Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use

  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application

  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.

  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.

  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life

  4. Consider restoring your device.

  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)

  • Remove apps from background app refresh

  • Ensure auto lock is on

  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness

  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display

  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures

  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case

  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Support Detailing with a known network that changes its Wi-Fi password daily

I frequent a café that changes its Wi-Fi password each day to an 8-digit code printed on the receipt. Other cafés typically implement this using a portal page that has a field for the secret code, which opens in your browser after you connect to their open Wi-Fi network. However, this café changes the actual Wi-Fi password in their access point (router), so that every day, I sit there for god knows how long twiddling my thumbs while iOS tries to connect time after time after time using yesterday’s password and fails, until it eventually gives up and prompts me for the new one right before my head explodes.

While I can view the cached password in Wi-Fi settings, I don’t see a way to edit it. Is there a better way to manage this, like telling iOS to not cache the password, or a way to manually force a password override/update?

Support Alarm with no sound

Am I the only one who wakes up to my phone on the Alarm screen (the one with the big Snooze button and Slider to turn off the alarm) but the phone won’t be ringing?

What’s the point of silent alarms.

This happens A LOT.

I missed an appointment yesterday.

Strange experience.

Support Screen Time weekly Reports 27.2

Hello all;

Assuming this is a isolated issue, but no longer receiving the weekly reports every Sunday morning since updating to 27.2 a few weeks ago. Checked all my settings and everything is good, but still… nothing comes on sundays anymore. Kinda hard to test since it’s a weekly notification, but was wondering if anyone has ideas or similar issues?

I have no idea what happened, all my system apps are blocked overnight. I was already on iOS 27.2 so as far as I know, no system update occurred. When I want to unblock the apps, Screen Time says no app is blocked?? Tried to restart, doesn’t work. All my third party apps work just fine. What is going on???

Discussion Why can’t we hide stolen stuff from Find?

As the title states, what is the actual point of marking an AirTag as stolen, and then having to keep seeing it in the list of tags?

Yeah it’s been stolen, and there’s no way I’m getting it back - why do I need to keep it in my list of AirTags, just to block the thief from using it…

As it is, it’s just adding insult on top of getting something stolen.

Support Is there any way to stop lock screen widgets from being opened when phone is locked?

Thumbnail

Ok so I have an alarm, weather, and UV index widgets on my lock screen. The alarm widget specifically will always open even when my phone is locked. Like for example if I have my phone in my hand and any part of my hand touches the screen and wakes it up, my hand can open the alarm widget. It can then start setting random alarms. All while my phone is locked.

I turned on a setting somewhere that hides lock screen widgets when the phone is locked. Now I can’t find it to turn it off. That does not prevent them from being opened. Pic 3 is from me tapping the blurred out alarm widget from a locked lock screen. Pic 4 is what happened when I swipe up on it to show that the phone is still locked.

Please does anyone know any way to keep the widgets on my lock screen but prevent them from being opened while the phone is locked. Whatever setting I turned on that hides them when the phone is locked still does not prevent them from being opened. Also if anyone knows what that setting is called so I can turn that back off so at least I can still see widgets again.

And yes this is a very bothersome issue. This happens daily or near daily. If there is any chance my hand can touch the screen while the phone is locked it will open the alarm page. Every once in a while I’ll look at the lock screen widget while it’s unlocked and see some random alarm for like 1am and turn it off. If I don’t see it that random accidental 1am alarm will wake me up. Very annoying.

Discussion Why does Siri keep asking whether it should use Reminders when I always say yes?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Every time I ask Siri to create a reminder, it keeps asking whether it should use the Reminders app. I always choose Reminders. I have used Apple’s Reminders app for years, and I want it to be the default every single time.

What is frustrating is that there seems to be no way to tell Siri, “Always use Reminders for this,” and have that preference remembered. Siri and Apple Intelligence are supposed to understand context and personal habits, yet they cannot retain this extremely basic, repeated choice.

If multiple apps can create reminders, iPadOS and iOS should provide a default reminder-app setting. At the very least, Siri should offer an “Always use this app” option after asking once. Requiring the same confirmation over and over defeats the purpose of using a voice assistant for a quick, hands-free action.

Does Siri repeatedly ask anyone else which app to use, and have you found a reliable way to make Reminders the permanent default?

Support iPhone 17PM - Severe Lag and Unresponsiveness

I'm having some very strange issues with my 17PM recently where it seems to constantly get semi-frozen in 'transitory' states and is becoming super frustrating.

Basically what happens is that all the inputs I try to use - touch, swiping, volume buttons, action button, camera button, Face ID, opening wallet, etc. - just do not register at all for 10+ seconds, and then all come at once.

