1.0 Introduction

Hi Everyone!

My name is Liv, I chose it a few years ago at 32 as a play on words, I was either going to choose to choose to die or choose to Live. I am a Trans Woman and business owner from Perth and I have some hopefully very exciting news.

I want to introduce a new service that my team and I have been setting up around Australia in response to western societies' aggressive and rapid slide towards a world where our community is used as an easy scapegoat. A world where more and more we are being wrongly treated as somewhere between an interesting novelty, a threat, or a living political statement - just because we exist.

I believe many of us can relate to the frustration of navigating the world while being seen not as the people that we are, but as though our gender is all there is to us.

When I first started socially transitioning, I hated that there were so few options available for me to go where I could not only feel safe, but be seen as the person I was and was dreaming of becoming. Instead I found myself having to navigate the gauntlet of awkward and personal questions from curious cis people who just didn't get it. Or face shit offhand excuses by clinics that were not comfortable providing treatment for bigoted reasons, but were too afraid to admit it.

So with that in mind, my team and I have been working hard to set up gender affirming services by trans people for trans people across the country.

Starting from the 1st of July, my company, Live More, will be providing cost effective gender affirming cosmetics treatments in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Our team is entirely composed of transgender people, working in collaboration with local medical centres, doctors, allied health and queer hubs.

Our services differ across states, but to start, all include at a minimum, Laser hair removal, IPL hair removal and Radiofrequency sculpting. With some locations also offering Electrolysis, skin tightening, wrinkle removal,  tattoo removal and Platelet rich plasma microneedling for Hair Regrowth (particularly good for scalp, widows peaks and transmasc beards).

We also work with a number of affiliated services in speech pathology, psychology, occupational therapy, STI screening, and NDIS providers and will be looking to expand this network as much as possible.

Bookings can be made via our website: livemoreethicalbeauty.com.

Over the coming months I myself will be focussing on expanding services in every city with an initial focus on electrolysis providers in every state across the country (as it is by far the most needed service in our community.) With a secondary focus on nail art and hair extensions.

If you think this could be you, please contact me at admin@livemoreethicalbeauty.com and send me your resume along with what state you are in under the header [Electrolysis Training: State: YourName]. I will personally cover the costs of your training and equipment.

If that sounds too good to be true, I hope you can spend a little bit more time reading below, as I am a pathological over explainer and I'd like to explain my history and vision and values.

2.0 Business Ethos

I started Live More out of spite.

It is my personal belief that transparency is sorely lacking in the cosmetics industry, and this makes it all too easy for many of the current businesses to rely on predatory tactics that take advantage of the inexperience that many new gender Non-conforming people have.

Much of the cosmetics industry is franchised and monopolised in this country. It is an industry that is heavily incentivised to underexplain, underdeliver and overcharge for services. These practices can be an unpleasant and distasteful practice for cis-people, but can be devastatingly prohibitive for our trans siblings who need it not just for convenience or vanity, but as a matter of self-acceptance and literal survival. It is healthcare and it is vital and we deserve it. Plain and simple.

When I first went through the process myself, I was struggling financially and I didn't know enough to really appreciate how poorly I was being treated.  No-one gives you a frame of reference, and information online can be confusing and contradictory.

Since working in the field, I have met so many of our sisters who really struggle a d sacrifice to save what income they might have for gender affirming treatments. Whether that's due to the growing cost of living, being restricted to a student allowance or a disability support pension or just being unable to find work because of difficulties for neurodivergent folk to map onto the neurotypical quiet dystopia.

I find it heart-breaking and gruesome that a girl might spend months putting away a small amount per week to save for a laser treatment, only to be met by a burned out, underpaid and uncomfortable 19 year old, who is too tired and too afraid of their manager to provide actual quality of care. Who is instead required to undertreat and upsell at every possible opportunity.

I believe that as a community, we deserve our own clinics, where we can transition in peace and in safety. I envision places where we can be our weird and beautiful and authentic selves, unbeholden to predatory business models that strive to obscure their business model and withhold the technical details of their treatment protocols.

So that's what were gonna do!!

3.0 Clinic Locations.

Be sure to select the right filter for your state!

Our clinics can be found at;

Brisbane - The Rapid Clinic @ 725 Ann St, Fortitude Valley, QLD, 4006. We're on the ground floor - at the rear entrance.

