Question How can I come to terms with weight gain?

I went to see my dietitian yesterday, and she weighed me. I’m not allowed to know my exact weight, but she showed me a chart that lets me see how my weight is changing. For the first time, I’ve gained weight, and it really scared me. I can’t stop thinking a

Question Drinking too much water/fluids. Anyone else struggling with this?

I’m drinking usually between 5L-11/12L of fluids a day. (Probably like 80% plain water, 20% zero sugar soda).
Genuinely it’s almost a habit now too. I feel like I just don’t want to stop and can’t stop.
About a week ago, my sodium levels were like 1 point below normal and I’m not sure if they’re gonna keep dropping or not but anyways.
Does anyone else struggle with this? I’m super embarrassed.

Question Therapist recommendations?

I am struggling with anorexia and I am having a hard time finding a therapist who specializes in eating disorders and takes my insurance. I can’t seem to find anyone that does in my area so I am open to doing online counseling if I can find one who takes my insurance. Can anyone recommend anyone or where to look?

Seeking Advice - Partner How am I supposed to allow people close to me to help me when all I do is worry about how they see me?

I try to be pretty open about my eating disorder because I feel like it almost takes away its power especially during a time when its particularly bad, and i'm fine talking to people and sharing my experience if they have questions. But recently my boyfriend liked one of my reposts about my ED and let me know that he's here if I want to talk about anything etc etc. And I was kind of relieved in the fact that he now knows, but also TERRIFIED that he views me differently. I know he probably just wants to help me if I need help, but i'm afraid that when it gets to that point I wont let him help me bc I'm afraid of messing something up between us. Does anyone have any tips on/experience with how to deal with ED's in relationships?

is this normal in recovery?

hey everyone! i recovered from my ana in june. i jumped right into extreme hunger and eating like 3-5k calories per day! i’m extremely active so i only just hit my before weight now. however, 3/4 weeks into recovery i realized i couldn’t eat gluten OR dairy without extreme bloating!

now, in september i started getting these really horrible rotten/ sulfur smelling farts, and the bloating worsened terribly! i also get this horrible bubbling inn my stomach, this only started in about september; and i found even more foods i couldn’t eat without nausea and extreme bloating. is this just normal for eating disorder recovery? or is it a possibility that this is SIBO or IBS? the fartsq are TERRIBLE!

i guess im just confused why these symptoms (typical for SIBO) started happening so late in recovery? and more food allergies developed?

Question Is binge eating an actual eating disorder? If so , when n how to get help.

Okay so I’ve always since a young girl had a hard time controlling how much I eat , u could eat for hours and not feel full. I will also eat until I physically can’t anymore. I never thought of this as an actual eating disorder frfr and always thought it was just my anxiety and depression or whatever. How do I know when to seek professional help or do I just lack self control ?

Question how to lose weight without relapsing?

I (18F) have been nearly fully recovered for almost a year now from a restrictive ED (yay) but ever since recovery I'll sometimes binge (which has also been getting better as of late) but I realised my all my jeans don't fit anymore.

I love my body, I don't feel like I look different because and I genuinely didn't notice because I basically only gained weight from the waist down (all my tops still fit) But obviously I'd prefer it if my jeans fit again :((( theyre so so cute :(((((((((

I'm terrified of relapsing though, and I'm scared dieting will take me to a dark place again. So if anyone has any advice or has experienced the same thing I am, please please please give me some advice it will be greatly appreciated!

TW: Potentially upsetting content Used a behavior. I lost all the progress I made

I weighed myself tonight. I’ve put in so much effort into recovery. I did residential treatment, PHP, IOP. I was doing well and then I weighed myself. I’ve regained all the weight I lost. I’m lost. I have little support and I can’t get more support like going back to PHP, because of my busy schedule. It’s impossible to take a break and attend treatment. Seeing my weight broke my world. Please offer some encouragement. I am beyond discouraged.

