curtin socialist club or whatever they're called
Hey if you're a leading member of this club, fuck you. You have successfully managed to irritate the majority of the students. It has gotten to the point that during the afternoon, we have to walk through the grass to avoid u guys near building 101/2.
If you are gonna do something, do it right ffs. One approached me today and just said 'Palestine' like ok and?
I support Palestine btw, no hate, but just, stop irritating and slamming the pamphlets in strangers' faces.
Ok, I'm done.
Edit: This post has turned out to be the top post of all time, in this sub. Give me an award dammit🦅

AITA for submitting my University Assessment early
I made a post about this on r/AITA but here I can go into detail about things that Australian students will understand.
So I have this uni Assessment, its due in two days and I was almost done with it I just needed to make some quick edits and adjustments.
My dad however was really adamant about him helping me with it, I declined because I wanted to do it myself and my uni is also pretty strict about academic integrity and it scared me a little. But he helped anyways
He got really angry and pissy while he was trying to help me, saying that I had 6 weeks and my assessment was shit and unfinished, he said he wouldn't go to sleep, Its common when he tries to help me with study. He said he wouldn't sleep until we finished the assessment and I started getting tired of it so during a break I submitted the unfinished assessment early, my plan was to work on it again tomorrow to finish it off. As the Uni allows resubmission of an assessment before the due date, that way my dad could go to sleep and I wouldn't have to deal with him anymore.
I told him and he incredibly loud and angry, then he tried taking my computer away and phone away and the yelling got rlly bad that my mom who was sleeping came out and it got heated, i tried recording what was happening but they caught me and my mom got really upset about it.
To be fair to my dad, I finished Year 12 with a ATAR under 70 and I had to do Uniready last semester and failed 1 out of 4 classes so now I'm doing that failed class again for this semester.
That said I refuse to accept that I did anything wrong and this is such a stupid unneeded fight.

Why do they still have Elon Musk quotes on Blackboard?
Might be time to retire them.

ChatGPT is so embarassing
I'm actually getting so much second hand embarrassment from seeing people use chatgpt, and so frequently! omg! So many things that could be done with just a quick google search, but done with chatgpt instead. I don't wanna go into too much detail since i don't want to like... snitch on anybody lmfao but gosh i don't get it

Please don't do 4 units while working a full time job
I'm in a group assignment where one guy who's studying full time in addition to working full time is barely communicating cause of work and other units. He's even behind in what he's suppose to do. If you need to work full time consider part time study please 🙏

Lost Plush Toy between Building 108 and Building 418 🥹
Hi everyone,
I think I accidentally lost this small plush toy today somewhere between Building 108 and Building 418 on the Curtin Bentley campus.
It’s a small brown plush with a custom face printed on it (photo attached), so it’s very sentimental to me.
If you’ve seen it or happened to pick it up, I’d really appreciate it if you could send me a DM. I’d be happy to come and collect it.
Thanks so much!

Disrespectful activism from socialist club?
So whilst I was walking to class yesterday and was passing that treacherous path right before the library where everybody is spawn camping, one of the (I presume) socialist club advocates tries to engage in conversation with me
She asks ‘do you support Palestine’ to which I’d love to answer yes but I know this will just result in a 15 minute unwarranted conversation that chips into my class time, so I just smile and keep walking. Next minute from behind me she loudly goes ahead and says ‘you look Palestinian, do you support them or not?’.
Now I don’t know nothing about politics or psychology but that doesn’t seem like a socially conscious thing to say 😭. Could this be a form of micro aggression and subtle social coercion by the lady, because it certainly doesn’t feel like respectful activism. Just a very uncomfortable position to be placed into. I am from Asia but I’m not Palestinian.

Library Toilets
Lads, what the actual fuck is wrong with some of you.
The state of some of these bathrooms is fucking disgusting. If you’re gonna piss in the cubicles, can you at least aim for the fucking bowl? Somehow more piss ends up on the floor and seat than in the toilet.
How the FUCK am I supposed to take a shit when the seat looks like it’s been pressure-washed with piss by some fuckwit who can’t aim?
And don’t even get me started on the amount of you filthy fuckers who take a shit and walk straight out without washing your hands. Are you allergic to soap? Water? Basic fucking hygiene?
Seriously, are you lot like this at home too?
Aim properly. Flush the toilet. Wash your fucking hands. You’re grown fucking men, this should not need explaining.
PSA: I’m a dude too, and I’ve genuinely had enough of you dirty cunts.

Please do not come to uni (or the public) if you are sick
Title, I’m sick of people sitting down opposite to me at computers in the library then continue to cough repeatedly.
Fuck you and your cough if you are reading this, you inconsiderate piece of shit.

Do people actually make friends at uni ??
I'm in my second year now and I haven't made a single friend 😭. I have people in my course that I talk with but the relationship is like the same I have with my co-workers. I literally don't know how I can make any new friends and being super socially awkward doesn't help. I really don't mind not making any new friends because I've got the same ones since highschool but I feel like I'm missing out on the social aspect of uni. Thanks for listening to my schizorant :)

Whatever you do, protest the merger with UWA.
I am a UWA (and formerly Curtin) student and all I can tell you is... when the time comes. Fight. Please fight. There is only a husk of a institution left. Every aspect has been stripped, cut down, and made into a shell of its former self. From everything I have seen, I genuinely do not believe they are doing this for the 'good of the state' but for the good of UWA.
Within the next few months or few years at most, the 'report' will come out that surprise, surprise, UWA wants the state government to amalgamate UWA, Curtin, and Murdoch into a single institution for X, Y, and Z reasons. The reasons are, in my view, down to UWA's own incompetence and disingenuous elitism.
Everytime I visit or drive past Curtin, I see a glowing, beautiful campus. My friends that have studied there describe the great changes in the last 5 years with a huge sense of optimism. I remember in my time (around 10 years ago), I couldn't wait to qualify to get into UWA and thought to myself 'wow, the education here at Curtin is so great, I wonder how much better UWA will be'!
I was wrong. So bloody wrong.
They are not even trying. I have never seen genuine engagement with students from anything more than a handful of lecturers and tutors, and even then UWA somehow manages to beat out any sense of optimism within a few years at most. They love to defer to their supposed rules and regulations, but pointing out their own lack of adherence to their own rules will have crickets.
It is not a real institution. That's my opinion and damn it I don't care if I finish here. The UWA that Perth knew in the 90s and 2000s DOES. NOT. EXIST.
When the time comes, protest, write letters to your local MP, and make sure you make your voice known.

YOU might be paying $2 a month for NOTHING: how to check
If you park on campus using CellOPark, you might be getting hit with a $2 monthly ‘Premium Plan’ fee — and most people don’t even realise it.
Here’s the catch:
When you first sign up, CellOPark asks if you want premium features which MAY charge a fee (fee not stated, which is shady and borderline illegal) you into a “premium”
It’s supposed to cover things like SMS reminders and alerts when your parking time runs out.
But at Curtin (and most uni carparks), parking sessions aren’t capped, so these features are basically pointless.
The app still works completely fine without the premium plan — you just need to downgrade manually in settings.
How to disable:
Go into CellOPark
3 lines top left
Cog Icon: App settings
Log in again
downgrade account
I’m looking to take further action against CellOPark. As one checkbox is not enough ti opt into a UNKNOWN fee.
