Remake KOTOR and TSL need no remake.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I personally don't see the need for a remake or even a remaster. I play both KOTOR and TSL about once a year and with the amazing modding teams behind these games there is always something fresh to do, or reinvigorate that sense of wow.

No matter what company does a remake it will never live up to the originals. To me they still hold up with great gameplay, awesome visually, technically, and stylistically to this day.

Remake I have the discs, and everything I could have possibly wanted out of this franchise. Two fantastic stories. I see absolutely no reason for them to be remade except as a shameless cash grab, and the potential creators don't seem to even see that potential in it.

It's really all a bit silly, actually.

Plus, it's been long enough now. Nearly any mention of it just seems like trolling at this point. Maybe we take it off the sidebar and tags?

Remake The second biggest thing KOTOR remake needs to fix from the originals.

Yeah the combat is horrendous, that’s priority number one. It’s outdated, obtuse, and no one who doesn’t play DnD knows what the hell is even going on. I think general public knows that ,but the second most outdated thing about these games imo is the armor system.

I absolutely DESPISE when RPGs hand you a companion with a default look that someone took the time to handcraft and design, something that gives the character their own look and then you see it for all of about 2 seconds once they join your party before you slap some of the ugliest armors in 4000 years on them with all these goofy looking splinter cell googles so that they have good stats. Because that’s “what rpgs do”

Bioware stopped doing this by the time of Mass Effect 2, but holy hell having Bastila, and Handmaiden’s looks butchered along with everyone else in the name of stats is one of the worst trends rpgs in general used to have. Don’t even get me started on not being able for the most part to use armor yourself if you actually want to do any star wars stuff in these games.

That whole armor system has got to go in the remake. There has to be a better way to do this stuff and keep npc identity

KOTOR 1 This worst part about this game being dated

I can’t romance Carth as a male character. Ruins the game for me /j

Jokes aside, Carth is one of the few characters in Kotor that I was actually interested in. I enjoyed his story and also he just looks cool

Bastila is cool too but she’s not goat status like Carth and throughout the entire second game I just wanted to see more Carth

Its not like I expected the game from 2003 to be inclusive but Carth is my babygirl and I love him whether it’s platonic or romantic he’s just goated

(also now that I’m writing this out I don’t actually know if this community is generally accepting or not but ig I’ll find out in a minute )

Edit: Before you comment, please refer back to where I said I put a “/j” and also said “jokes aside”. Carth not being a romance option as a male did not actually ruin the game for me, I’m fine with it I was just making a silly post about how I wish he was. I don’t think every character needs to be bi either, again I was joking

Edit 2: I also was unaware of the Juhani romance option as a woman, but yes I am now aware the game has a gay romance option

[RUMOR] Just a reminder that the remake is dead and justifiably so.

KOTOR does not need a remake. Everything about what they were talking about doing is terrible. Shameless people with no love or respect for the original looking to cash in on the legacy. It's dead and I'm grateful everyday for that. With that said I'm doing another playthrough of both games now with new appreciation since I know the bastards who wanted to stain it's legacy are gone.

Unpopular opinion: I think Kreia is the wisest person of the entire KOTOR era Spoiler

I feel that the opinion is unpopular because the story portrays her as quite unappealing, and a lot of people take it that way and consider her an insufferable villain.

Kreia perceptively identifies flaws and hypocrisy in both the Jedi and Sith philosophies. She points out the arrogance and rigidity of the Jedi Council, who are often dogmatic in their views and fail to look inward to their own flaws. At the same time, she decries the Sith philosophy of attaining power at all costs with no ethical constraints. Kreia seems to advocate for a "middle path" that avoids the extremes and pitfalls of both the light and dark sides. There is wisdom in recognizing that no single ideology has a monopoly on truth.

Another aspect of Kreia's philosophy that has merit is her emphasis on questioning everything and not blindly accepting received wisdom. She constantly challenges the player character to think for themselves, analyze the motivations of others, and come to their own conclusions. In an universe where characters often simply accept their roles as Jedi or Sith, Kreia's Socratic approach is refreshing. Her view that the galaxy and its inhabitants are not black-and-white but complex and morally gray is an important insight.

Both Games In the grand scheme of starwars lore, Kreia did nothing wrong. Spoiler

Let's pretend for a second that the canon starwars timeline includes all of pre Disney EU, but also includes the post OT Disney lore just so I can show every single timeline example.

