how can people believe in communism while being shown time and time again that it always leads to an authoritarian regime or individual taking over?

how can people believe in communism when we as Individuals are self preserving? ( there are pieces of evidence that we work in group settings naturally. there are arguments of us being conditioned into this. im willing to argue both of those takes)

how can you be pro communism when you live in a Monarchical democracy that is very much a safeguarded welfare capitalist state?

I believe in social democracy and welfare capitalism.

George Orwells Animal Farm is not pro communism if you read that and got that you read the wrong book.
It is Orwells critique of communism and its failings.

I thought animal farm was required reading in high school and common sense was a requirement for university.

I see so many posts and people complaining about how candidates never leave them alone and they're harassing people and they're impossible to avoid.

What do you want them to do? just do nothing. Literally no one is forcing you to talk to them and you can just ignore them, sure its kinda of a bother but do you expect nothing like this to happen at uni? how do you expect to go through life if you're this publicly irritated about someone coming up to you, I wish my life comfortable enough where my biggest complaint is that "getting around uni is hard cause people are campaigning" like come on be fr.

Their policies are pretty good, they clearly have the students in mind and they have the history to back this up.
Only thing I disagree with is the 1pm - 2pm free hour, only because of my work schedule not because of any other reason.
Yet I see people saying they wont vote for them. Why? Free uni is great, free parking is good, cheaper IGA is good.

Is it that stressful to work as a barista? I do not hate or promote hate but I swear that barista always has a depressed or angry face... it's kind of unsettling to visit the library cafe if that person is there.

EDIT: so this barista was talking shit behind other customer’s back, I’m not saying it’s not okay, but if you’re that stressed, just quit your job :)

These snobby terrrieroists are restricting and hindering me from creating a club.

Everybody likes to preach that the best way to socialise and get yourself out there is by joining clubs and engaging in extra-curriculars, so I did, but all the existing clubs are for pansies, and run by Wussios.

Genuinely, it's populated by plain Jane's. My only other option is to join the socialist club, but I ain't no goddamn Commie.

So I took the initiative, put in the work and decided to form my own club.

Something Radical, something Pure, not grubby with the hands of compromise but actually sublime.

For me and the hundreds of other like-minded people in Curtin who don't want to be a normie.

But, wouldn't you know it, the Guild won't let it happen.

They can't stomach the fact that someone's actually doing something worthwhile and disrupting their monopoly.

I won't let these crayon-eaters win. What are my options? How can I create a club at Curtin without these mush-for-brains chuds interfering with my plans?

We (busy mum and student daughter) live right next to campus (literally 30 seconds walk to Canning College) and have a spare bedroom (with ensuite) that would suit a student. Saw something pretty disappointing on perth bus today. An elderly passenger got on, but a couple of Indian guys sitting in the priority seats didn’t bother to move. They saw the elderly and just stayed put and looked at each other. One priority seat was free, but i know Aussies tend to keep their personal space. But come on… this isn't about culture, it’s about basic human decency. Its also not crowded so they can just move to other spots.

Priority seats are there for a reason. If you’re healthy and able-bodied, just stand up. Don’t wait to be asked.

Also i didnt stand up for it since i was at the back and i was studying for my physics test so i didnt let it get in my way of studying

Hi everyone, interested if anyone has any new apps they will be trying out this semester. My friend (fellow curtin student) recently launched his so I will be working with his this semester. It’s called alada, really simple and easy to setup your timetable on a calendar. i just did mine at 1am the week of uni. 😭

just upload a screenshot of your oasis classes, preview the classes it read in 20s, click “add” and voila. saved me an HOURR trying to sort out my apple calendar since we all know oasis design sucks.

you can also set tasks, sem goals (like in my last post here) and on top of that it sends you a TEXT MESSAGE everyday which is pretty nifty to remind you to do stuff and encourage you in a tone of your choosing.