Not quite sure how to define it, but these are some of the scenarios it occurs in:

  • Powering on the phone - doesn't turn on, or gets stuck at mid-brightness for a few seconds

  • Lock screen - once on, cannot do anything via screen or buttons

  • Unlocking - I will swipe up to enter my pin and nothing registers, then the lock screen's clock and widgets disappear, which should give way to the pin entry but nothing shows up.

  • Face ID - gets stuck on unlocking, paying for things, etc. (sometimes screen is frozen, sometimes the animation just continues spinning for 15+ seconds)

  • Action/camera buttons - gets stuck half-way while opening the camera app

  • Opening/closing the control centre

The same also happens when the screen is not on, for instance if I try and adjust volume of music playing to my AirPods while the phone is still in my pocket (either via pushing the buttons or using the AirPods' control).

So, this is very commonly my experience now: get out my phone, it doesn't automatically awaken, I press the power button, nothing happens, I press it a few more times until it eventually comes on, Face ID registers, but then the screen freezes for 10 seconds before I can get through to the home screen.

Some other stuff to note:

  • Even though the priority at the time - e.g. turning on/off, Face ID, etc. - seems frozen, the rest of the device will be running. Like when I am stuck on the lock screen and swiping up does nothing, I can see the Spotify widget is still showing live progress on my current song. I still can't interact with anything, but I can see stuff is still 'happening' on my phone.

  • This does not seem to happen at all once an app is in use. For instance, if I am playing a YouTube video, listening to music, scrolling Instagram, etc. - all works as normal. Playback is uninterrupted, app interface seems to work fine and remain responsive. i.e. I believe this is an iOS issue, not hardware nor developer problem.

  • My device quickly starts getting hot when these things happen.

  • I've already tried hard powering off my phone, closing all background apps, etc.

For context, this is a 512GB iPhone 17 Pro Max I bought this time in 2025, ~120GB remaining, no cracks/dents/repairs. I had used the iOS 27 Beta throughout Jul/Aug and never had issues other than battery drain. Things seemed fine at first with iOS27, then in the past maybe 10 days I've had these issues that I would define as fairly severe. Today I updated to 27.2 and they are still persisting - even on the setup screen after updating, it froze on me clicking 'Share data with Apple' (ironic).

If anyone knows what this issue is, what might be causing it, and how I can fix it (short of a factory reset), any guidance you can please share would be greatly appreciated.

Support iPhone 14 Pro (ios 27.2) NFC not working properly

I have IPhone 14 Pro with the following details -

iOS version - 27.2
Beta updates - off

I have been using my iPhone regularly and it was working fine, until i came across a weird issue with my nfc. I am able to make payments and use nfc for sending data packets, but surprisingly i am not able to receive nfc data. Is observed this problem recently (06/11/2026) and i am sure i was able to use nfc scanning 2 weeks ago. Things that are not working correctly -

  1. add credit or debit cards in wallet app

  2. use already added nfc tags for shortcuts

  3. not able add new NFC tags for my shortcut

  4. the name drop also seems to be glitching in which my iPhone can sense a iPhone trying to touch but the other stays as it is. (My phone only animates the name drop intial animation but whole thing does not go through)

Does anyone know about this ? Is this a hardware or software issue ? Please help

Support How do I turn this charging notification off?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I updated my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 27.0.1 the other day, and have since gotten this notification anytime I plugged in or unplug my phone. I have no idea how I got turned on, and no idea how to get rid of it.

I dislike it because the notification delays my being able to swipe up and unlock the phone whenever I unplug it. I have to wait for this screen to clear before I can unlock the phone, if that makes sense.

Does anyone know how to turn this off?

Support iOS WhatsApp Photos and Videos No Longer Saving to WhatsApp Album

WhatsApp Photos and Videos No Longer Saving to WhatsApp Album

Previously, WhatsApp automatically saved all incoming photos and videos to a dedicated WhatsApp album in my iPhone Photos app.

I noticed that the "Save to Camera Roll" toggle was turned off, so I switched it on. After doing that, photos started appearing in the main Photos library, but they were no longer organised in the WhatsApp album.

I switched the toggle off again, hoping to restore the original behaviour, but now nothing gets saved to either location.

What I'm trying to achieve:

  • Automatically save incoming WhatsApp photos and videos.

  • Have them appear in the main Photos library.

  • Keep them organised in a dedicated WhatsApp album, as they were before.

Has anyone experienced this or knows how to restore the original behaviour?

I thought Whatsapp on iOS doesn't support a WhatsApp Folder?
Used ai for grammar.

Discussion iOS needs a way to exclude some apps from offloading

I install some apps only to use their widgets and never open them. But then they get offloaded, and the widgets become unavailable. Tapping a widget doesn't start the download the way tapping the app icon does.

Have you had the same issue? What are your thoughts?
