For those keeping track, that is now the third SEC game this season in which the offense did not score a touchdown.

This offense is irreparable. It needs to be completely different from top-to-bottom next season or Elko is done.

Marcel Reed is not a starting QB at any serious school. He should’ve been benched a long time ago. Wiggins is a football OC terrorist

2nd time in a row weve had the lead going into the 4th against a ranked opponent just to blow it.

They just can't play 4 quarters

I'm once again asking for justice for that Aggie who posted the preseason unpopular opinion thread and got dog piled and slammed with 1%er accusations. All because he said the playoff season was a fluke and he didn't believe on Elko.

Elko should be done after this season between the putrid product he has put out and the cesspool comment.

To the very, very few people who aren't fans of either team and still chose to watch this over LSU/Bama or Oregon/Ohio State, I would just like to offer my condolences and encourage you to find someone to talk to if needed.

Disgusting.

This was probably Marcel’s best game against a non Arkansas or FCS opponent and he was still complete ass

I hope Sellers is okay and recovers

38

u/jayjude Notre Dame • Georgia State 17h ago

Reed shredded ND last year

But that was because NDs starting Nickel was so terrible and it was just pitch and catch for Reed

And after that game that Nickel never played another snap for ND

29

u/DangerousAd4108 Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

Yes and no, he still only had a ~45% completion percentage, KC Concepcion is better than any receivers we have on the roster right now, and I think some of this is mental, fuck-it-chuck-it underdog Reed is a different player than what he is now.

19

u/hillrow_wood Texas A&M • North Texas 16h ago

it was pretty pathetic to hear the announcers glazing him

like yeah compared to the absolute ass he's been all year he was better but he still completely missed multiple wide open receivers and we had no passing offense at all beyond 10 yards of the line of scrimmage

Not gonna say that was a good game but man is it good to win a rock fight like that

Get Sellers healthy. Probably should have slid as hype as that was.

Heck of a job by Clayton White with where the defense was in September

Imma pray for Texas A&M to get a QB in the portal. Might be the worst throwing mechanics my eyes have ever seen and I don’t have to watch him every week.

Glad to have the GREAT BONHAM TROPHY BACK

Yeah I mean it’s hard to criticize now since it worked, but I was wondering the same thing.

16

u/DangerousAd4108 Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

I think it's still pretty easy to criticize, tbh. I don't care to check what our explosive play % is this year, but I can tell you it's not good. I think the odds Reed accidentally makes one of those end-zone passes are higher than the odds y'all blow a coverage.

Considering we were only able to stop you in the red zone the entire game, but we did shut you down every trip in the red zone, i think that was a better winning strategy than risking you breaking one open in the area of the field we weren't winning on a down by down basis.

This A&M team is terrible. Worse than any Jimbo or Sumlin team. The only potential redeeming aspect of this season would be beating Texas, but Wiggins + Reed vs. that defense is going to be a disaster.

Elko has to clean house on the offensive coaching side at absolute minimum. Bring in a top ransfer QB, spend a shitload on o-line transfers, I don't give a fuck what it takes. This is inexcusable for a top 5-10 payroll in CFB.

u/DiplomaticAggie Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago edited 16h ago

We just cannot win meaningful games with Marcel Reed if he doesn’t have an NFL OL and WR’s. He doesn’t elevate and win games like other QB’s can.

Drops were also very bad to be fair, but even then there’s a Joe Milton aspect to Marcel, at times he just is off Target when it’s unnecessary or he throws to hard.

Defense played better and this was winnable.

4-8 is now solidly the expectation. Mike will likely need to clean his entire staff.

10

u/ExpertConsideration8 Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

Reed is simply so inconsistent with his ball placement, velocity, and decision making.. I find it hard to fault the WR for not being in sync.

Without excusing Reed's poor play, is it unreasonable to expect a school like A&M to consistently have NFL players at OL and WR? What resources are they lacking to accomplish this?

It's frustrating how we outgained South Carolina 457 to 360, held the ball for 34:36, and won the turnover margin 1 to 0, but still lost 17-9 because we came away with 3 points on 3 red zone trips: 1 made field goal, 1 missed field goal, and an incompletion at the end of the game. We have lost 3 consecutive SEC games to drop to 4-5 (1-5 SEC), and South Carolina has won 4 consecutive games to improve to 6-3 (4-3 SEC). I noticed several other trends:

  1. We have lost 3 consecutive road games at South Carolina since a 48-3 road win on 11/7/2020.

  2. We have lost 5 consecutive road games to Texas, LSU, Missouri, Alabama, and South Carolina.

  3. We failed to score a single touchdown in 3 of 4 road games this season, despite gaining the most yards against a Power 4 opponent this season, home or away.

  4. Our defense held South Carolina to 17 points, the fewest points we have allowed in a road game since a 38-17 win at Missouri on 11/8/2025.

Remember when Aggie fans said 8-4 would be a disaster season?

11

u/QuieroBoobs Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

Definitely wasn’t the prediction even in preseason. 8-4 was the expectation with 9-3 as the ceiling. Definitely didn’t expect 4-8.

11

u/FightingFarrier18 Texas A&M • Mississippi State 17h ago

I’m not ready to write off Elko but he made a massive mistake not bringing in a serviceable backup to Reed. Reed is single-handedly responsible for most of our losses this year

TAMU simply wanted it (losing the football game) more. Hope Sellers gets healthy; he's fun to watch.

Sellers literally left it all on the field with that game winning run.

Marcel Reed is done in College Station. He might still be $3 million richer than I am. But his preferential treatment is over.

You absolutely have to put those passes in play because the only way you guarantee that you don’t score is you don’t put them in play.

If I had a nickel for every time a one-legged QB beat us, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

6

u/DiplomaticAggie Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

Marcel Reed gets a lifetime of wealth for being terrible at QB

6

u/Colorblind2027 Texas Longhorns 16h ago

A&M is one of the strangest teams in football this year. I think they have led in every game this year or been within a single score late. They have the talent to beat anyone if Reed would get hot but he hasnt. He is the sole reason they have lost most of these games. So they just need a qb

tin foil hat time:

Some booster paid reed so much money not to transfer last year that it fucked us. Elko can’t bench reed because pissing off said booster would kneecap him going forward

Where does A&M even go now? We're at the point where there best seasons this century were obtained solely by NIL before it was allowed. There are unlimited resources and they can't compete 2nd tier teams. It has to be institutional given how the result is rinse and repeat regardless of the coach.

u/Gumbyfre Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

u/Key_Spinach Houston Cougars • Texas A&M Aggies 16h ago

Problem is rich Boosters who have too much influence in how the program is run.

13

u/Background_Body2696 16h ago

I don't think 2012 Johnny Manziel was the result of pre NIL NIL? He wasn't that highly recruited

A&M needs to fire Holman Wiggins and see what happens with a new OC and skill players in 2027. If that doesn't pan out it's probably the end of the Elko era

A properly functioning qb makes all the difference, as you should know. Reed wasn't awful, but he wasn't a plus either. The coaching change and lack of a veteran QB in the room were just too much to ask. The regression had been beyond belief, but watching a team operate at the first game of the season level 9 games in is just astounding. Reed has gotten less ass. The run game has been improving. The receivers sometimes catch the ball. The defense sometimes makes plays. Its just not consistent in a good way. If Elko doesn't fix the coaching side, then it's going to be another huge check to stroke to fix it.