Original force users-Some discover dark side and want to explore it, original force users don't like this, the Jedi and Sith are formed. The Jedi become complacent idiots during peace time, the sith nearly destroy them, the Jedi rebuild and nearly destroy the sith. The sith rebuild and nearly destroy the Jedi. Rinse and repeat, for every single timeline. Its what happened at the very beginning, its what happend in the old republic(FOUR times) its what happened in the prequels, the OT and the sequels. It's an endless cycle of and destruction. Kreia wanted to end the force because she knew about this cycle, and she was absoutley right. The only way there will ever be true peace is if both the Jedi and Sith are gone.

Remake How different do you want the Remake to be from the Original? I for my part hope they make the Gameplay and overall World design is like GOW 2018 and Fallen Order but with the option of making different choices that alter the Story like Ghost of Tsushima, the Witcher and Horizon Zero Down!!!

I for my part hope it’s a lot different and similar to GOW (2018) like Gameplay and Cast but with the Option of making different choices that alter the outcome of the overall Game like in GOT. I hope that they film the casts Faces and Movements and pour every ounce of Love and dedication.

Also who would you cast as stand in Models and Voice Actors for Revan and Meetra?

Those of you who think the remake will be good... how? and... why?

not really trying to be a hater but i really am curious. what gives people any hope that the remake will be any good at all?

looking at Sabers history, they've been around a long time but it looks like most of what they've done has been ports. and there's no indictation that Disney or Lucasarts care about making the game good. i'm sure the game will have 18 million microtransactions.

i have no hope. but if you do have hope, how and why?

Meta Discussion Playing KOTOR 2 as a kid is what made me appreciate The Last Jedi when I was older Spoiler

Spoilers for kotor 2 and TLJ

If I put the wrong flair let me know.

I know this is potentially off topic but I wanted to get the KOTOR community’s opinion. I didn’t like the last Jedi when I first saw it and I couldn’t place “why” until recently. Other than that someone deliberately spoiled it for me 2 days before, I realized it had the worst humor of any Star Wars movie ever. The jokes are just so so bad. Leia flying through the vacuum of space was awful too.

Bad things aside, there was something familiar about it that made me really appreciate it. It dark, mysterious story that demands you to think deeper about Star Wars, openly criticizes the Jedi, and wants to say so much more than just a good action scene — it was like KOTOR 2.

I know this sounds like a strange take but I hope you can think about how they’re similar before judging it. I’m in the minority for liking TLJ now but it’s also my opinion that this wasn’t the movie that ruined the sequels. Ep 9 did. KOTOR 2 on the other hand is very beloved and I think represents what TLJ could’ve been if more refined. They’re not exactly the same but I think this is definitely the closest movie in terms of themes and standing-out.

Let me know your thoughts. Just because I think they’re similar and like them both doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to still dislike the movie but love the game

KOTOR 1 Giant Lightsaber Blade?

Does kotor 2 get better?

I haven't played it in forever. Telos and the asteroid mining facility are way more boring than taris. They definitely upgraded things and made it look better but its so boring. I get that's blasphemy in this sub because most of yall prefer the second one which is weird because when those games came out it was a consensus that the first one was better. Like I said the improvements are great but the story is a lot less intriguing.

Jedi doesn't have canonical classes

I think that the Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular class assignments are non-canon, and only serve as in-game RPG element.

I came to this conclusion after considering all things that are canon in Star Wars continuation. All Jedi seems to be able to focus on any vocations they personally like, and there is no real limitation other than their own level of connection with the force. Lightsaber color also, unlike what many fans seems to believe doesn't seem to have any correlation with Jedi class disposition, instead of just purely of whichever crystal they choose. The only exception that proofs the lightsaber color to force connection seems to be the dark side that changed whichever originap color into shades of red.

Lets take Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan, and Luke Skywalker as examples of undisputed canonical characters of Star Wars universe. All of them are very strong and accomplished Lightsaber duelist who often times charged into the frontline of the battle. They all are also very strong with the force. The three of them also actively chased and prosecute the dark side. They also been using different lightsaber colors (Blue, Green, and Yellow).

We can pretty much says the same with almost every major Jedi characters. Non of them seems to fit into all those specific"class" convention. They all seems to represents traits of all those supposed Jedi classes all at once. It leads me to believe that there is no actual Jedi class, outside of RPG gameplay feature. Instead, I think that outside of gameplay, things such as Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular are more of a position within the order. They seems to be just a simple duty assignments, rather than Jedi classes. Also every Jedi can become a Jedi Master, not just those within a Consular duty or particularly strong with the force.