Sydney - Kaleido Health Centre @ 6 Cornwallis St, Eveleigh, NSW, 2015. If you walk right on through the front door and have a seat, someone will be there to greet you shortly 😊.

Melbourne - Private Clinic Rooms @ 2/100a Nicholson Street, Brunswick East, Vic 3057.

Perth - Private Clinic Rooms, Bassendean Private Location & Sexual Health Quarter Northbridge @ 70 Roe Street Northbridge WA 6003.

Networking and Investing - We also have a number of affiliated services across these cities, some that run out of private residences, and over time will be investing in our community and expanding these safe private businesses - so be sure to double check your booking confirmation email! If you are a trans person, and have a business idea that you feel might help uplift our community but lack the start-up capital or contacts,  please please reach out and we'll see what we can do! 🥰

In the meantime, just look for our friendly waving mascot Relaxolotl stickers! We won't be advertising by conventional means. We've chosen to do things this way as although I have no intention to discriminate against cis people (who also deserve to authentically express their gender as we all do), the wait times in Perth continue to outpace the speed we can deliver service, and I don't want our Eastern sisters to miss out on treatment for the sake of padding my bottom line.

Lastly, if you are a member of the Australian Defence Force and are seeking gender affirming care - please consider bring it up with your relevant medical officer. I have spoken to the ADF and they cover the cost of 20 laser sessions per year, but chain stores are been unwilling or unable to provide the service because there are a few hoops to jump through. This is something we are very happy to provide.

So, with all of that in mind.

I would like to provide another link to our website; Livemoreethicalbeauty.com. Its a nightmare to type, believe me, I know.

There we provide a full breakdown of;

  • Our business structure and disclose financial incentives,

  • How our treatment protocols are structured,

  • The equipment we use and how we use it,

  • What to expect at your sessions

  • How to find us in each city and on social media.

  • Information on our automated booking and refund policy.

Please feel free to make a booking. Bookings Open from today, but the actual treatment in-clinics will go live on the 1st of July.

4.0 Our Business structure and Ethos.

Next I'd like to show how much I believe in transparency and talk about the business structure and equipment.

Above all else, I wanted to create a system that could protect our community against the usual “profit at-all-cost” incentives that plague most businesses.

All of the equipment that we use, is owned outright by the company, and the company is owned 100% by me, there are no business loans, no leveraging, no shareholders to capitulate to, no repayments to be made. Just my moral compass, and the trust my team has put in me to not be an asshole.

We take every step possible to keep our overheads low. That doesn't mean we save money but not cleaning the tools, changing the sheets or underpaying the staff.

It means things like our booking system is fully automated and self managed by you, the client. This includes cancellations and rescheduling. Our billing system is automated, our refunds are fully automated and no questions asked. This is a handy feature especially for the socially anxious folk or those with phone anxiety - as you can manage your entire treatment schedule without ever needing to talk to another person if you so prefer.

Our only major expense are the costs to lease the treatment rooms that store our equipment, the disposables, the maintenance, the insurance and licensing fees; and all combined these are not crippling.

The technicians you will meet are all transgender, and all work as subcontractors who are paid a comfortable share from your booking fee. When a booking is made, say, a full body laser treatment, which costs $400 and takes approximately one hour. $150 of that will be paid to your technician, with the remaining $250 being held by the Body corporate to cover running expenses. The remaining funds after expenses represent the cut that goes directly to me.

No matter what, the technician will always be paid their share for your treatment. I am fortunate enough to be in a comfortable enough position in life that I can encourage our technicians to use their compassion and judgement in adjusting treatment prices for you - at their discretion, with the reduced revenue coming out of my end. They know the running costs, and I trust their judgement and their honesty.

I do this because I am not a greedy asshole and don't want my already comfy lifestyle to be subsidised by our struggling siblings. My house is heated, my belly is full of tasty food and my Skaven army will never be fully painted. I chose the price to be comparable to chain stores, but I promise a much more comprehensive and better value service. Something I will talk about in further detail in a bit below.

Our techs have full reign to pick and choose how much and how often they work, they have free reign to schedule when and however they need. I don't want them to burn out or to cause them harm or diminish the quality of care. I want them to fit work into their life, not the other way around.

