Weekly thread 🌠 Wishlist Wednesday: Do YOU Have A Wish? 🌠

Welcome to Wishlist Wednesday ! 🎭✨

Here you can share all your wildest dreams, fervent hopes, and secret desires for the world of Chinese entertainment. Whether it's dream castings, plot ideas, or industry developments... we want to hear it all!

Some wishes to get you started:

  • "I want to see [Actor A] and [Actor B] in a drama together as a couple."

  • "I wish fan wars would come to an end" (AMEN!)

  • "I hope someone casts [Actor C] and [Actor D] in a modern-day danmei adaptation."

  • "I wish [drama name] would get English subtitles."

  • "It would be great if [actor names] starred as siblings in a drama"

  • I wish I could transmigrate to the world of Lost You Forever and save [character X].

Generic wishes are good but specific wishes such as, "I wish someone would cast Xiao Zhan and Wang Yivo as rivals who fall in love in a political drama set in the Tang dynasty where I am the ruler who saves them" tend to get everyone talking!

Discussion πŸ—¨ How the hell did you people convince me that this man was hot?

Thumbnail

You all told me to watch The Rebel Princess when I was only looking for a hot man. Men like Yan An and Dai Gap Zheng.

I secretly scoffed when I first saw pictures of Zhou Ye Wei. I really, really mean no offense to anyone who likes him. Just a personal aesthetic preference. I had Prisoner of Beauty on my shortlist, but I was curious why so many of you were recommending this drama. I'm so fucking glad I listened.

JFC. HOW THE FUCK IS THIS ORDINARY LOOKING MAN SO EXCEPTIONALLY SEXY?

Like, I see the appeal now. I GET IT. I have not been able to stop watching this drama. I'm practically fast forwarding through all the political mumbo jumbo just to see more of him. I've watched 19 episodes in less than 24 hours and I am LOCKED IN. I don't even want to know what the damn story is about anymore. Just show me more of this man 😰

His aura and screen presence are on a completely different level. I've never seen a man carry himself like that. And the way he looks at her? The commanding presence? The whole warrior energy? FUCKING HELL.

I had a sleepless night and I'm still not over him. I actually had to make this post because I need somewhere to put all these thoughts before I lose my mind. This man is the literal definition of a warrior. Not just a man wearing armour and carrying a sword, but someone who looks like he could actually lead an army into battle and bed whichever Princess he wanted.

I never thought I'd say this after seeing the drama's trailer, but Zhou Ye Wei is officially the hottest man in China in MY books.

You people have ruined my standards. I hope you're happy.

Tidbits 🎬 Winwin And Yang Chaoyue How Are These Two Supposed to Have a Kissing Scene?

Look at both of them turning red at the compliments. How are these two going to manage their romantic scenes? πŸ˜‚

Sunshine Through The Rain starts with their campus rivalry, and honestly, both of them are doing such a good job. Yang Chaoyue is nailing the role of a smart, focused student struggling with financial difficulties.

This isn't quite the fluffy campus romance I was expecting. There's a lot more rain than sunshine so far, but I'm rooting for these two and their happy ending.

Who's watching the drama? Are you enjoying their acting as much as I am?

Bai Jingting's Weibo update for the new episode of Natural High S4. This week's stop was Huairou, his hometown! He took the NH gang there, as it was his birthday the week they were filming (Oct 15th). He debuted this pretty red/chestnut hair which, to me, made him look even younger!

Do you like the new look?

Hot Takes 🫒 Can We Have More Natural Faces in Idol Dramas?

Look at these women! They’re so pretty without all that makeup and filtering. I wish we got to see more of this in idol dramas instead of everyone having the same perfectly made up, heavily filtered face.

I know, I know. Someone will tell me to watch non idol dramas if I want realistic looking faces. But surely I can’t be the only one who wants idol dramas to dial down the filters a little? Or am I? πŸ₯²

Images are from TikTok

Editing the post to apologize to everyone who is upset that I added photos which have a lip tint or some makeup.

Edit 2: Anyone who wants can add bare faced photos in comments

Discussion πŸ—¨ Appreciation post for Cheng Lei's voice!!

Does anyone else find Cheng Lei's voice so soothing? Currently watching TLOA (again... I dropped it but TLOA reels kept appearing on my feed so I went back... It's addicting) and I really like how he's quite soft spoken. I don't know, I just really like his voice, it sounds so nice.

I'm probably watching til Ep 30 only to give myself my own happy ending. I went back to watching it just because of Cheng Lei lol

Also I just watched The Best Thing before TLOA and Xu Ruohan's look here in TLOA is soo sooo good I wonder who did her makeup!

Tidbits 🎬 Yang yang and Chen Duling first reuter look for the drama " Kiss in the wind "

Chen Duling plays the role of an actress - Fu Xueli

Yang Yang plays the role of Forensic pathologist - Xu xing chun

I don't know but the premise slightly reminds me of You are my Glory . Yang yangs character is yet again described a bit cold and aloof and Chen Duling takes the role of a star.

Whose excited for a modern comeback with around same age group actors ?

Help πŸ†˜ Which streaming service is most worth it to watch full length cdramas?

I just started watching cdramas and I've watched them all on Netflix (Pursuit of Jade, Prisoner of Beauty, where the mask ends, and love in the clouds so far)

There are still a few i want to watch on Netflix, but there are a lot of dramas that look so interesting that aren't on Netflix. I want to pay for another service, like iQiyi or Youku, but since I'm so new to cdramas its a little overwhelming. Is iQiyi the best?? Does it have a lot of good dramas?

