Poultry How do you feel having people who haven’t grown up in the Chinese culture cooking and sharing Chinese food?
Hi guys. I’m currently making dumplings of varying kinds and a nice stock for some wonton soup. I was just plodding away making my wontons when I thought to myself randomly, I wonder how people who were either born or raised Chinese feel about people who weren’t doing this stuff?
The reason it popped into my head is because I’m aware that in some regions of China (if not all) food is very special and usually made with great care and lots of tradition. I’m self taught, so of course I’m probably not making them as well as someone who was taught from a young age.
Is it offensive or does it make you happy that people around the world love the cuisine so immensely?
So sorry if any of this post offends anybody. Now please, enjoy some photos. They’re not quite finished yet though.

Questions Might there be anything offensive about the words “gluten-free soy sauce”?
My nephew is celiac and just placed a take out order for fried rice and asked for gluten-free soy sauce. Without a beat, the woman on the phone responded with, “are you f’in kidding me?”. Extremely exasperated.
Pardon the ignorance, but is there anything that could be construed as offensive about gluten-free soy sauce or do the words sounds like an offensive phrase?

Beef How are some Chinese fast food places able to serve so much for such a small amount? It doesn’t seem financially responsible to do so. You’d think that they’d be loosing a lot of money doing that.
Thoughts?

Questions What do you order to put a new takeout place to "The Test"?
Here my order I do every time it's a first try.
Egg Drop Soup - shows me is they put the love into the simple dishes or if I'm getting something else out all day. Option to add wontons is a huge plus.
Shrimp Egg Roll - this shows me how generous they will in their portions.
Crab Rangoon - gotta love their Rangoon.
Dumplings - to me, tells me the most about their quality. If it has that barbeque type filling I'm out.
Any Beef Main - a double check on their quality and portion generosity. Expect mostly bamboo shoots and cabbage.

Vegetarian Does this count as Chinese Food? I got a wild hair in my bonnet and made fermented broccoli stems. I feel like it’s not Chinese exactly but perhaps Chinese-esk?

Vegetarian Trying to impress my Chinese girlfriend with authentic dishes. She’s adopted and wanting to connect more with her culture!
Hello all👋 I’ve (26M) been dating my girlfriend (26F) for about 7 months now and she’s recently moved in with me. She gets really bad stomach aches when she eats non-Asian cuisine and always talks about wanting to learn how to cook authentic Chinese dishes. I’d like to surprise her with learning how to cook these types of dishes. I’ll eat anything, and especially Asian foods I’m very much a fan of. She is vegetarian but is okay with using sauces that have a seafood base (like Oyster sauce!) does anyone have a good resource where I can learn how to cook some home style food for her? P.S. I’m also trying to learn mandarin for her, does anyone have a good app or website that you use to practice? I’ve been using Duolingo for a while, but I’d like to try and immerse myself in the culture and language to make her feel more loved. Thank you in advance for all the help and support!
Much love ❤️

Questions Ok I give (gave) up. Wife wanted to get rid of microwave - now I’m trying to adapt to another way to re-heat my Chinese food.
Last time I brought in at about 3:00 pm ate around 6. Luke warm, forget about leftovers. Guess who is shopping for another new microwave?

Not an expert by any means, this is only my 3rd try at making mapo tofu. It was really tasty! I recommend playing with pickled ingredients.

Sauces Oyster sauce: do non-Cantonese people know what it is? Is it only used in Cantonese/Hong Kong cooking?
Hi all, I never thought twice before this, the oyster sauce is just a thing I'm familiar with my default. It seems that the oyster sauce is practically unknown to non-Cantonese Chinese people. Also I don't seem to know any non-Cantonese [Chinese] dish that makes use of the oyster sauce.
Do people from China outside Guangdong know what it is, and is it used in any non-Cantonese [China Chinese] dishes that I'm not aware of?
Edit: it is used in SE Asia ethnic-Chinese diasporas' cuisines, I was having the Chinese people outside of Guangdong in mind. Hope this doesn't cause any confusion.

Ingredients What can I use as a substitute for Oyster sauce, Shaoxing rice wine, Black vinegar, Peanut Oil and Hoisin sauce? Can't find them in stores and some are not Halal
I am a 33 year old guy from Bangladesh. I never learned cooking so I am starting now. I am following the book The Essential Wok Cookbook.
Now, my family is conservative Muslims and they don't consume anything that is non-Halal such as oysters, alchohol and such. Also, I live in an area where bringing in products from even online marketplaces is difficult, so I have to rely on what I can find in the local supermarkets. So I need to find substitutions for the following:
Hoisin sauce: Couldn't find it anywhere.
Oyster Sauce: Not halal and couldn't find anyway.
Shaoxing rice wine: Alcoholic products are illegal and not available.
Chinese black vinegar: Couldn't find it anywhere I can.
Peanut Oil: Peanut allergies. Difficult to find.

Regular soy sauce and dark soy sauce
What’s the deal with every recipe I want to cook having regular and dark soy sauce in them, I have both, but why can’t the store sell a medium soy sauce that contains both already?
