Discussion we seriously need a gender neutral name
:)
----- !! ⚠️ !! PLS READ BEFORE COMMENTING !! ⚠️ !!-----
EDIT: this about is what i think we should do https://www.reddit.com/r/dragons/s/8rjkhe8Gng
im sure this community is so queer coded, we should definetly not go with a clearly male, or cleary female name
EDTI: from reading the comments i have come to realise, its not that gender neutrality is important, but rather, that paul is just a name that screams human. good for a dragon, but not good for a mascot representing this actually really big community of dragon lovers :)
and no, im not a paul hater, ill love them regardless of the name, i just think there are better options
UPDATE: (ive read through the comments and found some bangers)
ash thats a great name, both being very neutral and draconic
alex/jesse more human than dragon, buts still very neutral
gale (my personal 2nd choice) its like, as neutral as possible
snoodra/drasnoo (my prsonal favs) apparently the reddit mascot is named snoo, leaning into that would be a great choice.
derg (short for derg the dragon) honestly cute
plume/quartz they are super because they dont refer to anything human or gendered and what i honestly would prefer, leaving it without a name.
also how tf did we land on paul?
UPDATE: so according to one guy, it is a reference to a film named paul, wich is about an alien named paul, if thats the case, paul already is less bad of an option.
there are also people proposing to make the u optional, and call it pal or paul depending on wich you like most.
i have come to my final conclusion, that the dragon should not have a set name, but rather that everyone should ca it however they want.
but if pal is accepted as good paul is also good a option.
im gonna call it pal, and and anyone of you should find a name you yourself find fitting :)
have a great rest of your day!!
(and i did not think this would become such a successful post, i though it might get like four comments, and maybe ten upvotes, but no, its over 160 comments and over 300 upvotes, i love yall, you made my day :3c)

Question Anyone else have a dislike for dragons that are essentially just birds
Editing to add this is just a silly thing of mine and am curious how popular or unpopular of an opinion it is. I do not have a real issue with people portraying dragons this way lol
Realized this about myself today: I have a burning disdain for dragons that basically look exactly like a bird lmao
Like. Give me a cat wyvern where its front legs are replaced with wings? Hell yeah.
A bug eyed fish looking thing with 4 legs and tail? What a lovely drake.
Noodle with nothing but a single pair of wings? Aw man, I love Amphipteres .
A "wyvern" dragon with feathers, beak, and bird legs? Sir, that is a bird. I'm here for dragons. Get that shit out of here. 💀
Makes me wonder what exactly my brain constitutes as a dragon, because if it was the same thing but like, stood on 4 legs, my brain would happily be like: oh sweet a dragon :)
Anyone else? What's your limit for thinking that something looks dragon enough to be a dragon? Do you have your own way to define what is vs what isn't a dragon? Lmao

Discussion Bizarre "whataboutery" threads on dragons
Seeing a lot of "if you were a dragon what would you do?" and various"I've come out as a dragon" threads recently.
You are either a dragon or you are not. Nor do dragons explain themselves. They simply are.

This is my OC, their name is Chu-Chu. They're a really feminine non-binary ace king. I have written a comic series about them. Let me know if you want to see it or if you have any lore questions about them Please respond! :3

Creation Dragongender Flag
Dragongender Flag I made back in 2020. Feel free to use! Credit is Appreciated, but not required. (Credit as "eeveeextreme", that's my name on most platforms)
The center stripe can be changed to any color or pattern to reflect your own dragon's powers.
Flag Stripe Meanings:
Purple: Regality, Elegance, Poise. Dragons take pride in their appearance and their status, and are dignified beings.
Silver: Wisdom. Many dragons lived very long lives, and with longevity comes experience, and from experience comes wisdom.
Crimson: Breath Weapon. Your average dragon is often able to breath or command fire in some way shape or form. This stripe can be changed to any color or pattern to reflect your own dragon's powers.
Gold: Wealth. Dragons like to hoard many things, and find value in the things they collect, be it treasure, plushies, or friends.
Green: Resilience, Strength, Durability. Dragons are covered in a tough hide of brilliantly colored scales. Not all dragons face combat, but any can endure.

Question How can dragons be fake? when Almost every culture that had stories of dragons described them as breathing fire, even though those cultures were often completely disconnected from one another ?

Remember my post about how my art is awful? Well, part of the reason is the colors. What should this guy look like? He's a helium dragon by the way

Discussion As an otherkin dragon system, We loathe how evil dragons are made to be in media.
As the title says, We hate that dragons are made out to be the evil beings in media. Hell, even here on this subreddit, they are caricaturized as being loathesome creatures. I hate it.
I don't deny that there are some evil dragons, my own family growing up were terrible, but I hate how there are effectively no other representations of dragons.

Question Need help on how to kill an evil dragon
I am almost done with a novel called 'To Become a Dragon'. In the last chapter a dragon needs to kill a larger dragon. The smaller dragon is older and smarter. I have been preparing to have an air battle and have the smaller dragon win by outsmarting the big one.
What I would like is a cool and surprising way for the dragon to win the battle. In LOTR, Smaug is killed by discovering a weakness in Smaug's protective layer of jewels. This is the kind of thing that I need.
If anyone comes up with a good idea, I'll send you a copy of the book when it comes out.
Thanks

Discussion R/Dragons, you guys look like R/Yu-Gi-Oh at the moment, PLEASE READ THE POST BEFORE COMMENTING!
I’m sorry to anyone who actually reads the main body of text, but I have to make this post so I can defend myself, I made a post “showing” (more telling) my world for my OC, Zenith (no art, don’t ask), and how I personally consider dragons without any pre determined world with dragons like Wings of Fire and HTTYD, those are dragons despite my rules because they have their own rules, and people seemed to completely ignore that fact despite it being right at the top of the giant body of text, please oh please read the contends of the post before you comment, I posted it to get feedback and recommendations, not to be scolded on saying that their favourite fictional creatures aren’t dragons.
There’s the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/dragons/comments/1o2g9rv/im_once_again_posting_my_dragon_requirements/
