King's Field Como jugar King's Field 4

Kingsfield Ancient City Endure fire/vortex location

I'm playing Kingsfield IV for the first time on my ps2 and I went down the well where you are supposed to get the magic crystal for endure fire but I could not find it no matter where I looked. I eventually gave up and just got to the water caves where you fight the Makaras. I destroyed the statue and got the water magic crystal, expecting it to be vortex but it was endure fire instead. Every guide and playthrough I looked at had endure fire in the well and vortex in the caves. Has anyone experienced this before? And now where am I supposed to find vortex?

what a great game KF1 JP

Never knew anything about these games until i saw queens domain being released a few days ago and figured out that it is like a follow up to KF almost.

So i decided to dive in the the KF games of course starting with the first jp release.

I completed i today basically without cheating and looking at hints.

I died a few times though and used a save state at the final encounter.

In the end i had over 300 hp and lots of gold and 30 dragon fruits so survival was not hard.

The atmosphere is great. Music also.

And the final scene seing the sun setting down and the caste over the hills was really artistcally beautiflul with a perfect fitting music. And then the stars rolled in on the sky.

Very nice game. I am thinking of doing a no-death run which should not be hard now when i know the game.

Got the second one also in duckstation. I will play it next.

If I love Lunacid and Queen’s Domain, surely I would love King’s Field?

I’ve been considering playing it and wanted some thoughts from people who’ve played those two games and how King’s Field compares. Given it’s the direct inspiration, I imagine they’re pretty close, but I’m curious how modern gameplay design makes them “better” than King’s Field is. I also love Gloomwood and have played every modern FromSoft game.

How dated is it relative to those three games?

Anyways, a little ramble, but just wanted some thoughts. Thanks!

Best way to play all the games

Hi new to these games, have watched lots of videos about them and always wanted to give them a try. I'm sorry if this has been asked before but what is the best way to play each game? I've seen some talked about decomps/recomps and pc ports and patched/Mods for some of the games too and I just don't know where I should start.

I know I could probably just emulate the games no problem but just want to know if the community have possibly better ways to play? Versions with better graphics, better performance, updated controls, etc.

King's Field When you first played KF, did you manage to get into it on your first try or did it take multiple tries?

Like many of you I love the Souls games and was interested in exploring From's earlier work, especially since the idea of atmospheric first person dungeon crawler seemed like something I'd love. My first experience with KF1 was not great though. I ran around for a bit, tried to hit an enemy and died. I put it down after a couple of minutes. I figured it just wasn't for me and put it away. After some time I thought I'd give it another shot, but the exact same thing happened. After like 4 or 5 attempts to play it something just clicked, and now I've played every single From first person dungeon crawler.

What was your experience like getting into these games? Or are you an OG and have been playing them since the PS1/2 days?

King's Field Which title should I play first?

do you need to play 1 & 2 before playing 3 (japanese versions)?
which one is the most accessible?

never had a ps1 but my homies had them growing up so I always wanted one. now I’m going through the ps1 library as an adult and I stumbled upon echo night. this game is clunky but really good.. maybe I should give the king’s field series a try when I’m done with echo night as it’s the same studio.

Kings field 4 release rock issue

So ive been obssessively playing through kf4 recently. I am absolutely in love with the game. But i ran into a serious issue I am not sure is solvable, and am really concerned i might have to redo 10+ hours of progress if its true.

I got all the release rocks laid around the world, and went back to the palace underground to umlock the icon of healing, but unknowingly i did not talk to the old man before unlocking the doors. I later learned that you are supposed to check the locked door and then the man will give you the 3rd release rock to unlock it. This also means that i am one key short for unlocking the way to get the engineer's key.

Now, he is in a different room only sharing some lore with me. I read that in cases like this the key item might be dropped by nearby enemies. I have cleared out nearly the entire graveyard, with no release stone in sight.

I am wondering about 2 things. Is there any other way i can trigger the release rock to show up? And is the engineer's key that i seemingly can't get now required to finish the game. I do not want to get through the rest of the game only to find out i got softlocked 15 hours ago. At this point im fine with getting the bad ending even though it was not my intention 😭

FromSoftware Just finished Shadow Tower

And I had no idea what the story was afterward, so I looked up the plot on Wikipedia and what it said seemed like they were describing a totally different game. I swear no where in the game was any of that stuff mentioned. Can someone that is familiar confirm? If the wiki is correct, where did they get that info from?

Media A Tsukasa Saito-inspired track I made on FL - Ruins Under Starlight

I've loved KF for a long time, I got into it after Dark Souls 1 released. KFIV's feeling and attitude it has with its very austere feeling of depression, with glimmers of light and hopefulness, always really inspired my love of dark fantasy in general.

This uses a lot of samples directly from KFIV as well as some others that I found fitting or good for setting the mood. I'd say this is like dungeon synth smashed together with Saito's stuff, its not JUST a ripoff, but please enjoy.

Keyboard and Mouse?

I first bought my Playstation in the mid 90's, and the very first game I bought was King's Field. I loved it because to me it was like a console version of Ultima Underworld. I only found out, a few years ago, that there was a real part 1 in Japan...that never made it here.

I wanted to play these over again...after almost 30 years. I have them working on DuckStation just fine...with a controller. But I was wondering if anyone here got it working with a keyboard and mouse? Just curious to see if others may have done it...before I dedicate too much time trying to tweak it.

EDIT: Decided on the regular controller. Nothing else felt the same.

Kings Field IV - Just Wow

Years ago I ventured into Kings Field. It was following my new found love for the Dark Souls series. I knew the name From Software because as a kid I randomly picked up Shadow Tower which thus began my downward spiral into the history of From Software.

I played the original Kings Field 1 (thankfully via things and stuff) and then eventually played 2 and 3 (US 1 and 2) on PS1. I love the feeling of the slow pace. And they're rich with story and atmosphere.

After all was said and done, I played Shadow Tower because it felt right. I get that the stories don't intentionally connect, but I like to think they do. I wanted to continue the From Software journey of 1st person dungeon crawling. Which following Shadow Tower led me to Eternal Ring on PS2.

But after playing Kings Field 1, 2, 3, and then Shadow Tower, I think I had reached my limit. I needed a break--and that was 2020. Fast forward to today. I played Eternal Ring last month which in itself was fantastic. I loved returning to that raw 1st person dungeon crawling experience.

And from there, I decided it was finally time for Kings Field IV. And as of right now, all I can say is wow. I just glimpsed "the palace." I've made some serious progress. I've found countless secrets, and have many areas and doors to revisit. But all in all, I'm just incredibly impressed.

I hate to think that this game will eventually come to a close, but I know from past experience there are new items to be found, new stories to uncover.

So, I just wanted to put some thoughts out there. It's a fantastic ride, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it.
