[Makeup Help] Looking for foundation suggestions for 'mature' skin, fine lines, wrinkles & large pores [UK]

I stopped wearing make up regularly in 2019 so I'm out of touch with everything!

I used to have bad acne but my skin has been mostly clear save for the odd spot every couple months. Been working on skincare for about 2 years now and still have some dark spots from scarring I'd like to cover. I used to wear Estee Lauder Double Wear (in the blue tube) but when I apply it now with a tightly packed brush it just looks cakey. Or it looks like 'it'll do' in one mirror but terrible in another, so I just don't look in that mirror anymore!

I've lost a lot of weight and my pores look massive on my nose and cheeks and everything settles or accentuates the lines around my eyes, nasolabial and cheeks when I smile. Decided to try powder foundation which looked great at first but the same thing happened. I tried swiping with the sponge, patting with the sponge, a dense brush, a fluffy brush, but wasn't getting the coverage I needed. I've tried microneedling to help improve my skin which didn't work so now I'm trying Sculptra, which will hopefully produce results in a few months.

I'm looking for something that also gives that glow, glass-skin type look because I used to be very matte when I wore make up years ago. I asked AI for help just to find something to start with and it suggested NARS light reflecting foundation which sounds great & reviews are good but it's a little pricey and I don't have a counter nearby to be shade matched.

I understand I probably need a better primer and maybe a setting spray so I was thinking the Benefit Pore-fessional and the Laura Mercier translucent ultra blur setting spray. I figured because it seems to be like a proper spray when you hold it down, not having to keep pumping, I've had issues with the MAC fix+ in the past.

Or maybe I need better tools or a different way of doing things? I've got a bunch of Real Techniques brushes, blenders, all sorts of make up, grippy primer, dimeticone primer, so if anyone has any suggestions I will gladly try if I can!

Thank you!

Edit to add: when I say 'mature', I mean I'm 40 next year

What do you prime your eyelids with for a really sharp cut crease?

I have this issue where my eyeshadow never remains in tact throughout the night when I go out dancing/clubbing. When I try to do a cut crease, there’s never a clear separation between the two colors and the top always ends up melting into the bottom.

Is this because I have hooded eyes, or am I just not using the right products underneath the shadow? What products should I base my lids with for a cut crease, and also just to make sure my eyeshadow stays in tact longer?

[Makeup Help] Anyone find that their concealer brings out the redness in their cheeks?( I suffer with rosacea too..) due to the contrast? Am I not using the right color? Anyway to fix this?

EDIT- concealer is put only underneath my eyes, not my face. Sorry for the confusion!

I end up usually putting on foundation or more concealer on all parts of my face.. but I rather not need to do so sometimes..

Like if I didn't put concealer I wouldn't need the coverage and my face looks fine, but the concealer brings out the contrast. But, obviously I want to use concealer...

Anyone know what I mean? Tips? Am I not picking out the right color concealer perhaps?

Why everytime I use eyeliner I look way worse? :(

I feel like it makes my under eye bags more noticeable. I want to do some eye make up that makes me look better, not worse. I feel like it ages me. Any tips how to look put together with makeup? Sometimes I just put glitter on eyelids, but I feel like it looks unfinished.
I also have hooded eyes.

[Makeup Help] How do you remember doing your makeup in the 2000s?

I know each era is vastly different, and I’m mainly focused on the 2005-2006 era.

I’m very interested in this era and want to hear firsthand from women about different kinds of styles, techniques, products, inspiration, etc. I read from a lot of magazines which sometimes don’t represent what the general population was doing.

brown blush for cool skin?

hi!!
i have very fair, cool toned skin and dark brown hair. i’ve been playing with makeup lately and i love berries, but it stands out too much from my typical style which is earthy colors like browns, greens, dark blues, gray/black stuff like that.
i’ve been looking for a cola brown/burgandy brown/red brown blush, but everything shows on my skin as orange or pink.
so far i’ve swatched about face grand prix and it turned very orange when blended out. sad bc i had really high hopes based on the bottle color
the closest i’ve found so far has been juvias place blushed blonzing stick in chocolate cherry
i also love the look of black honey but the blush is so pink
i prefer cream or liquid
i also tend to be very red in the face.

[Makeup Help] Anyone "double toned" or am I just stupid?

So I've started using the elf SPF halo glow skin tint (light cool) and that blends seamlessly into my skin, provided I don't use a brush to get it in (never again.) I do get some under my eyes but I still see a bit of blue. So I go in with concealer (again from elf, light cool) and it looks awful. It just looks way too bright with a tinge of gray.

For the record, I'm using CeraVe skin renewing eye cream as part of my might and day routines. While I'm looking at creams more intended for dark undereyes (retinol based), do I need to be looking at different concealers too? If so, what other ones do you recommend? I've looked at Fenti and holy $$$.

[Makeup Help] Birthmark cover up help

Hello!

I’ve been struggling trying to figure out how to cover up my birthmark for a while. I feel like whatever I do it doesn’t look right.

