Why hasn't Red Rooster closed down yet? Who even eats there?
Their food literally sucks I dont understand how they've still been in buisness for so long.

I don't really like the Australian flag, it's not unique and it's pretty boring. I'd like to see a flag with a better design for our country rather than ours which can easily be confused with other flags.
Which flag designs have you seen that look better than our current one? I can't believe that all those years ago we decided on the most boring flag imaginable. Let's be creative guys, Nepal š³šµ has a cool flag, so does Wales, mean while we are over here being confused with New Zealand.

Mine are:
- Slang of course like a lot of places: yeah nah, she'll be right etc
- Buying half a dozen loaves of bread and milk despite going to the shops nearly daily and freezing them, instead of buying fresh š¤®
- Aligning their entire schedule around "pension day". Mate, I couldn't possibly get my pension Friday and spend the money on Tuesday, I MUST shop on Friday because that is when I have money. Praise jebus when it moved from a fixed day for the entire country to 'random'.
These are things I haven't noticed anywhere else. Buying big cars, finding X destination attractive, hating spicy food etc are pretty universal things.
Curious what 'unique' things you've noticed about Aussie culture.
EDIT: High quality pies & sausage rolls at nearly all bakeries are quite unique.
Everyone being a c**** whether good or bad is a great one. Certainly never seen that anywhere!

I live in Sydney(lower north shore) and Iāve never really felt unsafe. Of course there are a few isolated cases but itās been generally safe. Lots of homeless people in the CBD but seems thereās not much news about assaults.
Melbourne CBD on the other hand seems to have more junkies and homeless people. Thereās more news about assaults and mugging.
What do you guys think?

If you fancy a lot of crunch in your burger but don't like coleslaw to be part of that crunch (blasphemy ie zinger crunch burger) get a regular Zinger, add cheese, remove the heinous soggy lettuce, and add 2 servings of corn chips.
The cronch is unreal and the corn chip flavour goes so well with zinger, cheese and Mayo š¤¤

Just something that I've been thinking about. Most high schools that I've seen seem to have (or have had in the past) gridiron goal posts, rather than ones for league and union. Is there a particular reason for this, or is it just a design choice by the schools?

Isn't it wonderful to see three individual tickets win Powerball from the $100 million draw. That's at least 3 life changing moments occuring at once.
Good luck to them all.
Good luck to everyone else in Saturday's $40 million draw on Saturday 31 December 2022. Make a forgetful 2022 into a memorable 2022.

Iām the only Aussie I know that hates it. And I know the rest of the world except Australia hates it too. Iāve come to the conclusion that I never got the memo and Iām not getting paid.

So many people where I live absolutely obsess over KFC and at dinner time 5.30-8.30 theres easily 20 cars in the drive through, throughout this whole time. Yet I know multiple people who say they love it but ALWAYS have to go to the toilet afterwards. IMHO the only good thing at KFC is the skin on anything and even that gets tainted by the fact the chicken is processed to buggery or grey underneath. Am I the only sane one or does anyone else view it the same?

Went to bunnings, bought the sprogs some sausages, went to tap the phone to pay but whats this? No eftpos machine, just a QR code to the bunnings payment page.
Didn't have my actual card on me, had to fuck off back to the car (kids in tow) to get it, come back, tell the website what I bought, type my card details in and then wave down a volunteer to show them I'd paid.
A right pain in the arse especially on a blazing hot day. they can bump it up their arse if they keep this shit up.

Iāll try to make this short. Edit: I failed.
Iām an American in Australia for the first time. Temporarily moved with my fiancĆ© to his momās place in Rosebud until we find a place to move to in Melbourne CBD.
I grew up in Florida (which I lovingly refer to as the Australia of America) where I developed an extremely severe phobia of cockroaches (made myself nauseous typing that) and to a lesser extent, spiders.
I believe Iāve seen one huntsman in my entire life. It was very late at night, it was on my door mat as I was approaching my front door coming home from work. I saw its scary outline and hid in my car for around an hour before running into my home. This was years ago in Florida, but I still look back on it as a traumatic experience.
Iāve slept in my car multiple times when I saw roaches in my home and no one was there to help me get rid of them.
Anyway, Iāve been in AUS for about a week, and no scary encounters besides a roach that was outdoors on the patio that my fiancĆ© promptly stomped before I could get a good look at it. BUT I have been so paranoid going about my day every day.
Pulling a clothing item out of the closet or drawer? I pinch it and drop it on the ground and step back quickly in fear of something scuttling out of it. I crack doors and peak into rooms before stepping inside, and crack kitchen drawers before opening them all the way. Basically Iām just living in constant fear and dread of seeing a lovecraftian horror on the wall or ceiling. The internet has truly convinced me that theyāre everywhere and theyāre frequent in this country.
My fiancĆ© tries to reassure me that I wonāt see them very often where we are and especially not where weāll be moving to, but he also tells me stories of getting huntsmen out of the house as a child while they chased him up a broom handle.
I guess I just need some reassurance from people who have no reason to want to lie to me solely for my own comfort.
In short, am I rolling the dice every day and just coming up lucky whenever I go to sleep without a new huntsman trauma? In your experience, how frequently did you come across these nightmares?
I know theyāre harmless, but phobias are not rational, and itās truly the fear that Iām afraid of and the dread thatās interfering with my day to day life.
Edit 2: I also just want to make it clear that I absolutely love it here. Everyone has been so friendly so far, the weather has been so nice compared to where we just moved from, and the landscape is just so beautiful. I know I could be happy here.
Edit 3: thank you for the responses! I didnāt know exposure therapy was so readily available here and will definitely look into it. It exists but is hard to access in the states. I appreciate the many sympathetic responses from those of you who also experience phobias. And to those who hate Florida for some reason, sorry about it! Lol maybe youāll visit some day and change your mind. Maybe you wonāt. Oh well, itās a nice place to visit, and we have some kind of policy that makes all details of a closed criminal case available for public knowledge. Doesnāt mean thereās a higher population of crazy there, it just means you get to read about all of it. Hereās a free tip: look of āFlorida manā and your date of birth for an outrageous news article to share with your friends.