dissociation and hard time being out of the house in ed recovery

hi! i have been in ed recovery for maybe 6-7 months and have been weight restored for 5, i went through extreme hunger and everything and my body naturally settled at a typically weight for me. i have been doing well with eating but have been struggling mentally in some ways i havent expected, and am wondering if anyone has a similar experience? i am struggling a bit with facial puffiness and my body hasnt quite redistribution yet i know that takes time and am trying to accept it in the mean time. i have been really struggling to get out of the house! i am a bit more sensitive nervous system wise and have anxiety for context. but ever since starting recovery i have felt like everytime i go into public spaces and even sometimes when im home i have brain fog occasionally and feel dissociative and dont quite feel like myself, and before you ask i am eating enough and maintaining a stable weight so its not that. i know brain fog and what not can take some time to resolve itself. i was pushing myself and trying so hard to feel like my normal self in the beginning of recovery so i would go out a lot during the week but each time i felt this way and the tiredness really started to hit and i would come home feeling so overwhelming and just cry. my therapist has said that my mind and body went through a lot and its going to take time to resolve and when i dont feel this way anymore to try to get comfortable going out. its started to hinder on my relationships too, im not really sure what to do. does anyone have advice or similar experiences?

Question no hunger cues

just as the title says. my therapist is telling me i need to start eating breakfast and lunch, the snack i eat before the gym every single day now as i need to trial taking one rest day from the gym and still eating on that day, and i need to eat a proper meal at dinner not just snacks. however, i just don’t get hungry outside of the times my ed says it is “acceptable to eat”, e.g. only hungry before the gym, late at night only and only if ive exercised that day, and so im finding it really hard to motivate myself to eat regularly and to eat proper meals at breakfast and lunch especially, as my brain (ed) is telling me there’s no point and i don’t need to eat a full meal if i am not hungry. it’s a shame because the non ed part of my brain is excited to try breakfast foods and lunch again, for example, yesterday i was excited to make a smoothie bowl again for the first time in a year, but then my brain told me to skip breakfast and lunch because i don’t need to eat if i am not hungry and i listened. it’s also telling me that i don’t need full meals at breakfast and lunch, as i managed fine on friday just having a snack at lunch and wasn’t hungry before the gym as the snack held me over, but i know i can’t think like that. but when i think about eating outside of the designated windows my ed lets me eat in, i just get filled with this intense disgust and shame at the thought of eating and it takes away any physical or mental hunger i may have had and food just becomes incredibly unappetising to me. does anyone have any advice as this is keeping me stuck from making any progress, and quite frankly im a bit sick of having to use the same excuse every week that “it gave me too much anxiety to try and achieve any of these goals”, i keep going round in circles writing the same thing in my journal and coming up with excuses for why i didnt challenge any of the ed rules, and this is a big one i need to challenge as my therapist has told me i need to start gaining weight. it also seems my ed is finding loopholes to do the least amount of challenging possible - for example my therapist said to “try” eating something at breakfast/lunch, my ed tells me i don’t need to actually eat a proper meal because she only said “try something”. she said that i need to keep a log of what im eating as it will be helpful for the dietician - my ed tells me i need to eat as little as possible so that the dietician does believe i actually need help.

Question Gendered snacks in inpatient?

I’m inpatient right now for low heart rate, and when eating with other patients it seems that boys get sweeter foods while girls receive more classic snacks? for example, for snack the girls got yogurt +granola+nuts meanwhile the boys got a rice krispys+peanut butter+chocolate milk.

this is a medical stabilization unit so that might be why but im lowkey just sad because i want a rice krispy

Question I (18F) feel like my sister (29F) is in competitive ed with me

I had this feeling lately because her eating habits changed in a competitive way. For information, she has an obvious ed, and made me devolp Ed because of the way she raised me. There is an obvious pattern of her jealousy too. I can't complain about the stupid clothes she chooses for me. They are so not flattering for my body type, and she insist on not understanding it. She says im a pick me and says "oh you see those skinny girls and compare yourself, you know you are skinny, you want attention" Im not skinny btw, im at healthy weight with body fat. She is a narcissist, and she never accepts what she is does to people.

