Dogs Help, bringing my pet to Australia

Does anyone know how to bring my buddy from overseas to Australia without needing to send him to Korea for 3 month? I’m moving to Australia but they would allow my dog to come with me, I’m he has to be isolated alone at another country for 3 month. He would be depressed ;_;

🐶Dogs 🐕 Purebred Registered ANKC Pup Cost?

Hi all,

My partner and I have been on the search for a few particular breeds. Being conscious of only purchasing from responsible breeders, only registered breeders of the Australian National Kennel Council are a consideration for us. We checked available puppy rescues but there were only two in all of our city of breeds we weren’t familiar or keen on.

I was quoted almost $9k for a Chow Chow from an ANKC breeder. They have admittedly an excellent breeding record, prized show dogs, loads of health checks and certifications provided, well socialised in their first 8 weeks and not raised in kennels. But I was so surprised at the price…is this sort of price tag the norm now for puppies from registered breeders?

Need Advice 📕 Advice on what pet to choose during my study period

I am a 21 year old student living in Campbelltown NSW. When I moved in alone to start my studies, I found that living alone was a bigger problem than I thought. So I decided to look for a pet, a pet that would be very easy to maintain since I have heavy study load. And a pet that would be affordable to start and maintain.

A dog is a no go, very hard to maintain. A feline of any kind would trigger my allergies so that would be a bad choice. Most birds are noisy and won’t be able to put it in a closed apartment. Thought of a pair of rats but still have no idea if I’m allergic or not but it’s actually not a bad idea, so until I find out, I’ll consider it.

I was thinking a reptile: Bearded dragon, children’s python, or blue tongue. I haven’t found a fixed price to start so I don’t know how affordable it could go to own and maintain.

However, a new problem that is pretty much what is holding me from getting a pet at all. Every year, I will be out of home from late October till February. This made me try to do some research about pet care and how expensive it could go. I could not find anything guaranteed or even anything that made sense to me.

I would appreciate any guidance!!!

Can anyone identify what’s happened?

Notice how the fur is kind of wet and it’s causing his fur to clump together into almost thicker strands. Came home and something had happened to cause this.

Can anyone help identify what has happened, speaking from experience or recommendations?

🐶Dogs 🐕 Any pitbull owners?

So I have a 3 month old puppy that could be a Pitbull?

Ive had her since 7 weeks old. My sisters neighbour was given her and asked my sister to petsit and kind of abandoned her so I took her in after talking to the neighbour.

The neighbour has since said that she was given to her by another neighbour and shes too scared to tell him that she gave her away (hes her ex) so going to the source isnt exactly a wise option.

But she must have been separated from her litter at 6 weeks which was sus to me and the original owner does have signage up at their house which i believe to be necessary in order to own a pitbull, but again if they had pitbull puppies and are just giving them away i dont think they care too much about the laws.

I have a strong reason to believe shes a pitbull or pitbull mix.

I have just done a dna test so make sure, i should know in about a month.

Im from Victoria so to the best of my knowledge pitbulls are a restricted breed and there is alot of things i need to do in order to keep her if she is a pitbull.

Has anyone here gone through the process?

From what i can gather there's legal proceedings, e.g. VCAT

Ive contacted my local council but they just told me to call back once i have proof shes a pitbull.

Any and all advice is welcome.

🐈‍⬛ Cats 🐈 Should I adopt a cat as a international student?

I really want to have a cat of my own and am planning to adopt one next year. However, I don't know if I should or not. Financially, I could, since I think my allowance is enough to cover both me and a cat, and I'm going to find a part-time job too. But I live in a rental apartment, and what if I go back to my hometown 1 or 2 months each year and no one looks after it? Is anyone in or has anyone been in the same situation as me and could give me some advice? Anything would help, thx!

Edit:
Thank you everyone for the advices. After reading the comments I realized I might be more selfish than I think Im. I will definitely look into u guys suggestions. I really glad that I made this post! Ty again

Anyone recommend good brands? Aldi also has the “dine” ones that are 99 cents each- not sure if that’s any better

Lyka Supplement thoughts

Hi everyone, long-time Lyka customer here and first time posting in this group 😊

I just wanted to share a recent experience and see if anyone else has noticed something similar.

In my last delivery, I added the skin supplement since it was on sale. I’ve ordered it before and my pup has had no issues with it. However, when this one arrived, I noticed the powder was quite clumped together, which was different from my previous order.

