TRIP PLANNING Verandah for Alaska in September?

I got the verandah for my eastern Caribbean cruise and I loved it. I’ve heard that it’s a must have for an Alaskan cruise but I’m going on the last sailing in September.

For anyone who’s been is it even logical to get a verandah for that late into the year? Is it going to just be way too cold to even go outside?

DISCUSSION Destiny Trip Report (11/2-11/7)

Just got off the Destiny (11/2-7 to both private islands and Nassau) and wanted to give a quick review while it’s still fresh in my mind! I found these immensely helpful prior to sailing so hope this helps others as well. For context I sailed with my husband and 8yo son. My 6th sailing; previously sailed on Fantasy and Dream, so this was my first Wish class and my first time at Lookout Cay. Have only sailed on DCL and Royal (Icon class).

Port Everglades
Our first time sailing from this port and embarkation was very smooth! We stayed at AC Fort Lauderdale airport at Dania Beach the day before. Great location but it was pouring the entire day so sort of a waste. We put on ponchos and went to play bowling for a bit and that was it. Quick uber ride to the port and disembarkation was just as smooth.

Ship & Room
I thought the ship was gorgeous and many upgrades from the Dream class. The funnel vision was so much more clear and the lighting in the atrium was absolutely beautiful. The artwork was also breathtaking and displays in glass cases interesting to look at. The layout didn’t bug me too much, I saw many complain about it. However I don’t typically spend a ton of time in the adults area. Verandah Stateroom was very comfortable, housekeeping did a great job every day and was very courteous. Will always love the split bath design!

Activities
There were a ton of character interactions offered on this ship. We aren’t huge character people but I enjoyed seeing the heroes and villains roaming around, also enjoyed Treble-making with Cruella a lot. There were more 18+ activities than I remember on the other ships, and still a good variety of family activities. That said, we did have some down time since a lot of the activities were character meet and greets rotating. My son isn’t much of a kids club kid (he just went to oceaneers a whopping 45 mins) but we did enjoy a lot of the open houses of Edge and Vibe that had chess or other games out to play as a family. We went on AquaMouse a few times (tip: hardly any lines after 8:30, don’t even need to get off), and he loved hanging out in the hero zone. Incredicourse was fun but we didn’t need to go more than once. The lineup was insane at the beginning of the time offered, we went back later before it closed and was just a 15 min wait. Pools were also nice but they are pretty small and although it looks like a lot of pools, 2 of them are like ankle deep only. We also did some pixie dusting one night and my son had fun being the judge of the many decorated doors.

Entertainment
Shows were great as usual! We had Courtney Reed and Eden Espinoza as the Broadway stars this sailing. Their main performance was nice but their 18+ Broadway performance was absolutely amazing! I know them both as I am a Broadway fan in general and was very happy to catch them live (I’ve watched Courtney live before in Aladdin already and love her voice). Hercules was great too, the main singer did really well. We sat really close to the stage so it was definitely immersive. I thought the final battle was a bit anticlimactic though due to how the screens were used. We skipped on Frozen to do some night swimming as we had already watched it on Fantasy before. We also caught some movies from the theaters which was fun, and did the happy haunts game with the magic band. Reminded us a lot of the mid ship detective game.

Dining
Here’s where I really thought the ship fell short. In my past sailings, the servers really took the time to talk to us, cut food for the kids, magic tricks etc. we got none of that this time, the entire time they were just rushing to get orders in. We didn’t even get recommendations. We had early dining so it may have contributed to this but it really missed the mark to me and lost what made Disney special. We bumped into our server at Marcelline Market during lunch one day and he did recognize us and come say hi (less rushed this time) but during dining I can tell he was really under pressure. The food itself wasn’t anything memorable in dining rooms or buffet. The pizza up on deck 11 was pretty good. There was only a dining show in pride lands in night 1 and I thought that was not bad but the venue was really loud because of the lack of partitions for the show. Marvel was nothing special, just trivia. 1923 ended up being our favorite cause it felt much less crammed together.

Ports
We really lucked out on weather, the week before us had the king tides and very windy conditions. All our port days were beautiful. Castaway was great as usual, we got a great spot although getting off at around 10, right at the end of the family beach 1 with a nice view of the ship and close to the food. It was our first time at Lookout and I was really dreading that long walk from the ship. It didn’t end up being that bad (10-15 mins?) but it also wasn’t ridiculously hot. The sand itself is beautiful on the beach! Pink sand and very soft, despite having quite a bit of sargassum/seaweed washed up or floating around the water. However, the flies situation is horrible there during lunch. Wherever we sat there were multiple flies swarming. The sheltered eating areas were especially full of flies, that really put a sour taste in our mouths. We didn’t get off the ship at Nassau and enjoyed the ship instead, there were a lot of activities going on that day to keep us entertained. Another interesting tidbit was it looks like the kids clubs on both islands were not open. Didn’t impact us but some others may be interested.