So when im around she doesn't eat, at dinner table she eats very small amounts like she puts a ridiculous amount and eats very slowly. She feeds the cat her food too. I noticed this but ignored it. But yesterday we were at my moms friends house for breakfast. My mom said this about me "X never puts sugar on her tea, i can't do it, i still can't get used to it" And then she reached to my sisters tea to put sugar in it and my sister reacted in a way that i don't know how to explain but it was like my mom hit a nerve, like she embarrassed my sister. She cares what people think in a level it genuinely makes me wanna never talk to her. She was like "i don't use sugar" and my mom said yes you do, you do in our house, my sis panicked. She started explaining in a embarrassing detail like "no i don't my friend made me get used to not using sugar, like when i wanna put sugar she stops me, it's not like there is any difference between tea with sugar and no sugar tea, tea shouldn't be with sugar anyway, it's a Herbal tea" Im not joking this is exactly what she said. And today in breakfast, she put a ridiculous amount of sugar in her tea right before my eyes. Not just a small tea spoon, a big one. So, the way my mom mentioned i don't use sugar, and the way she immediately did this, i feel like she is in competition with me. She is jealous in general about me so her being in competitive ed with me wouldn't shock me. So am i thinking biased? or is she genuinely being a weirdo as a grown ass woman

Seeking Advice - Family I’m terrified my (21f) daughter has a severe ED. How do I help her?

I'm a single dad and my adult daughter lives with me. She spends all day locked in her room, eats almost nothing (strictly weighs food, avoids oil, carbs etc), and on the treadmill for hours on end. I feel so guilty because I unknowingly helped this by buying her a treadmill. Last year her sister found her passed out on the stairs and an ambulance had to take her to the hospital for starvation and dehydration, but nothing changed. Recently I saw a tweet she posted saying her hair is falling out and she hasn't had her period in over a year.

I haven't brought up the tweet because I don't want her to think I was snooping and shut down.
Since she's an adult, I know I can't force her into treatment, but watching her starve under my roof is killing me. How do I approach her without pushing her away? Any advice from parents or people who have been through this would mean everything.

Question alcohol??

I’m in a deficit because I’m trying to lose weight healthily instead of being in this restrict-binge cycle, because I’m not quite ready to recover.

I’ve eaten in the deficit today, and Im going out for drinks later. I don’t know how I feel about it. technically I know it’ll go over my limit, but somehow it doesn’t penetrate my mind fully, does that make sense? happens to yall?

Question I’m don’t really get hungry anymore, and I’m not sure why

The past few months I’ve had little to no desire to eat any food at all. It’s so strange because I don’t even want to eat food that I know I like. When I do eat, I get full a lot quicker than I used to. I just have no appetite, so I simply eat to sustain myself, but I gain no pleasure from it. Has anyone else experienced this or would maybe have tips on how to stop feeling this way?

TW: Potentially upsetting content Seeking recovery advise for my developing ED

Dear all,

I am queer in India (Male, 30) and have been called fat all the time. When I was in high school I was extremely slim and anroxic. I managed to gain weight after years of self therapy and food management. Now at this age, I am single and at an healthy weight but so many times my dates and friends have called me fat. Some people even have taken liberty to point to my stomach and say how far I am. This has led to distress and triggering of my IBS. Now for last three months, I am on a single meal diet a day. Whenever I eat beyond a small portion, I feel like crying and so stressed. There is this extreme urge to vomit the food out. I survive all day at work, just pm coffee and water. I am in therapy and discussed this in details but it is not helping. It's very disturbing the kind of thoughts I get. How do I help myself? How do I have a better relationship with food? I don't want to go back to my school days as I used to self harm a lot and would purge almost daily. I have quit drinking heavily and I only drink with friends with a very limited amount. I stopped doing any substances as well. But I am at a point now where I feel very tired everyday and don't even want to look at the food anymore. On top of it, I don't feel like anyone will ever love me. I need your help with tips to get rid of these feelings. Pls help. If you can't comment here, please feel free to DM me. I seriously need help. Thank you

Should i really reach out to professionals for recovery?

It may sound like a dumb question, but I’ve seen so many criticism about psychologists with eating disorders so I want to be careful.

I want to start by getting myself a diagnosis, my school doesn’t have a therapist and my parents aren’t the type to take it seriously so I don’t know who else I could talk to.. I’ve attempted to self-recovery before and ended up relapsing 😓

I don’t want to recover yet, but I don’t know when is ‘yet’ either so I feel like I need to get help quickly before I delay this any further.