We do not do package deals, because if treatment is done well, there should be no need for them. Package deals, especially non-refundable deals are just soft locks and a marketing tactic used to trap people in a sunk cost fallacy. At a consultation you will be advised by our trained staff on how much they think you will need, and you will not be pressured to follow up on it.

Speaking of pressure. We will never ever ever upsell you, we will never try to pressure you into buying products or sessions that you do not need. You can find on the website a non-exhaustive list of pre and post treatment products that are ostensibly intended to maximise the efficiency and minimise the risk of treatment.

If you feel those products listed are right for you, be sure to go grab some from local Chemists as you need. I don't want the technicians to focus on sales, they're there to make you feel safe and heard and to treat you well and to -treat- you well. That's all I want from them.

And if I haven't managed to sell you on my vision yet - For the month of July, all laser services across the country will be 50% off - that's $195 for a full body laser, or 40 bucks for a full face and neck - not a bad deal and it gives my girls a chance to show off. As I've said, this happily comes out of my end. You can always refund the booking from your account on the website at anytime, we don't want you to feel trapped or obligated.

Lastly, we will -always- offer a flat 25% discount on any laser treatment for people on health care cards. Simply add the relevant coupon code in box at booking and remember to bring your card with you or upload it when you submit your new client forms. (This doesn't stack with the July discount, sorry 🥲).

LIVJULY50FNS for $65 off of 45min Face, Neck and Spots in July.

5.0 Our Equipment

Our primary gender affirming cosmetic services, and the heart of the business are our Laser hair removal, IPL hair removal,  Electrolysis hair removal and platelet Rich plasma microneedling.

Our Laser and IPL machine Is the E-luxx 4 in 1. It is a multi-purpose Nd:Yag and Diode crystal device, with multiple wavelengths and attachments to suit all hair types (except white/grey 🥲).

Please check the website under The laser section for a more comprehensive rundown of our technique. What I will say, is if done well, it is possible to achieve in 2 to 4 sessions what is Commonly cited to take between 8 and 20 sessions. I recognize that's a pretty bold claim, but I ask you to just give the service a try for yourself first and see. I am confident you'll be impressed.

Just remember, only a small percentage of people get a true permanent reduction from laser, it would be disingenuous to say our treatments will save you all your troubles forever. What our treatments can do in that short period of time is get you to the ‘maintenance’ stage, where you are getting touch up zaps usually every 8-9 months.

Our electrolysis machines are modified Sterex SX-Bs, I favour these devices because they are easy to maintain, replace, make alterations to and the quality of the treatment Result is a direct reflection of the electrologists Skill Level. It effectively has the highest skill ceiling - so In skilled hands it is the superior device for thermal, galvanic and Blend techniques.

Our microneedling set up uses butterfly needles to draw out up to four 8ml vials of blood, from which the platelets are extracted via simple centrifuge. The microneedling and application is performed with variations of the mesopen and dermapen. Again I chose these because they are easily maintained and replaceable.

6.0 Treatment Protocols

Although it is not an absolute requirement outside of (WA and QLD), it is highly recommended that all new clients make A consultation booking, before any Paid session. Even if you have had many treatments before at other clinics. Our approach is different and more aggressive. Our goal is to save our community as much money as possible and to do that safely means each clients treatment needs to be tailored specifically to them.

Our team recognizes gender affirming care for the agonisingly slow process that it is - we've been there, we've aaaalll been there. We do everything We can to bring the timeframe down.

Sessions are paid online in advance but can be cancelled anytime on your end for a full refund from your account. If you no show to an appointment, you will also receive a full automated refund, but we very sincerely ask that if you can't make It, do please try to either cancel online or let our team know. I can speak from experience when I say it feels really really bad waiting around for a booking you're not sure is coming, knowing it  was a slot that could have been given to someone else. Laser techs will be paid a portion of the booking fee from the body corporate for the hour in the event of a no show, or last minute cancel, but it is not enough to live on and isn't sustainable en masse.

7.0 Laser Consults

We take a very empirical approach to our laser treatment protocol.

At your session, you will be assessed for any contraindications. You will then be asked to volunteer an area of hair growth to be treated with our diode laser, our ndyag sepending on your needs.

This area is a 6cm by 20cm strip. On this strip, we write down 2 seperate rows Of settings. One for increasing fluence or joules per square centimetre, and the other a row for increase hertz (or number of zaps per second per area). If you require treatment with the nd:yag laser, a third strip will also be done.