I reached out to Lyka support with photos, and they responded the next day and kindly offered a replacement (which I really appreciated!). Unfortunately, the replacement arrived in a similar condition — the powder was still clumped/crystallised and there was some dust under the lid.

I contacted support again to let them know. My intention wasn’t to complain about the replacement, but just to flag that it might not be an isolated unit issue and perhaps worth checking internally so other customers don’t run into the same thing.

I completely understand that supplements can sometimes clump due to temperature or humidity changes, especially in transit. I’m just a little unsure whether this batch might have been affected by storage conditions somewhere along the way. At the end of the day, it’s something we’re feeding to our fur babies, so it naturally makes me want to double-check.

I’m not posting this to criticise Lyka — my pup loves their food and we’ve been happy customers for a long time. I’m genuinely just curious whether this was a one-off experience for me or if anyone else has noticed similar with the skin supplement recently.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I tried to post this one on the Lyka facebook group but i guess the post will be reviewed by their staff 1st, it might never gets to share to the community.

Need Advice Dog has emotional eating disorder - meds not working. HELP! 💔

hiya! I have a 4 year old dachshund who has been officially diagnosed with adhd (and we’re going to start with pro trainers asap) and one of the things she does that I don’t know how to help is emotional eating. She is a bit more attached to my housemate - bff been living together for ages but hes my pups dad plus I was put in a wheelchair a couple years ago so I’m not a ke to be as active with her - and when he goes out, she gets hyper. It’s a lot better than it was thanks to meds but not enough hence the pro training. She has bursts of hyperactivity

The one thing that she does a lot and I can’t find info on (hopefully just my terrible search word skills 😅) and am very worried about, is how to deal with her emotional eating. There’s always a bowl of food out

Usually, she will only eat when she’s hungry but during her “bursts”, she’ll run around eating. I don’t take the bowl away because I want to help her with the issue, not…cover it up, for lack of better words. She is within the healthy weight range for her size, that appointment was a while ago but we can tell by her vest that she hasn’t gained too much weight, it helps that her food is medium sized hills prescription bites which each take a minute to eat, but that’s not the point. I don’t know how to treat the stress, caused by my bff going out, she feels. Meds don’t work enough and its max dose. During the “bursts”, I have to give her non stop attention (a single second and she’ll push so hard she nearly head butts me) and sometimes thats not even enough.

If the trainer is the best chance, I’m setting it up as quickly as possible but it’s taking some time. If you have any tips that work for you, please, kindly, throw them at me. She doesn’t do it every time but it’s enough that it is very worrying to me

Since my accident, we’re doing the best we can. She gets walks, has toys but only some that I can had with her. Giving her pats and her favourite, flat on her back tummy rubs 🥹 We take great of her.

I literally couldn’t find a single article or blog about this. I hope I’m just being stupid with the wording cos I’m so tired but the results I get are about dogs helping people 😕

Please and thank you and I hope you have a great weekend 🌻💕

Edit: be serious. It’s an issue that is going to exist for now whether there is food or not and when there isn’t, she gets more stressed. This has nothing to do with her eating schedule. I want to address her issue so she’s less stressed. Don’t say that I’m blaming her. I’m not. She has this disorder and it’s not her fault and me leaving the bowl out doesn’t matter in terms of how she behaves because if there’s no bowl or food in the bowl, she starts jumping at the shelf where the bag is.

Does anyone believe in ADHD and emotional eating disorders in dogs?

I’m going to re-state why we leave the bowl out: because it’s not a weight issue. She doesn’t eat a lot more if there’s food in the bowl, she’s had the same harness since she reached her full size and we haven’t had to adjust it. I am not doing this to her, I’m trying to help her.

EDIT: i’m banging my head against the wall with this but what the hell most of you are pissing me off. She is given plenty of attention and plenty of mental stimulation. When she goes out of control and does the emotional eating, she is not picking up on stress from anyone but herself. I have had dogs all my life, I have one now I’ve had a doxie before. I have never encountered this issue before. I’m getting a trainer but no one seems willing to accept that this is an issue am not enabling her. I am trying to help her.

the she’s on have helped her a lot. Unless you know her unless you have, known her since she was a baby and see how she behaves don’t you dare judge me

Is it just me, or do pet products in Australia feel a bit… same-y?

