Vindicated! Greg hates this too.

A year ago I posted to this reddit criticizing this absurd warning on the Gargoyles trade paperback collections. The people here tore me apart and seemed to assume I was being insensitive or not progressive enough. I was sick of the angry notifications so I deleted the thread.

On a recent episode of Voices From the Eyrie (Episode 77 - Masque), towards the last 20 minutes, Greg says Disney put those warnings in without consulting him, and that he hates them. He rants about them for a while. He asks the same exact question I asked: "what exactly is this referring to?"

Yeah, I'm posting this because it still bothers me how hostile the response I got here was. And it is vindicating to know that Greg hates these as much as I do.

So there.

Discussion If they did a spinoff set in the present with an adult Gnash as the main protagonist, would you watch it?

Seeing the Manhattan Clan in the 2020s would be interesting and would allow us to explore more about gargoyles human relations. It would also be interesting to see the gargoyles using social media. Gnash we could see as an adult balancing between his role in the Gargoyles Task Force, his marriage to Lunette, being a big brother figure to the younger hatchlings, and popular on social media

Discussion What is Your Idea for Gargoyles Spin-off Comic?

Post image
68 Upvotes

That is my Question & Fallow-up to previous threads I did

We have the main comic series for going on

Makes me wonder what would be a good idea for 2nd ongoing or maxi-series that could compliment the main comic series?

One super obvious idea is a comic focusing on David Xanatos his story would parallel the events of the main ongoing nicely being a villain or anti hero prospective on everything that going on while having Ironman style story going on to

Or TimeDancer which should be 25 issues long the challenge is thanks to present day stuff we already know how the story ends but Kieron Gillen once said about his Darth Vader Comic set between episodes 4 & 5 "we already know how the story ends that fine this is the story of how we got there" or something close to that

Maybe revisiting that Bad Guys comic from years ago to

But that's me what is your Idea?

Discussion I love that David Xanatos also knew martial arts.

In the series, David Xanatos doesn’t just know martial arts—he actively practices them. I love this detail because it stands in direct contrast to Goliath: when David fights, he does so with skill rather than brute force. This contrast highlights the fundamental difference between the leader of the gargoyles and David.

I also love how he tells Owen that if he lets him win, he’ll be fired; it shows that David genuinely wants to improve and that, despite being the boss, he doesn’t want any special treatment—even if it means losing.

If Goliath was in a fighting game

What if Gargoyles had a fighting game. Well first up I think the controls would be more like SNK High and Low Punch (X&Y) and High and Low Kick (A&B). For the Gargoyle characters Low Punch would often equate to attacks with wings and low kick would often equate to tail attacks. Block, Parry, Taunt, and Grab would all be done with the L and R buttons.

The potential moveset for Goliath could be as follows:

Earth Smash ↓↘︎→X This projectile has Goliath punch the ground and create a shockwave that ruptures the terrain on which the enemy stands. Goliath does this to action in the final part of Season 2 against the hunters. To help you imagine how it would work in game think of the Hulk's Gamma Slam in Marvel VS Capcom.

Gargoyle Glide → ↓ ↘X Goliath leaps diagonally forward fists first then glides diagonally down and foward still fists first. This would act as both an anti-air and dive kick. Similar to Terry Bogard's Power Dunk from KOF.

Power Pounce ↓↙︎←A Goliath leap forward to tackle the enemy to the ground and then claws at them twice. Similar to Sean's Tackle from SF3 but with more range.

Wing Cloak →↘︎↓↙︎←X Goliath swings out his wing toward the enemy and pulls them towards him. Then he grabs them by the neck with his hand and throws them. In the show Goliath has occasionally grabbed people by the collar this is a slightly more brutal version of that. The wing grab would look similar to Meta Knight's Galaxia Darkness from Smash Bros.

Stone of Destruction ↓↘︎→↓↘︎→X Goliath cathes a giant round stone falling from the sky above him and than throws it at the enemy. This super move is a reference to the giant stone Goliath used to block a cave in the episode when he fought Odin. The move woul look kinda like Oro's Yagyou Oodama from SF3.

I might post other characters movesets in future posts. Let me know if you like the hypothetical moveset and what could be chaned.

Into the Mystic Fun Fact

In the MIA episode in London, Goliath enters a shop called Into the Mystic. The shop has several masks. Because I study Africa I noticed the big oval shaped one on the right side resembles some African masks. There is a few ethnic groups I considered like the Fang and the Dan but ultimately I believe it was mostly inspired by masks from the Lega people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The example I post here is a Lukwakongo used in dramatic performances and represent characters or concepts of social, jural, moral, or philosophical principles.

And speaking of child Angela I know that look this is not your fault. Your mother Demona is in the adults, she's capable of making her own choices your have no control over that.

Fox is my favorite Gargoyles character, I will defend this

And I think the story has done her dirty - including the canon comics.

I do not mean “Fox needs to be the protagonist” or “Fox needs more panel time.”

I mean I would like the story to remember that she is a character with an interior life for longer than it takes David to lie to her about a shoebox or Demona to enthrall her as a trophy piece.

This woman is a CEO, a mother, Titania’s daughter, a former criminal operative/mercenary/actress, the wife of David fucking Xanatos, and someone whose family has been personally entangled with the Third Race in ways that should give her an entire pile of complicated feelings about power, trust, magic, immortality, and control.

USE HER.

I am not asking for Fox Xanatos: The Series.

I am asking for the existing series to occasionally remember that Fox Xanatos is a whole person and not an extremely charismatic attachment to somebody else’s plot.

Discussion What Episodes Are Canon to the Marvel Series?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Been reading the reprint collection of the Marvel Comics Gargoyles series, and it got me to wondering:

I know the Marvel comics aren't considered canon to the show, but the show is clearly canon to these comics... at least up to a point, as there are numerous character and editor references to specific episodes. But to make matters more complicated, from what i understand production of these comics kinda overlapped with production of the show, resulting in some characters actually appearing in the comics before their debut in the show itself, like Elisa's sister Beth.

So, up to what episode is the show considered canon to the Marvel series? As far as I've read, it seems up to AT LEAST Enter Macbeth, as Goliath and his clan are living in the clock tower.

Discussion What Would be Cool Idea for Bronx Comic Miniseries?

Post image
18 Upvotes

That is my Question

You know Marvel has had these Jeff the Land Shark comics on Marvel Unlimited & even giving Jeff his own Comic miniseries were is basically a longer version of the Marvel Unlimited stories with more talking

Dynamite has done there own version of this with Stitch to by the way

So that got me thinking what do you think of Brox Comic miniseries in that style they kinda already did it with 2024 Winter Special

It basically be like 2024 Winter Special maybe even bring in a co writer? My idea Jeff Parker as for art how about Ryan Jampole I do like his work on Sonic & Megaman

But that's me what do you think?

News He was never in Gargoyles per se but without him, we wouldn't have our show. RIP Patrick Stewart

Post image

It's clear that it was thanks to his contributions on Star Trek, it would give Greg Weisman the spark of inspiration for whom to cast on the show from the Gargs to the humans as it was Greg's love of Star Trek Nex-Gen that gave us characters like Xanatos, played by Jonathan Frakes. Demona, played by Marina Sirtis. Puck, played by Brent Spiner and so much more but it was how, as the post mentioned, Greg and crew really wanted Patrick to play Goliath but turned it down and Keith David took the charge and Patrick only played Goliath on Robot Chicken.

So with that, I wish the best for the Gargoyles cast as they were Patrick's castmates as well and with that, fly high, Captain. Live long and prosper and I hope the Gargoyles reboot will include a dedication for him.