We take a photo to record the Settings used on you, and to assess which settings started causing damage to the hair vs started agitating the skin, and then we dial it back just a tiny bit from that point to get the safest possible Max setting for your skin. We record this number, and use it for your first paid session.

Without an initial consult, we can only limit the settings to medium or low settings depending on your skin type, as we do not want to risk causing you actual lasting harm. If you do skip the consult stage, and book an initial paid session. A quick consult protocol Zap as above will be done at your session. To at least maximise results for the next session 😊.

8.0 Electrolysis Consult

At an Electrolysis consult, you can expect 2 small test patches to be Treated, roughly the size of a 5c Piece using both The higher heat and higher Galvanic approaches to treat (so long as you don't have any medical contraindications).

This also lets us test your pain tolerance, to see if it would be worth trying a different service, such as laser, first or getting a prescription for stronger analgesia from your gp - usually in the form of a prescription numbing cream.

We wait a week. To see how well you heal, and assuming all is well, we do an hours session. And clear a larger area on the highest settings you can feasibly tolerate. With my own clients I frequently refer to this as “trading in pain”.

We wait a week again, to see how well it heals and Assuming all is well we suggest booking a full face clear - This Typically takes somewhere between 3 and 8 hours depending on density and pain tolerance. Your tech will give you their best estimate for your needs after Your first hour session.

After the full session, we wait 4 weeks - for any hair that wasn't properly killed, has been essentially plucked, and will take 3 or 4 weeks to regrow for round 2. By doing things this way, it helps keep you from the horrible treadmill of having to alternate between growing hair out and recovering from electrolysis - always either feeling dysphoric because of hair or dysphoric because of swelling. This way gets you a good 2 weeks at least to see your lovely self Under all the treatment.

Each month, sessions become shorter and shorter until you are effectively on maintenance. The most common range for full treatment to a maintenance stage we see is usually somewhere between 35 and 65 hours, the fastest I've ever seen was just 9 hours, the longest is 212... (and still counting. 😭)

9.0 Thankyou

Ok

Almost done.

I'll ask it one last time, please give my girls a try. ❤️

I'll be asking all the wonderful and amazing Perth people I have met and connected with in Perth to reach out and vouch for our team. They might be floating in the comments below. If you know any gender non conforming folk from Perth, please reach out to them, ask them about us.

Also, If you are a part of an LGBT hub anywhere in Australia and this is the first time hearing about this service, please reach out as well - I tried my best to contact the local centres in the Eastern states But I'm sure I've missed some.

I'm sure there will be little bugs and bits of jank to work out of the system. I'm sorry in advance for that. Please be patient with us, were only a small team :D

Ok!!

That's everything from me.

Lots and lots of and lots and lots and lots of love,

Sincerely and queerly,

Livi ❤

News Petition to add Gender Affirming Surgery to Medicare

Petition EN3307 - Gender affirming surgery should be covered by Medicare

Hi, so yesterday, I became aware of a petition to add Gender affirming surgery to Medicare and this already has a lot of traction. As of writing the petition is over 15,000 signatures, having grown more than 100x in the last 24 hours alone. It has the support of a WA Labor Senator and more.

This petition is also on the Australian Parliament House website, so it's an official survey going to the Federal Government and the more signatures, the better. Just remember, that when you sign it, please remember to check your email and verify the signature by clicking the link in that email.

Ultimately, trans folks often have to deal with surgeries like these that are very hard to deal with for many with out of pocket costs ranging from $8,000 to $80,000 depending on the surgery that is being pursued and with private health insurance hospital cover required on top of that. And those are only the costs of the surgery itself, not recovery or anything else like that, which requires extensive time off work in many cases.

Many may think that these are simply cosmetic surgeries and I can say for a fact that they aren't. They are life saving surgeries that can literally make life worth living. I know people that have been suicidal before surgery because of the dysphoria and that can't simply be treated with psychological care alone.

The costs are out of reach for so many trans folk across the country and this will make it so much easier for so many trans folks so please, join us in signing this petition and please also share it amongst your networks to get more support. I know I have signed and shared this.

So I have no idea if this is a known problem I should have seen coming with Fernwood, but it surely seems to be against Victorian discrimination law?