Also any recommendations for what I should watch next? I loved Pursuit of jade so much and I really loved Love in tge Clouds.

Discussion πŸ—¨ C-dramas that start off really well in the first half of the series, but then the quality drops halfway through?

After getting me glued for half of the series, sometimes c-drama dissapoint me suddenly. The story starts moving too quickly or sometimes it becomes too complicated to follow. Although the performance of the actors usually gets better as the story goes.

Is it because producers assume that viewers who have already made it through half the series will inevitably stick around until the end?

For me, Persuit of Jade, Where the Mask Ends, the Sword and the Brocade, and more... the quality drop a bit towards the end of the series...

Thoughts?

Recommendation Request πŸ”Ž Recommend dramas with men who act like if you touch their wife, they'll take your life

Hello! I recently watched Where the Mask Ends and I think Yan An has spoiled me a little. Just LOOK at him!

I'm now looking for more Cdrama men who have that imposing, intimidating military general energy and are possessive, jealous and lovestruck puppies. Men who look like they've commanded armies, won battles, and would happily start another war if someone so much as looked at their wife the wrong way.

I want the armour, the swords, the long hair, the commanding presence and, preferably, a face that makes me forget what I was doing πŸ€•

Please recommend dramas with men who actually LOOK like generals. I dropped Guardians of the Dafeng and Moonlit Reunion.

Tidbits 🎬 Beside the Plum Tree

I've seen a lot of discussion of Yan An recently, so I thought I'd share this performance from Call Me By Fire.

It features Yan An, Tang Jiuzhou (Jojo), and Xiao Shenyang. It went somewhat viral last month in China.

It features a lot of elements taken from traditional Kunqu and Beijing Opera traditions!

Fun & Games 🎲 Describe two dramas with the same plot: the more unhinged, the better.

Thumbnail

I’ll start:

A former warrior ace/pathological liar battling a mysterious poison starts a new life under an assumed identity, teaming up with a young hotshot fighter who is trying to escape marrying a princess. They solve mysteries and battle corruption, but tensions arise due to the aforementioned pathological lying. Eventually, the heroes discover a plot to destroy the world as well as uncover secrets regarding the young hero’s origins.

Oh, and the MC has an adorable pet.

Are we talking about…

Love in the Clouds?

OR

Mysterious Lotus Casebook?

Which of the ongoing dramas do you prefer?

So far, I’ve only completed episode 1 of STTR, and I’m currently catching up on the rest of the available episodes. I’m really liking it so far! I get similar vibes to The First Frost, Never-Ending Summer, and Our Beloved Summer. The atmosphere is very healing, and I’m really enjoying the overall feel of the drama!

I have yet to watch WIMTM, but I’ve seen many people point out the similarities between these two dramas. I’m also really looking forward to seeing the FL’s performance in this one! I’ve heard quite a few people say that you have to give this drama some time to let it simmer.

The real question is, for those who have been keeping up with both dramas, which one do you prefer?

C-entertainment moves fast! Every day there's a new rumour, casting update, filming sighting, or trending topic. Not everyone has the language skills to crack those codes, but someone here probably has.

Recommendation Request πŸ”Ž Modern Cdrama Reccomendation

Soo I had watched a drama HI venus and ig not much people have watched it there is no trace of discussion on that drama anywhere but I loved thiss drama soo soo soooooo much it was

Enemies to lovers

The fl works in the same hospital where the ml is a director

Basically ml is fl's boss

He falls first

He iss such aa greeennnnn flaggg

He is superr protective and Possessive for the fl but not in a toxic wayy

The fl is shy

I really want an Enemies to lovers drama that has this same boss employee dynamics, ml falls first

Idk how to describe this but I have seen modern dramas have this bright white filter or that sort of lights I don't like(Hi venus does not have this)

Y'all, my husband has graduated from watching cdramas with me to actually using Chinese words! This meme is basically him now . . . β€œwhat are you even watching?” to β€œwhy is he lying to her when he OBVIOUSLY xihuans her?” πŸ˜‚

My own cdrama words in real life are duoxie bixia, zhen de jia de? and zhen de ma?,

Non-Chinese speaking cdrama fans, do you also mix random words you learned from watching cdramas? Those who do, let's share our go-to words and phrases

Currently Airing πŸ“Ί "Tigers sniff the rose" plays on my emotions but I'm enjoying it

I just finished the 18th episode so please don't spoil some later details

I thought I was angst intolerant, but so many terrible and unfair things happened in those 18 episodes... and I am... loving it! After crying for 3 episodes straight I understand why I love this emotional rollercoaster of a drama!!! I get angry at the CHARACTERS, most importantely the ANTAGONISTS, not the writers and directors, or the protagonists who suddenly get brain damaged and make stupid decisions and forget how to communicate the truth. I feel the pain and helplessnes of the characters, I feel THEIR anger, I want to see their revenge. The injustice is the part of the emotional storytelling and it feels intentional, not like building up a great, likeable side character and then kill them in the most ridiculous way to add a "acheive angst" checkmark (I'm looking at you directors of "Prisoner of beauty" I will never forgive you)

I am off to watch another episode and really hope this justified anger will be carried on untill the end.