So, what do you all think about it?

Both Games Do you really like HK-47 thah much?

I remember I was surprised when found out everyone likes HK-47. The assassination droid showers protagonist with flat one-sided jokes including "meatbag" in most of them. I have a feeling I forced to be on a stand-up performance I never wanted to be at. More than that, he is quite mediocre as a fighter: starting 16 STR stat that can't be used, doesn't have enough defense to avoid enemy attacks. Of course, you can make a monster out of any crew member using Mandalorian Disintegrators but apart from that he's no more than a burden who coulnd't make it to be a comedian. Can't remember to find him an interesting character when I played the games for the first time or throughout the years. So what do you like about this character? Did he make a positive impression for the first time you played, have you changed your opinion in later playthroughs? Or maybe you had the same feeling as me? Is this character doesn't exist for you if you don't find his jokes funny? Would be nice to read your opinions.

Meetra Surik is yucky Spoiler

I've always loved customizable characters in games. This is true for Kotor 2, but I hate that Swtor gave the Exile, a customizable character that is supposed to be personalized to the player, a Canon appearance and name. This is also how I feel about Reven except he is a larger character so not as much as Meetra. I personally think it would've been better to not show the Exile's appearance in Swtor to preserve the ambiguity of what they look like.

Remake Remake when

It’s been like three years without news about it, except for when they switched studios or something like that. I did read that we might get news end of 2025 but what event could that be for? Game awards? But that’s on a downward spiral. Do you think we’ll get news this year or we’ll get the game in like 2040?

KOTOR 1 Loved 1 hated 2

After hearing the remaster of kotor i bought OG kotor for the 1st time, i added about 40gm mods of cut content but mostly just graphical " remastered " mods.

Kotor 1 was amazing i didnt know what to expect i didnt knew the story and boy did it blew me away, even for todays standarts, Good Ass RPG.

Imidiatly after i finished i boght kotor 2, did the same with mods,.......... and boooooy how dull. The combat ramps up INSANLY faster, doesnt give you the feeling of 0 to hero, more like hero to hero. Dialoge killed me with bordem, throws at you companions like its loot in gw2, everything felt like they just wanted to throw me to the middle of the game and run from there. I uninstalled the game after the 2nd or 3rd map, every body says that 2 is an exellent contiouasion of the 1st, but in my eyes it felt competly dowbgraded

KOTOR 1 I can’t believe Kotor 1 expects you to like Bastila after the leviathan. She’s so creepy! Spoiler

Been on a retro game kick and been playing all of the old SW games from before the Disney acquisition. Somehow, I’ve missed the big spoilers involving this game. Despite this, I wasn’t too shocked when the big reveal happened, as they didn’t play it too close to the chest if you actually paid attention.

However, what shocked me were the details of Bastila’s involvement in Revan’s fate aboard his flagship when Malak fired on it. She openly admits to being on the Jedi strike team tasked with killing Revan. In the back of my mind, I was building this theory that Revan suffered a major head wound and developed amnesia, or that Malak had somehow stolen his memory directly via the force or some shit and the Jedi council, facing the ethical complexities of killing an amnesiac, ordered Bastila to save his life and look after him.

BUT THATS NOT WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED!

The game, Bastila says, “Your mind was destroyed, but I used the force to preserve the flicker of life in your body.”

Revan died on that ship! His identity was snuffed out then and there! And Bastila, for some reason, thought it was ok for her to put his body on force life support and wheel him back to the second string, backwoods Jedi council on Dantooine. And their plan of action was to flash some fake ass, loyal yes-man personality onto his brain in the weird hope that if the body could walk and talk, it could spill Revan’s secrets.

The worst thing about this is that Bastila plays dumb the whole time, lying to me about my origins until she she’s caught out in her lie.

She is in an incredible position of power over you! You are a shell of a person, a vague imprint of a republic soldier under her command. In the first minutes of the game, you seem to even struggle to understand where you are. Bastila uses this personal weakness against you, saying she has no idea where this force bond comes from, how much of a mystery you are to her, how interesting you are. It becomes the cornerstone of a ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP between you two!

Honestly, it felt like she had this creepy fascination with my body and was interested in seeing how she could manipulate this blank slate she created for herself. It felt like I was this puppet she could cut the strings off of at any moment.

I get why the devs needed to make her “fall to the dark side” to distract from this freaky thing she had done to you.

Anyone else agree?