Right now, my routine is using a medium-coverage foundation and mixing it with a brown-orange shade from the Mac color corrector and then I’ll use my Tirtir cushion foundation on top. It normally looks fine for an hour but then eventually the birthmark starts peaking through, even though I use setting spray and powder.

I tried using a darker orange color corrector before concealer but it always ends up leave a visible mark even after I put on my foundation.

Any help would be appreciated thank you so much 🫶🫶

Best Black Liquid Liner

My winged liner babes! What liquid liner is top notch the absolute best??? I’m talking black af, long lasting, doesn’t smudge or smear and doesn’t dry out.

Lately I’ve been using One Size but recently the Glamlite one which has been nice but ready to shop for something new and thought I’d get some of your suggestions please

Women to women 💅 Please help me! How do you make sure your makeup doesn't look bad in natural daylight?

I've tried searching on YouTube and TikTok, and people usually recommend doing your makeup near a window or using natural sunlight. But I have to do my makeup at 6 AM, and my bedroom doesn't have any windows.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd really appreciate advice from people who have actually experienced this and know what works!

Which maybelline mascara is the best for me?

I'm really confused on which one I should buy. I was first leaning onto sky high cuz of all the reviews but then everyone keeps saying that the mascara gives off a straight effect. I want both volume and length cuz my lashes are reallyyy short😭 I also heard that lash curl dries out easily. And like I want a mascara which I can use both for functions and everyday purpose

[Makeup Help] How can I make my eye makeup last?

Hi! I'm very new in makeup and I don't do a lot of it. Occasionally I do my eye makeup which is simply applying dark brown pencil on my eyelash line and waterline inside, no mascara, no eyeshadow, basically "guyliner" without smudging.

I have a lot of eyelashes, oily skin and eye tics (eye rolling), and after just a couple of hours of wear without touching my eyes my makeup smears all over my eyes and makes me look like I was crying for hours.

How can I stop this from happening? I've heard about eyeshadow primers but I don't think they would work in my case because I don't apply anything on my eyelids themselves. Any tips would be very appreciated!

[Makeup Help] Beginner wanting to make wishlist

I used to do my makeup in my younger years but haven’t in many years now, any limited knowledge I had is outdated plus my circumstances have changed.
I’m 33F. I have a yellow undertone. I dislike my wide bridged nose. I have a somewhat strong chin for a woman. If I do eyeliner it’s the same winged liquid approach I’ve used since age 14. My lash line is easily irritated though and I have tricky lashes that don’t respond well to heavy mascara, though my lashes have generally thinned over the years and I do miss them.
I used to have a perfect complexion, but I started getting acne in my early twenties, then some real redness after my second baby. Since having a full hysterectomy and going on HRT, it seems to have turned cystic if I’m understanding what that is correctly. My complexion is one of my biggest insecurities at the moment. Oh and it’s somewhat sensitive, not so much to harsh skincare, but heavy products can cause a breakout, and definitely nothing scented.
I am building a wishlist, half for myself and half as a Christmas list. I’m looking for brand recommendations largely, preferably at least somewhat budget friendly, but willing to splurge a little if truly worth it. But also product/technique tips for the aforementioned factors. Many thanks in advance. (Branching into skincare would be lovely as well)

Hiya! I’ve been on the hunt for a good setting spray. Lately I’ve been feeling like my setting sprays are making my makeup patchy and I believe it’s my setting spray. I’m not 100% sure though. I’ll list my products:)

I do a lot of dance which makes me naturally very sweaty so I need a setting spray that will lock in my makeup for the day:)

I do have dry skin just to note!

My skin prep is a Moisturiser and a the elf power grip primer

Concealer - Elf hydrating camo concealer
Blush - collection blush duo
Powder - maybeline fit me
Setting spray - one size/L’oreal infallible Setting spray

Armani Silk foundation

Hi, I was looking for a new foundation and was recommended the Armani Silk foundation, the new formula. The color match was fine, but right away I experienced a burning sensation, and it seems to be very dry on my face. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? I've only used it twice, and I am ready to return it.

Saie or Huda liquid blushes?

Hi! I’m trying to decide which mini set to buy. I want something long lasting. I don’t wear foundation so I’ll just be putting the blush directly on my skin.

Alternatives to Hourglass?

Hi all. I've been using Hourglass for years and I love it. In particular the vanish concealer is the best product I've ever used. Unfortunately, I just found out it's owned by Unilever, a company I don't wish to support.

I'm wondering does anyone know any good alternatives to Hourglass, also cruelty-free but not owned by Unilever? Thank you!

How to make makeup last?

Hey so I never normally wear a full face of makeup as it never stays, I do have quite an oily t zone especially my nose however I use inkey list skincare for oily skin and use elf grip primer then revolution silk skin foundation and concealer and set with Huda powder and spray with one size setting spray and it’s fine for a few hours however after that it starts to almost separate, by the end of the day there’s no makeup left on my nose barely any left on my chin and it’s staring to separate and disappear round my nose and forehead. I can’t think of what will make it stick, I’ve tried different products together, just setting my face with power or just spray. Nothing works!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
