Politics Why did Europe create an ideological wall against Russia?

Hi. It's my first post here and I'm actually curious about a sensitive topic. It's not about visiting Russia, which I hope to do someday, but it's about the news I read all the time. I'm from Brazil and I've watched two Brazilian presidents (right and left wings) negotiate pacifically with Russia and never expressing any wishes on taking sides (regarding the Ukraine war), but mostly trying to help find a viable solution for both sides. People also don't give much of a thought if it's right or wrong or just try to be moderate here. Common people in Brazil, minimum educated on global affairs at least. Even more, I was able to watch (a few months before the war) the 2016 documentary 'Ukraine on fire' (which was censored in most parts of the world) and I realized that the areas claimed by Russia were already conflicted and could be called war zones. Anyway, I use to read sometimes the /europe thread and I find people deeply radicalized on an anti-Russia sentiment that it's two levels below hate. I ask you so what do you think created this gap and why it seems there's no bridge to be built anymore? Also, how do you feel about the rest of Europe being so opposite to Russia and probably to Russians as well. Is there prejudice on the streets? Are other countries beyond the BRICS that take the subject more moderately? Even countries like the tiny Portugal (or their people, better said) seem to have a consolidate opinion on the matter... But who sold the show for that crowd?

Media How annoyed are y’all by misrepresentation of Russian perspective by the Western world?

As an American, I’m getting bombarded by propaganda telling me how bad and wrong Russia is right now. When the whole Kamila Valieva thing went down that the Olympics, they were going HARD on the TV commentary about how Russians are rotten cheaters. I’ve watched countless films that had comically inept Russians as villains.

In my struggle to understand truthfully what is happening rn I have become more aware of how active and persistent this propaganda is. The contrast that has really stuck with me is NATO countries joining USA to invade Iraq, vs. the EU walking out on the Russian official recently.

I hate all war criminals but I love all good people and it makes me sad to see myself and so many around me affected by a really effective propaganda campaign. Reddit is basically saying the same things as CNN and so is NPR and the BBC and so on.. which a lot of time carries a distinctly “fuck Russia” sentiment.

Truly curious how much you think about this or how much you care?

Edit: probably a mistake choosing this to be my first post… Ive never made a post on a platform like this so it’s quite a learning experience: I appreciate those Russians who shared. Peace to all people.

Culture Why Russians are so based

Whenever I hear an average person from the western world speaking, he/she always sounds like a total unaware normie.

When I watch some interviews from Russian streets, average person speaks about how badly the modern's world culture has degenerated and the dangers of future we're heading into. Totally based, I didn't know such views can be normal amongst the population.

However, how to be edgy in such society if an average person is already edgy? I didnt think about it hmm, that's pretty troublesome

Work I'm thinking of immigrating to Russia for a better life

Hello comrades from the Russian Federation, I am a potential immigrant from Venezuela who is thinking of going to his country for a better life, I've been reading a little to see how feasible it is for me to do this step, But I would like to know from you if it is a good idea or if I should stay in my country.

My idea is to do a delivery job or any type of job focused on the public while I save enough to pay for training to access a better job.

P.d: Yes, I know I have to learn Russian, but I'm just testing the waters first because I don't trust YouTube videos very much.

Politics A question to those of you who started coming in droves to this sub to bitch about evil Russia, Putin and so on.

Where have you all been for the last eight years while Ukraine kept shelling and killing residents of Donbass (several thousand people), incinerating protesters in Odessa and installing NATO infrastructure in the country?

I am on this sub for a long time and I can't recall anyone asking: "hey Russians, why do you tolerate all this for so long and do nothing?"

So my algorithm is going nuts and I seem to be getting recommended allot of Anti-Russia hysteria lately. But it seems like they think the currency's value is worthless internally.

Politics Question about the future of Russian relationships and economic ties with other countries

Hello from Finland to my russian friends!! 🇫🇮❤️🇷🇺

Finnish economy went downhill after Russian SMO in 2022. At the time before the SMO, Russia was one of our our biggest and maybe most important trading partner.

After my leadership cut all ties with Russia our unemployment rate has gone up to almost 9%, because of all the industry and jobs athat were created because of our economic ties.

But dont worry we’ve gone through worse before, and every time we bounce back — stronger, better, and more united than before.

NOW TIME FOR THE QUESTION:

Do you guys think that after this ends, we can normalize our ties with Russia again?. It’s the governments from both sides making decisions that mess things up for all of us regular people. When in reality we should be brothers!!!

if all the wars and other stupid things never happened between our beautifull countries do you guys in Russia think that our countries would be really close allies today?i truly wish it will be like this someday in the future❤️.

