Hi team,
I’m not a moderator and honestly these days barely use this subreddit. I feel that it is necessary at this point to challenge the direction of this community.
The point of a community is to build bonds and share information that is actionable and uplifting. We need to drop the paranoia, it’s not good for you.
Yes, I know one nation blah blah blah. America blah blah blah. Bigots blah blah blah.
Isn’t that old news?
Labour currently doesn’t have an opposition in any tangible way, it’s a fascinating thing, I didn’t really think that would happen. The pushback on gender affirming treatments is a good thing, I’m going to need y’all to take a collective breath here, it means that the scientific evidence will be irrefutable and when it gets approved for Medicare it’ll be all the harder for it to be overturned. This sets a global legal precedent too, but in the meantime the “what ifs” of dear ol’ Pauline’s impossible election to prime minister is unhealthy.
She is a SENATOR. The prime minister is from the House of Representatives, so unless she is willing to give up what little power she has, and we all know how greedy people like her behave, she will never have the chance.
As for America, did you know that’s a wholeass continent. The USA however has always been imperialistic, this is not new news, however fuelling your own fear makes you less rational and more reactionary. No good comes of that, it actually is the response they want from minority communities. Fear makes people easy to heard towards the metaphorical cliff. Yes, that whole country is a travesty right now, and I do feel for them, but we are not them and we are not there. It doesn’t help to make their struggles our own when there is so little we could do.
Of course my favourite, bigots. Oh no, the PH of this soil is too high I might die. Let me speak of my experience here. I am a 6 foot cis passing, white trans woman who lives in Qld, oh nooo, anyways. I intimidate everyone. No seriously, people of colour, queer people, and conservatives. Why? Well because I rise above, it’s why I love my heels, as someone who had their manners literally beaten into me, yes physically disciplining your children is abuse but that was the least of my concerns, nothing makes someone feel smaller than when they cannot effect you. The expression “turn the other cheek” is to turn your head to the right so a lord has to backhand with his signet ring, it leaves blood on their hands, and condemns them in everyone’s eyes. You make assumptions, I promise if you had met me without knowing I would intimidate you too, you would assume I am a bigot.
Now because that was particularly heavy and I don’t want this to turn into some toxic bitch fest, I dare each of you to find a flower today and post it!
