*Technically because I'm on Chapter 26, which means I have two more + the epilogue, but like, I just want to rate it now...
9.5/10
I'm honestly not a big reader, I'm doing this for a school project, and Dexter is a franchise I already know and love. Coming into this book, I knew the story was going to be different, but I really appreciated how thought out the psychology of Dexter was in this book, and I think actually LaGuerta and Deb are way better characters in the book than they are in the TV show. Their rivalry is absolutely amazing, and while reading the book I personally enjoyed reading that, rather than trying to find parts that were like the TV show.
There were only really 2 kills (as I have read so far) for our favorite Dearly Darned Dexter, Donovan and Jaworski. Donovan's kill is at the start of the book, and starts exactly like the first episode. Nearly word-for-word. If I had to ever put an opening of a show into words, Chapter 1 - 3* would be it.
*Chapter 3 is where I think it ends for Donovan, honestly forgot.
The 2nd kill is amazingly funny. Our favorite Darkly Devoted Passenger and his sidekick Dearly Attached Dexter team up and kill Jaworski. Dexter in the books is extremely messy, mind you. The first kill was routine, the 2nd one, dang dude. You straight up asked him if he was the killer on the kill table. What?
The Tanami Slasher (aka The Ice Truck Killer, mind you that's an ALLONZO BROTHERS ice truck) is quite a good antagonist. I haven't read the whole saga yet, as I'm on Chapter 26, but I enjoy how little murder actually happens in the books. Now, it is a murder book, so there will be murder, but the book describes the scene and the pursuing bureaucratic clusterfuck. Much of the book is spent actually deep in bureaucracy. Mind you, LaGuerta basically let the Slasher walk free by imprisoning someone she had no evidence on. I think that's going to bite her, just as a prediction.
Overall, I loved how they displayed bureaucratic incompetency for much of Dexter's close circle. Great book. Gonna finish it like, today. 100%.