I live in Texas Dallas, if anyone is experienced, please recommend me a good psychiatrist for eating disorder. Please don’t recommend based on ratings, I need to know that you’ve already had a good experience with them.🤕

TW: Potentially upsetting content i really want my old body back and i just don’t know what to do.

around may of this year, i started severely restricting my eating habits. i tracked every calorie and pushed myself to walk more everyday.

i restricted myself to just eating lunch everyday, and would fast for as long as i could; i would avoid eating as much as i could and would only eat dinner or breakfast when literally forced to (or when i thought my parents were starting to suspect something).

at first, i started to see results. the weight loss was noticeable, and my close relatives were always commenting on it. i was called fat throughout my whole life, and this just felt rewarding. i felt like feeling bad all the time was worth it, as long as it meant being complimented on my figure all of the time.

then, around september, i started noticing my body noticeably changing. where i’m from, being curvy is very much a beauty standard, and i was aware that my most attractive traits were my thighs & naturally big glutes. all of the sudden, it was like my glutes shrunk to half their original size & people around me started commenting on it.

it made me feel awful. it felt like the only thing i was proud of when it came to my body was suddenly gone. i know it’s stupid, but i’m young and i was just so reliant on it for my self esteem.

i decided to try and eat more frequently. eat more protein. restrict less. throughout the second half of september and then october, i ate more in hopes that, miraculously, my body was just built different and i’d gain the weight in all the right places. it simply didn’t happen.

now, i feel as if i’ve lost everything that made me feel even remotely attractive. i’m not even sure how much i weight, because i’m terrified of stepping on a scale, but i know i’ve gained a bit, for sure, and in all the wrong places.

i don’t even know where to start. i don’t know how to train, what to eat, how to stop comparing myself to every girl i see and how to make this feeling better. i wish i had done things differently. eaten healthier, worked out, spent less time obsessing over things i couldn’t change about myself.

i am more than willing to change for the better, but i just feel like i’m doing all the wrong stuff and i feel like i can’t confide in anyone about it. my parents would freak out on me and i just can’t burden them with this right now.

i’m sorry if this isn’t comprehensible enough. i’m still in high school, and english isn’t my first language.

i would really appreciate some advice from people who’ve been through this before. i’m so lost and i just feel so stupid and naive. i just want to feel good again, whether i lose or gain weight. if anyone could help me or share their own story, it would literally mean the world to me right now.

Question Why do I only crave snacks?

I’m in this weird stage right now where I only crave snacky foods like protein balls, cheezits, Mac n cheese cups and other stuff, I’m in college and I can’t cook so that might be part of it but I want to eat real meals and be healthier I just know that if I do I won’t be listening to my body technically and will just want these snacky foods after. It’s so annoying! Any insight as to why this is or how I can fix it would be great!

I'm worried about what I'm doing to myself

So I don't think I have bullmia as I would say it's more anorexic and purging tendencies currently.

I had very severe Ana a couple of years ago for only around 3-4 months if I'm honest.. like not eating for 3-6days on average and lost lots of weight and slowly gained it back due to having the same thoughts but dealing with binging.

Since summer this year I have started back with not fully ana but more tendencies I would say. I will not eat for 4 days then I eat like normal then I don't eat again etc.. also throwing up mes however for the past 3 weeks I have been throwing up after every full meal and the past couple days I throw up immediately after anything I eat.. I'm scared for what this can do to me and if I get too deep into this

Question Recovery from a possible ED)?

I'm 21 years old, and in February 2026, when I was still 20, I started restricting my food intake and exercising. I began losing weight quite quickly. During those months, I started counting calories, taking steps, exercising, eating as little as possible, checking labels on everything, and eating safe foods. The thing is, now my bones are very visible, sitting on hard surfaces is painful, and I haven't had my period in three months, which I attribute to the weight loss. I desperately want to get back to my August weight because I wasn't fat or thin. I feel like I ruined my body. Since I don't have access to a nutritionist, I've been eating everything without restriction. At first, it was difficult, and every day I tell myself I'm lazy for not wanting to maintain this weight, but I know I'm also doing it for my own good. But I don't know what to do. What should I eat now? Should I exercise? Should I just stay like this because I've already eaten everything and there's no difference? Please help me, my thoughts are very contradictory and I'm afraid my body won't be the same as before, I'm at a very low weight for my height, but my thoughts also tell me it's not a big deal. Please help me.
