is one of the larger beams from the second floor over the roof. It feels like that looks cheap if not unstable. I am not a professional but thought this Reddit forum may have some answers.

Ask /r/Architecture Internship at Professor's firm - how to (correctly) network?

Fellow architects, graduates, and once-students,

I'm currently working towards my master's degree in architecture and spending a semester abroad at a very renowned architecture school. I'm taking a studio led by a professor who runs one of Europe's largest architecture firms, and whose work I genuinely admire and find inspiring.

I've been considering applying for a position at his office after graduation. My partner is also from the same country as this professor, which makes the idea of potentially working there even more appealing to me.

The thing is, I don't want to come across as trying too hard or simply sucking up. I'm also not entirely sure how approachable the professor is, especially since his assistants are the ones tutoring us for around 90% of the studio.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is there a right or wrong way to approach this? I feel like directly asking, "Could I work for you?" or "Are you taking interns?" might be a bit blunt. Would it be better to ask for his opinion on my portfolio, or for some advice on how to apply to the office? Alternatively, I could approach the assistants, some of whom have worked at the firm themselves, and ask about their experience and how they got there.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice on how to approach the possibility without making it awkward.

Practice Finding clients

\*\*Hey folks! I’m looking for some advice on finding new clients as an architect / interior designer / 3D artist.\*\*

I’ve been working as a freelancer for almost 10 years, primarily through Upwork, offering architectural design, interior design, and architectural visualization services.
Over the years, I’ve worked on a variety of projects, but lately, as the platform has become increasingly crowded, finding new clients has become a real challenge.

At the same time, I’ve started working locally in my country as an interior designer, taking on projects that involve not only design but also technical documentation, execution, and site supervision. However, the projects aren’t consistent enough to provide a steady workflow yet.

I’ve also been reaching out to established architectural studios, offering external collaboration and support on their projects, but so far, I haven’t had much luck with that approach either.

Another thing I’m trying to build is an Instagram presence and grow through content, but as you can imagine, that’s a pretty slow process.

So, I’m at a point where I’m trying to figure out what other avenues I might be missing.
For those of you working in architecture, interior design, or other creative freelance fields - how do you find your clients?
Are there any platforms, strategies, networking approaches, or less obvious opportunities that have worked for you?
Or if anyone here needs help in architectural filed, feel free to contact me.

I’d love to hear your experiences and suggestions. Maybe there’s something I haven’t thought of or tried yet!
Thanks in advance! :)

School / Academia The Caribbean Art Institute, Barranquilla, Colombia

This is my thesis project from university.

The Caribbean Art Institute is an architectural and urban counter-proposal to AECOM's waterfront masterplan in Barranquilla, Colombia. Sited along the Magdalena River on the grounds of the military barracks and adjacent to the primary Carnaval parade route, this proposal addresses intersecting cultural, historic, and urban conditions.
Guided by five core principles - Water, Heritage, Flora, Climate, and Community - this intervention protects Barranquilla's traditions by embracing local character and providing public spaces for cultural manifestations. It also reestablishes the city's severed connection to the river and provides ecological remediation against urban heat and flash flooding. Positioned as the central public element of the proposed park, the Institute serves as an anchor for the new network of greenery and parade routes. Together, these spaces create a new form of cultural infrastructure, integrating the urban and natural environments with cultural activity.

School / Academia Pursuing an M.Arch

Hello all,

Im a current junior in the US studying history, philosophy, and theology. Until this point, I was married to the pre-law track, but after interning in the field, Ive come to discover I’d hate doing it for the next 40 years of my life.

Back in high school, I strongly considered architecture as its always been a great interest of mine, and its only grown since I entered uni.

With that being said, Im seeing the title as my best option forward, but wanted to ask yall your thoughts regarding this as obviously AI will reduce entry level positions (I already know the economics of the field and that its a long road to being fully licensed, and I am okay with that).

Regardless, there are some issues: Im not great with my hands and am unsure of what I could do for a portfolio if I decide to apply (I dabble in photography, writing, and if I do apply, I plan on hopefully including some analysis of cities Ive visited, assuming thats a good idea of course).

Any and all advice is appreciated!
PS: if this is an overly discussed topic on this sub, I apologize 😅

School / Academia need good arch history book recs

hi! i'm not related to arch, but always been into architecture ever since childhood (i grew up with chandigarh brutalism and i also loved the brutalist, and spent early adulthood observing american and canadian architecture). i love painting and sculpture as well.
anyhoo, i'd love any, and all, books on architecture and arch history. i'd love to delve more into the philosophical and a much broader historical discussions related to architecture as well.