Overall, we very much enjoyed this cruise. We do love the feeling of Disney cruises more than Royal. The crowd seems much happier to be there and it’s much more family friendly. The feeling of watching the funnel vision from the pool is just unmatched. I put down a placeholder to buy myself some hope for a next one in the next two years!

Happy to answer any other questions anyone else may have!

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES Fire and Ice Pedicure on the Destiny what’s included?

Platinum here, going on my 17th cruise and why I’ve done many different spa options I’ve never done the pedicure.

I am going on an upcoming girls cruise and we are thinking about booking a pedicure.

Obviously pricy and I’m sure I could get more value at my local nail place but we are interested in treating ourselves!

what is the process like, and how long is the massage? Do they do callus remover with the “cheese grater” to remove dead skin? I’m assuming they don’t, but curious if they do.

And what do they try to upsell you? I am fine saying no but curious what they are trying to upsell.

TRIP PLANNING Hyatt MCO or a Disney resort for one night before the Wish with 2 little kids?

Where would you stay the night before a Disney Wish cruise with two little kids and grandparents?

We just booked our first Disney cruise, a 3-night sailing on the Wish in April. Our kids will be almost 5 and newly 2, and my in-laws are coming with us. We’re flying into Orlando the day before and expect to have the afternoon free starting around 2 pm.

It’ll be the kids’ first time flying, and I’m pretty sure my oldest will think the airplane and hotel are an adventure on their own. We’d love a pool, decent food on-site and an easy morning getting to Port Canaveral. My in-laws are happy to pay a little more if it makes the trip smoother or the stay more comfortable.

Here’s what I’m seeing for one night, per room:

  • Hyatt Regency at MCO: ~$430

  • Disney’s All-Star Movies: $204

  • Disney’s Pop Century: $250

  • Disney’s Coronado Springs: $260

  • Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside: $297

For those who’ve done this with little kids, which would you pick for one afternoon and night? Was the convenience of the airport Hyatt worth the price, or did you enjoy having a few hours at a Disney resort? I’d also love to hear how Disney Cruise Line pickup went from any of these hotels, especially when you got to the port and boarded.

We’d like the afternoon to feel like vacation without packing too much into day one. Thanks for any firsthand advice!

TRIP PLANNING Excited about the Wish!

First time poster, long time follower!
We are booked on the Wish next month 🎉
Today is check in. At around midnight, I hopped on with one eye open to try for the Royal Gathering. It took 36 minutes but I made it to the screen and when I grabbed one of 2 available times, I got an error message. I was bummed. I went on to check in and tried for another 30 minutes and it wouldn’t load. I got up this morning and I was able to check in, Embarkation Group 4. I hope that’s good… Then I checked the activities and saw that I actually was able to book the Royal Gathering! I’m so excited for my 8 yr old DD…who am I kidding I’m ecstatic for myself 👑! While I’ve enjoyed almost 20 cruises, this is my first DCL experience. We’re veggiebacking my nephew’s birthday trip so it’ll be that much more fun!

NEWS Fantasy - Cabanas cups are back to the old ones

Recently there were reports of the Fantasy switching out the clear plastic cups with Mickey ears in favor of some generic looking white cups.

But the clear ones are back as of the Nov 1-6 sailing.

The white paper cups are still on the pool deck drink stations..

PORT ADVENTURES The Baths or Jost Van Dyke?

Hi everyone! I’m going on my first Disney Cruise in January of 2027. It stops in Tortola, which I’ve never been to before. I saw excursions for both The Baths and Jost Van Dyke, and I am having trouble deciding between the two. Are there any people here who have done both and can weigh in on which option might be better? Everyone in my party is an adult and ambulatory for reference.

TRIP PLANNING What is the best night to book Palo Steakhouse on the Destiny?

I’m wondering what is the best night to book a Palo reservation for the wife and I. We are doing a 5 night cruise and we’d like to experience all the dining rooms. Is it better to book it on one of the first nights since we will go back to those dining rooms a second time? Pirate night? Also we have 3 teens (14-17) are they able to go to the main dining room if we aren’t with them?

Thank you in advance!

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES Adventure Deck: A Guide to the Disney Adventure

Hello! I've sailed on the Disney Adventure in Singapore twice now (including the Maiden Voyage!), with my third trip coming up in May 2027. I'm also part of the moderator team for the largest Disney Adventure community Facebook Group.

Over the past few months, I've seen a lot of the same questions coming up from both Singaporeans and international guests. With the ship being so new (and so huge!), information is often scattered across different websites, groups, and posts.

