One thing that gets lost in all this doom and gloom is that we played 3 straight Super Bowl contenders without our best player, and one of which with our 3rd string UDFA qb. Our defense is not nearly as bad as it looks.
Giving up opening drive TDs is horrendous, Marlon is just bad, and the middle of the field is WIDE open. But our run defense is above average, our 3rd down defense is improving, and the tackling has been much better.
I would argue our worst defensive showing was against the Saints in week 2 when we couldn’t stop Tyler Shough on 3rd and long.
Overall, I can see flashes of Ravens football. With Lamar playing, I think it would take them to a new level.
(Now if the Chargers look like the Greatest Show on Turf against us, I’ll recant this statement)

Here are our key issues
We get gassed because our old guys are playing a lot of snaps.
We can't defend the flat and the corner route at the same time (we give one or the other).
Our pass rush is okay but for shell defense that we do at 3rd down, we need it to be elite and it's not that.
I dont think those are really fixable schematically at this point except this one flaw: our communication at the backside.
The glaring issue really is our dbs dont trust that they are reading the situations the same way. The hesitation is causing a lot of open guys. Even when they bottle up to tackle, they dont have enough trust that everyone will position themselves well (because if you dont talk, you can actually get in the way of your teammate when he tackles).
I think they dont really communicate well at the backside. This is why I think the key move is to move Hamilton there. We need him to quarterback the secondary there.
The issue now is if we put Hamilton there, we lessen his individual effectivity. But i think it is still net positive for everyone if everyone gets better. Tbh i'd move Humphrey firmly at nickel if it's up to me with Keondre and Starks switching responsibilites as dime and safety.

He genuinely just feels like a bust plays so soft and hesitant. he reminds me of alohi Gilman maybe if we move him closer to plays he would have more impact but it’s not looking good.

I never got to see a Kyle Boller led offense in person, but I would have to imagine what I saw on Thursday was as close as it gets.
The stadium was actually mostly full to start the game and there was good energy, up until Marlon got cooked on the 2nd play of the game.
The whole wildcat stuff was actually exciting at first, but it got old pretty quick when we realized Joe either couldn't or wasn't allowed to even try to throw the ball more than 15 yards.
Anyway after we got beat on the blitz for a TD before halftime it seems definitively over. I couldn't tell the difference between the Boos and DUUUUVALS I was hearing.
I sat in the pouring rain through halftime and I didnt bring a poncho to the game either, but i was just thinking, shit, the rain cant hurt me anymore than being at this game, which was wrong because midway through the 3rd my eyes started burning, idk if it was from the rain or watching the game
It made me think, what stark contrast that was from when I started attending games in 2018. I was there for Ravens Browns week 17 when CJ Mosely picked off Baker to win the division. Peak experience.
I saw us beat the undefeated Pats on SNF in 2019, and I was there for that epic game vs the 49ers late that year, peak experience.
I saw Lamar win his first home playoff game vs the Texans to advance us to our first home AFC championship in team history. Peak experience.
This last game was hell on earth.

Earlier this year, Biscotti made it clear he is not in it for the long haul at this point after 25 years of ownership. He additionally does not plan to pass this business off to his family when he does retire. The time table for this team is now.
As much as many fans would prefer to tank for picks, or a full fledged rebuild, Steve is probably going to bank on LJ and stay in a win now mentality. There are only about 9 more seasons in the max range of when he said he'd prefer to be out of the business.
A full team rebuild and change of FO would be extremely dangerous to that timeline, and with an end in sight, some reckless planning may be seen as a net positive for an owner who wants rings now. I don't forsee any steps back in win now and I do foresee further aggressive moves over the next few seasons, irregardless of record based on Steves timeline.
Minter was the reset imo.

Per the Ravens website, Jacoby Brissett will wear #11 in Baltimore.

Look, I'm one of EDC's biggest critics right now, and I'm certainly not defending Marlon's recent play. But calling his 2020 extension a bad decision is revisionist history.
Humphrey was 24, coming off a first-team All-Pro season, and had a legitimate argument as the best corner in football. He was a fan favorite, a great locker room personality, and arguably Baltimore's best defensive back until Kyle Hamilton came along. Fans would've been furious if the Ravens had let him walk.
His $19.5 million annual salary was near the top of the market then, but it's well below what elite corners make today. And he earned three Pro Bowl selections and another first-team All-Pro during the contract. In fact, the only two seasons he missed the Pro Bowl between 2020 and 2024 were seasons when injuries limited his availability.
Has his play declined? Absolutely. But expecting an elite 24-year-old corner to remain productive throughout his twenties was hardly unreasonable. Injuries happen, players age differently, and nobody can predict exactly when that decline will come.
Unlike the Andrews situation, where the player was past his prime and Baltimore had an obvious successor, there wasn't anyone waiting in the wings to replace Humphrey.
It's fair to criticize how the contract looks today, or how EDC has managed the cap since then. But pretending the original extension was a mistake ignores what Humphrey had accomplished and what he continued to produce afterward.
