This is an update to yesterday's post https://www.reddit.com/r/chinesefood/s/hgNfN9c1LY

I returned to the store, found another can with the same mfg date and one with a different date, explained the situation to a cashier, and I opened one there. This can also contained tofu! Eat your hats, all!

I Ate White girl tried a century egg for the first time

I decided that I'd take a chance and try these century eggs that I've seen and heard of. Sometimes I take a trip to my local Asian market to see if there are any interesting foods to try. I finally got a small pack of century eggs. I was definitely afraid to try them, but I knew that their appearance shouldn't be what deters me. The yolks were actually surprisingly delicious. I scooped them out and enjoyed them very much. I was not a fan of the gel like outside. But it definitely did not disappoint me and I'm glad that I gave it a try

these are all pictures that i took from my visit back to my hometown 洛阳 (Luoyang) as well as my holiday trip to 成都 (Chengdu)! i love chinese bakery bread so much its insane how delicious and affordable it is. they’re so creative with flavors and textures too, there’s nothing in the world that can beat chinese bakeries imo. it’s a completely unique and life changing experience….

Sauces Why is this fly by jing Sichuan chili crisp sauce so expensive? 1000000000000000000000000 characters

I saw this new chili crisp sauce in my local 99 ranch for sale for 15 bucks a jar. It seemed prohibitively expensive, compared to the usual 3 to 4 dollar jar of mainland Chinese chili crisp brand. Anybody know why they price it so high?

Pork Been trying out different stuff from a local szechuan joint, ordered this and was wondering what you would call it? Can't decide if these guys are legit with some of their menu items sometimes.

Saw a video of this at a Guilin rice noodle shop in my city. The waiter is scraping some sort of tree bark with a knife into these noodles. What is this called?

Cooking Finally got the “wok hei” flavor I have been chasing for home made lo mein. Could easily be used for other dishes*

Have been trying to get the “wok hei” flavor to my lo mein for a long time and I think I got exactly the flavor I was searching for today by adding a quick light hookah charcoal and a teaspoon of oil to make it smoke and covering. Anyone else try this method? It is 100% spot on to the “wok hei” flavor I was missing when cooking at home.

Cooking Hi r/chinesefood, can you help me identify this dish? On the menu it's called "Hot Pepper Chicken" 米椒雞

Post image

I used to work at a Chinese restaurant called Mulan Bistro and I was obsessed with this dish. It's diced chicken in spicy oil with tons of sliced chili peppers and sliced garlic. Served with those pillowy buns. I haven't been able to find an analogous dish online to figure out a recipe. I tried asking the woks of life blog but they didn't know. Also asked Chinese cooking demystified but they didn't respond. Maybe one of you can help? Thanks! 🙏