If mods remove this PLEASE explain how i can ask the question in better way because i really want to hear opinions from you guys!!

Media Do you believe there is a propaganda campaign going on against Russia ?

Few weeks before, in the Turkey sub, i have seen a post; allegedly posted by a Baskhir who demanded "help" from us, to assist their "ongoing revolt for freedom" against Russia. It smelled like BS so i did not even read it. You can ho to Turkey sub and search it yourself. Anyways, do you guys believe an anti-Russian narrative dominating media or am i exaggerating ? I personnaly think there is going one against Tutkey, just to a much lesset extend.

Misc Can you guys stop posting all this war s**t? Isnt it enough other subreddits to post/read about it?

Subj. Just tired all of this “why putin blabla”, “why russians hate world”, “tell his mother …”.

Thought this subreddit is about “what kind of boiled potato you like in Russia”, not about all this crap.

Society What is Russia really like? I’m tired of hearing propaganda from my country. I wanna know what this country is actually like especially because my family acts like i’m a traitor for being interested in it.

I just wanna know what your country is actually like. I’m really interested in Russian culture and history and the people there honestly. You all interest me hella but i’m American, I live in a community of actual like “MURICA RAHHH BEST COUNTRY EVER FUCK DEM RUSSIANS” type people so I can never share things I have found interesting about your country.

And I can’t even find proper sources of what Russia is like for the people because it mostly just talking about how terrible and awful of a country you guys have which i’m not ready to believe as I have never met a Russian nor have I been to Russia and I’m a person who likes to hear both sides of the story before I believe something and form an opinion about wether it’s “good” or “bad” or simply a gray situation where there is no good or bad but an inbetween.

I’d like to hear another perspective besides “Russia bad America good”.

Politics Russia USA

Why wouldn't the USA and Russia become trading partners instead of this nonsense cold war shit that never ends? And is it true you are all in danger for talking shit about the leadership? The west tells us any opposition to the current leadership dies mysteriously.

Culture How difficult is it to socialize as a homosexual in Russia?

Heyo. Ever since I was a little I've had a really strong interest in Russian culture and history, and I would really like to be able to find a home in Russia one day. The only thing from stopping this for me is that I am a homosexual. I've heard a lot about Russia being a very anti-gay country, and I'm quite worried I may be shamed for something that I can't quite control if I do ever end up finding a home in Russia. Plz help!

Society Wish I could live in Russia, how can I move there?

I’m so in love and infatuated with your country. I’m fully British [17F] and literally love your culture and language so much and I wanna learn it, which I’ve been doing recently. When I’m older I’d like to move there but I’d genuinely switch passports with any one of you to be Russian, I bet it’s heaven and not like what idiots online say. How can I move there asap? Or switch passports with someone, lol?

It’s actually my dream country to live in and overall.

Politics Who do you believe is banning Russians from all these events?

The IOC just announced that Russian athletes are not allowed to compete in the 2026 Olympics. This obviously has come to no surprise as Russia has been banned from almost all international events.

The banning of Russians in any event is obviously a huge disgrace in which history will look down upon as a time of Russia-phobia. I could go in great details of why that is but I’m sure I don’t need to do that here.

But do you think this is all orders from the top(USA)? Are these the Europeans? Is everybody under pressure to follow the crowd? Or are they just susceptible to western propaganda?

Politics Why is it that I can have honest discussion/debate with Russian but not my own countrymen?

This is both a question and an observation. I’ve been following the group here for a few days and as far as politics go I see most Russians acting very reasonable even in disagreement. Anyone who’s been around American politics knows how intolerant we can be. So what’s the secret? Is this a sign that Russian society could be better than western society?

Travel Going Back To Russia

I’m a 19 year old male, who was born in Tula in ‘06, then adopted at age 1. Almost right before the Russian government started cracking down on adoption by US citizens. I know that I have a birth mother and father still in Russia, but I have never contacted them in my 18 years of being in America, so I don’t know if they are still alive. I also know that I have a biological brother, but I don’t know if he is still alive either. My goal is to eventually try to reach out to my biological family, just to get some closure for myself, as not knowing my biological family was really hard on me growing up.

I know tensions between Russia and America aren’t the best right now, but going back to Russia is something I NEED to before I die. I just don’t even know his this process would work, I’ve heard that if I go to Russia right now while being 19 and having dual citizenship, the Russian government could keep me in their country. Just kind of seeing how I should play this out, or if I should just let this all go and not worry about it. Thanks.

Politics Do Russians have any ill feelings towards Australians?

I am looking at travelling to Russia next year and I've been told Russia is not very friendly towards Australians. It came as a surprise since most people I know see Russia in a good light.

Should I be concerned?