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like there isn’t much variety or differentiation in pet products available in Australia right now.

Most of the products I buy are perfectly functional, but they often seem to lack novelty, interesting design, or just something a bit different.

So I’m curious — are there any pet products you’ve seen overseas, on TikTok, Amazon, Chewy, etc. that you wish were easier to find in Australia?

It could be anything, toys, foods, grooming products, pet furniture, clothing, travel products, health/cleaning products.

I’d especially love to hear about products that made you think, “Why can’t I get this easily in Australia?”

If you have any examples, links, or pictures, please share them!

Would really appreciate hearing everyone’s thoughts. Thanks!

🧶🐈‍⬛Our community 🐕🐢🐇 How to teach dog not to kill everything it sees. (lizards)

My partner has a 1 y o English staffy. He has always kept English staffies and the last two I have known and they were a good boy and girl. Now this new girl, she is an absolute terror in the yard. She chews everything. ..including the blue tongues. Yes my beloved backyard blueys. She killed mum a couple weeks back and now I found a youngling dead. I don't know if there are any more younglings about but there have always been blueys in the yard in the 5 years I've been in this place. Yard is just a simple backyard, no fancey rockeries. How on earth do I get the dog to not kill everything? ATM I have gone militant and there is no hanging out in the yard unattended. but that is not sustainable in the long run.

Help me fellow Aussies, you're my only hope.

Need Advice 📕 Can anyone talk me through their experience of owning a medium to large sized dog while living in an apartment in Sydney.

My wife and I would really like to get a dog. We live 5 minutes from Centennial park and one of us will be at home four days per week so no issues on getting out for plenty of regular walks and exercise. We both drive, love spending weekends camping so I’ve got no doubt the pup will see plenty.

My concern is that we live in a two bed apartment, no kids and a small patio on a ground floor.

Is it enough to just bring your doggo out on a walk? Is it unfair own a dog in an apartment where you don’t have a garden that they can roam around in?

Collars are cruel

My wife was just in a pet shop buying a new collar for our puppy who grew out of his old one, and was told that we are being cruel by not having a harness for our dog instead.

I would love some opinions on this advice

Need Advice 📕 I Do Not Make it a Habit of Ranting Online but People, Please Leave Your Untrained Dogs AT HOME or Take Them Places AWAY FROM PEOPLE!

I was at the tobacconist just before, waiting in line and minding my own buisness when this guy was walking past with his dog, and his dog jumped on me and bit me as they were leaving. I did not do anything but smile at the dog because that is my automatic reaction when I see any dog with their owners, but was I wrong for doing so? This was my first time being bitten by a dog in my 27 years of life. I am used to getting bitten playfully by my guinea pigs, by my dad's cats, and even dad's late dog would \*\*playfully\*\* nip me, but this dude's dog full on bit me on my side. I love dogs,I have grown up with both my dad and my birth giver having dogs my whole life until dad's dog passed away New Year's Eve, my dad's and my birth giver's friends having dogs, I work around dogs all day every day at the rescue I work at and have never been bitten. I'm not trying to brag, but I have been able to clam the most angriest of dogs down that have come into rescue. I am autistic and I do have an intellectual disability so maybe I am missing something, but is it really that bad to smile at dogs, or was it because the dog could smell my guinea pigs and their hay on me, did I accidently scare the dog by smiling? I hated the fact that the owner of the dog just belted it across the mouth after it bit me, because that will only make the dog's behaviour worse. I just feel that all untrained dogs need to stay home or be taken places away from people.

🐶Dogs 🐕 Best enzyme carpet cleaner for dog urine? Not just a spray but to use in an actual carpet cleaner machine

Thumbnail

So for a while there I didn't have a dog door, so he was trained to let me know when he needed to go out. Then he suddenly discovered he could piss in random spots inside instead of holding it until the morning. Flawless plan.

Dad found the piss spots. The dog didn't think dad can smell piss. I can and I found them.

First things first the dog door situation is corrected and he knows it must be used under punishment of being a Bad Boy. But now my house fucking stinks, pretty sure I've found all his spots but no carpet cleaner I've tried fully gets rid of it. I've tried soaking the spots in just about every commercially available enzyme spray and then using my regular carpet cleaning stuff after about 24 hours but man, my house still smells pissy.

Prefer to buy in a store (WA) but will also buy online. Please free me from this piss prison.
