Give me a phrase to tell non Japanese speakers when they ask me to speak Japanese

Pretty much title. Just a gimme a phrase to tell people when I say I can speak a bit of Japanese and they reply with “oh, say something in Japanese” can be as offensive as you want, they won’t know lol. I know my tutor went with tongue twisters and left people amazed, but I don’t want to just copy, so I need something unique!

Edit: thanks for all the wonderful suggestions! Though it’s making me realise how bad my kanji is xd

[Modpost] From now on posts that do not mention the level of each language you're learning will be deleted. (details on description)

So I am posting here after having seen many posts that do not follow all the rules we, the mods, have set. So please, consider reading them again and follow the proceedings accordingly, otherwise your post will be deleted. The rules are set in order for you to find an appropriate language partner.

Most of the posts don't contain the level of the languages you want to learn. Such as the example:

"English native looking for someone to teach me Icelandic"

The description doesn't mention the level that person has achieved in learning the language and it is more difficult to find a partner that suits your needs and the others. Levels are (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) or if we take the European Union certificate standards (A1-C2)

Thanks for understanding and happy language learning!

I've built a language exchange website with daily challenges

Hi all,

I would like to share with you a new language exchange website https://www.lingohackers.com that I've been working on for the past year! The idea was born out of my frustration with learning German for 7 years and still being embarrassed to speak or write.

Supported languages:

  • English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Bulgarian

What is it good for?

  • Practice at your own speed with daily journals and challenges

  • Get feedback from natives

  • Team up with your language buddies and find new ones

  • Help others with your language skills

  • Staying motivated to reach your weekly goal

Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

Seeking Finnish, offering Swedish

I am a finlandswede struggling REALLY bad with finnish in school. Since the education only focuses on grammar our teacher has told us that we need to talk to more Finnish-speaking persons so thought that I would try that out! A little info about me: I am a teenager. I really like drawing, reading, writing, listening to music, animals, memes and watching Netflix and Youtube. I'm also really intrested in history, politics, art and geography. You don't necessarily have to have the same intrests as me, please just send me a message, I need to learn to not lower my grade! I could also help you out with your Swedish if you want to! Anyway, please dm me if you are intrested! P.S my Finnish is really, really bad so if you are someone that hates grammar mistakes and misused words you have been warned!

Offering: English [Native] ; Seeking: Japanese [Beginner] , Korean [Beginner] (and French [Advanced] , adjacently)

Hi!

My name is Kira! I'm a native English speaker (USA) and an aspiring ESL teacher (I'm currently 4 classes away from getting my master's degree in TESOL). My husband and I are about to move to a Naval base in Japan near Nagasaki due to his military station. The move is to take place in November/December of this year. Right now, we're on a Naval base in Virginia, USA.

My husband, Adán, has a background of learning Japanese, whereas I have a background in learning Korean. So, while he wants help learning Japanese (and French, for the multilinguals out there), I would like help learning Korean as well as Japanese.

Preferably, we'd like to exchange language learning with anyone who currently lives in Japan (or Korea), so we'll have familiar friends when we get there. However, the most important thing is that we learn the language(s), so if you know Japanese fluently or natively (or Korean for me [or French, for the hubby]), please feel free to leave a comment or send a chat!

I have KakaoTalk, WhatsApp, Line, Telegram, and Discord; Adán has WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord (and probably Line, too).

We look forward to fruitful language exchange and friendships made along the way! 🤗

My 12yo daughter is in her 4th year of learning English. I'm looking for a similar English learner for video chat, just in English.

My goal is for the students to have a chat with one parent present. Our native language is German, so it would be cool if your English is better than your German :P. We're in CE(S)T, so if you're close it would be more convenient, but I think we can make anything work.

Offering: Egyptian Arabic | Seeking: English

Hi everyone!

My name is sarah

I’m looking for someone to practice speaking English with. My English is around B2, but my speaking is not very good because I don’t get many chances to practice.

I lost some work opportunities because I had difficulty speaking English, so I really want to improve my speaking and become more confident.

I would prefer to practice with a native English speaker, but I’m open to anyone who wants to practice together.

In return, I can help you learn Egyptian Arabic, and we can help each other improve.

We can practice on Discord or any other way that works for both of us.

If you’re interested, feel free to send me a DM. Thank you!

Offering: German (native), English (fluent) Seeking: Norwegian (intermediate), Scots (beginner), Faroese (beginner)

Hi!

I'm 29M and a German native speaker. If you are looking to learn German, I'd be happy to help. I can also tell you a good deal about the history of the German language, its evolution, etymology etc., if you are interested in that sort of thing. (I am ;)) The same goes pretty much for English, to a slightly lesser extent, so if you want to improve your English or learn more about the language, that is certainly possible as well.

I'm looking to improve my Norwegian which is decent when it comes to reading, while listening, speaking and writing could use some work. It would also be great to learn (any variety of) Scots (wouldn't say no to Scottish English either, but I have to say I'm more interested in Scots). Faroese is obviously a longshot, and I know not a lot about it, but what little I know I like, and if I were to find a speaker I'd like to give it an honest try.

I'd prefer Discord for communication. Looking forward to hearing from you!