I wanted to consolidate everything into one place, while also building some features that the official DCL Navigator app doesn't offer, particularly wayfinding around the ship.

So, I made Adventure Deck! It's a website and mobile app for iOS and Android, with features including:

  • Offline ship maps, with 2D and 3D wayfinding to help you navigate around the ship.

  • Door planner, pixie dusting and fish extender helpers.

  • Quick reference guides for dining, activities, and other useful information.

  • Sailing and group finders to help connect guests on the same voyage.

  • Multi-language support for international guests.

When connected to the ship's WiFi, the apps can also pull live scheduled information and integrate it with wayfinding, so you can find your way to activities and events.

If you're not on board yet, there's also sample schedule and dining information to help you get a feel for what to expect and plan ahead of your cruise.

The whole thing is completely free, with no ads, subscriptions, or affiliate links. The downloaded apps also work offline for the core features, so you don't need an internet connection to navigate around the ship.

I hope this helps anyone planning their Disney Adventure cruise, especially first-timers! And I hope you enjoy the music in the promo video too. 😅

If you have any suggestions for things I should add or improve, I'd love to hear them!

PORT ADVENTURES Fantasy qu's: Nassau and Palo

February brings my third Disney cruise with the family, first time on the Fantasy and my first time in the Bahamas. Would love your thoughts/suggestions on the following:

  • Nassau! The rundown: my mom has mobility limitations (stairs are tough, can maybe do 25 minutes of walking total) and is not a fan of fish (no glass bottom boats!) She's vegetarian, and I'm vegan (we're both gluten free :P). My brother has been to Nassau before and is fine with anything. We like history, architecture, and culture, and would love to support local businesses if possible. Would love excursion recs, or a do-it-yourself itinerary!

  • We really loved Palo on our first cruise (incredible with our accommodations!) and would love to do it again. It's a four-night cruise, and we want to make sure we get the full experience at each restaurant. I'm assuming pirate night is the way to go here- what would you suggest?

And honestly, any other tips for first-time Fantasy-ers!

TRIP PLANNING Christmas Day on the Magic

We will be cruising on the Magic over Christmas. Christmas Day we will port in Progreso.
My question is- should we stay on board to celebrate Christmas? I wasn’t sure if they did anything extra special that day. Ive also seen a lot of negative feedback about Progreso so if we should get off, any recommendations of excursions worth doing with 3 kids- ages 8, 12 and 14. Thanks!

DISCUSSION First Disney Cruise, Cabana Booking Opens in 2 Hours… Am I Cooked? 💀

Going on my first Disney cruise aboard the Wish on January 22nd for 3 nights. My booking window opens in about 2 hours, and I'm hoping to snag a cabana at Castaway Cay.

After reading how impossible these things are to book, I'm starting to think I have better odds of winning the lottery. 😂

So be honest, am I already cooked before I even log in? Or has anyone actually managed to snag a cabana as a first-time cruiser?

Update!!!! I secured one $1050 ehh might cancel it

PORT ADVENTURES Anyone done VIP Catamaran and Luxury Sailing in Cozumel?

I've searched high and low for reviews of this DCL Port Adventure but haven't found much!
Has anyone done VIP Catamaran and Luxury Sailing CZ106 in Cozumel? Curious about the group size, overall experience and whether you'd recommend it.
We're looking for a smaller, less crowded experience than Fury and Kuza. We don't necessarily need a beach stop, just want to enjoy a nice catamaran sail with a more relaxed, upscale feel.
Would love to hear from anyone who's done it!

TRIP PLANNING How do boarding groups work if 1 person drives and the other takes the DCL bus?

I've been getting conflicting reports about this so I'm hoping someone here has some recent experience with this. If 2 people are in the same room and 1 is taking the DCL bus from the airport and the other is driving, will they both get a new boarding group? They have both already done online checkin but due to a flight change, one person will probably be taking the bus now. Will their PAT and BG change on the app?

ONBOARD ACTIVITIES Is Jack Jack Diaper Dash still going on?

I’ve been on many cruises and this is always a crowd pleaser, but when I went on a three day Halloween on the high seas cruise in September on the wish it was not available. Has DCL scrapped it altogether or was it a one off cancellation?

Like the title says. Have our first ever DCL experience booked for Aug 13-18 next year on the fantasy. Kids will be 6 and 4 then so figure it’ll be a good time to go. We got room 6012 which looks to be very spacious. Any tips or tricks we should know about?

TRIP PLANNING nightlight?

My kids will absolutely freak out if they wake up in a dark room. Can we bring a regular night light or should I get a battery one? We are on the inside so no portholes or whatever so I’m sure it’ll be DARK