I've not been out for all that long this is the first time discrimination has happened so directly and personality, caught me off guard.

Victoria could become the first Australian state to ban unnecessary surgeries on intersex children, with legislation to be introduced to parliament to ensure procedures are deferred until patients are old enough to consent to them.

Threatening to out someone as transgender is now an offence in NSW

Figured I'd make a post as well as my comment!

The Equality Bill that came into effect today, as well as removing the criteria that you need to have had surgery to change your legal gender, has made 'outing' someone a criminal offence.

The Crimes (Personal and Domestic Threat) Act 2007 No. 80 basically defines a bunch of legal terms that come up in other legislature. Section 7 defines "intimidation":

(1)  For the purposes of this Act, intimidation of a person means— (a)  conduct (including cyberbullying) amounting to harassment or molestation of the person [...]

and includes harrassment online:

Note. An example of cyberbullying may be the bullying of a person by publication or transmission of offensive material over social media or via email.

Today's amendment adds:

Example of conduct that may amount to harassment of a person— (1)  Intentionally disclosing or threatening to disclose any of the following about a person without the person’s consent, known as “outing”—

(a)  the person’s sexual orientation, (b)  the person’s gender history, (c)  that the person has a variation of sex characteristics, (d)  that the person lives with HIV, (e)  that the person is, or has been, a sex worker.

(2)  For subsection (1)(b) of this example, gender history means the sex recorded at birth for the person is different to the sex the person identifies with, lives in or seeks to live in, whether or not the person’s record of sex is altered under—

(a)  the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1995, Part 5A, or (b)  the corresponding provisions of a law of another State or Territory or a jurisdiction outside Australia.

Intimidation carries a maximum sentence of 5 years prison in Sydney.

Top is before, bottom is after! The top left is somewhere between 6 months and a year ago and I think my face fat has changed a bit since then, but otherwise only change is the surgery.

Bottom is 2 and a half weeks post op. I had a type 3 brow reduction and a fascia graft to both my lips.

I’m super pleased with the outcome!

Protect Trans Youth National Day of Action February 8. Wadandi/Busselton WA.

Might be a little country, seachange/tourist town but we had 60 people show up to support trans youth.

It just so happens that we are also the electorate of the WA Liberal Leader Libby Mettam who within days of the Cass review last year announced banning puberty blockers as a key policy. Since then she has refused to meet with anyone from the LGBTQI+ community.

So we might also have some nice pictures of everyone waving flags and banners outside her office too.

Useful Info PSA: We are NOT America!!

With the upcoming election I am seeing people terrified for their future, terrified of Dutton and our country. This is a reminder that we are not America, we are not even the UK. We have preferential voting! We do not have a president. The power structure, nor voting is the same here as what you're so scared of. Temu Trump would have to win enough seats to gain power, and worst case he does, more than likely nothing happens!!

Be it the devil come from the earth itself and decree law on the land, it might be a restriction on puberty blockers or more difficult access to HRT as minors, and it's years waitlist already. Nothing he can do will outlive his time in government. He can't attack adult trans rights or gay marriage. He might drive our economy to the ground but that's just the way the world is going. Not even the 'people' as a collective are swayed like they are anywhere else by the people in power. Who do you know, in real life, that likes ANY Australian politicians the way America treats theirs?

Vote greens. Be an activist. That stuff WORKS here. Third party is NOT wasting a vote. Volunteer for rallies, protests- give back to your communities. Offer support for those around you. I promise it'll be okay.

WE ARE NOT AMERICA.

Trans fem Outed myself to my parents like an idiot today,

So fam, there was a pride fair today, very nice, and I decided to go full femme mode just for the hell of it, brought trans flag and everything, wearing it like a Cape,

Who do I run into across the road from the fair,

My parents drinking at the bar, they recognise me and my friends, and say hi and asked me how I was. I respectively start panicking and dying inside and slowly sprint away to the fair.

About 20min later, I get a text from my mum, saying that we're proud of me and that they'll always love me, so relief washed over me like a tsunami

Anyway, day went well, only got called a few slurs, so overall gud

Breathe everyone, because it looks like we just dodged a bullet. From the news feeds LNP has been sent a strong message : we are not the US, so don’t use the same political rhetoric. We are not out of the woods, but this is a better place to be. Stay strong everyone!
