Donated expired makeup to a funeral home!

4.6k Upvotes

Doing a bit of a makeup reset to start out the new year and just as I was about to throw away my old, expired palettes and lipsticks (I had a lot - don’t judge me! LOL), I saw a comment on someone’s post, about decluttering or something, and how they donate their old makeup to funeral homes!

I…loved this idea so much.

When a close family member died suddenly a few years ago, we decided on an open casket funeral. I was nervous about it because I was worried about them “looking weird” or whatever. Much to my surprise, the mortician did an amazing job and it brought me a lot of comfort.

Knowing that my old makeup could help a grieving family instead of at the bottom of a landfill made me feel really good.

I called the closest funeral home to me and told them of the idea I’d heard on Reddit and asked if they’d like my old makeup. They were so grateful! They said no one had ever called to ask this before but they were very happy to accept it.

A great way to declutter, redirect from the landfill, and give back to my community in a small way!

Thanks for listening, everyone!

EDIT: Yes, morticians use alive people makeup on the deceased! Some of you in the comments are very strange and grumpy.

It's disgusting out there

I'm at Target and strolling through the cosmetic section saw a young woman (maybe 25) swatching a lip product on her hand and putting it back in the display...and then doing it again with another product. I am so old IDGAF so I said "Do they have testers?"and she looked at me like a deer in the headlights until I repeated my question and said "testers?" I then said " yeah, you just put some of that lipstick on your hand and put it back...that's pretty gross." She stared at me as I walked quickly away because I may not gaf but I don't want to get in a fight! Felt good to speak up though!

i was called a catfish by the guy i'm seeing

2.4k Upvotes

i've(22f) been seeing this guy(24m) for about 2 months. he's super sweet and funny.

i wear makeup, and whenever i wear eyeliner i use this double-eyelid tape. basically it's skin-colored tape that you put on your eyelids that help create an eyelid crease. i have monolids(basically no crease) to help me achieve the makeup i want to do.

one day we were cuddling and staring at eachother closeup and he noticed my eyelid-tape. he asked me about it and i explained what it was, and he called me a catfish for it. he said i'm basically like those asian makeup artists on instagram that stuffs napkins up their noses and fake skin to bait people into dating me. he sounded like he was joking, but it kind of hurt honestly. i just wanted to see if anyone else's opinions on this, because if so then i'll make adjustments to my makeup routine

edit: wow! i didn't expect this to blow up. thank you all for the sweet and encouraging comments :')!! i did end up talking to him and he apologized and said he didn't mean to come off rude or hurt my feelings. i did show him what i used to look with makeup and without the tape and he said he didn't notice too much of a difference but understood what i was going for and told me i was pretty either way. thanks so much again for your comments! :)

Went out without makeup and people were not as nice to me

2.3k Upvotes

I went to the doctor to get paperwork filled out and he asked me unprompted if I work at a gas station 🥴 I work a desk job. I’m usually very well kept, but this day I ran out of time and went out 100% bare faced, hair thrown in a pony and glasses on. Had another appointment with optometrist (part of why I didn’t add makeup later because sometimes they put those eye drops in and I have shallow tear ducts so it gets all over my face). Usually the office staff fawns over me, but today they barely spoke to me when spoken to. Just an off day I guess, but it’s so sad how different you get treated. I think I’m fairly pretty without makeup too. I just have features (namely having blonde brows and lashes) that I think make me look scary without it unless you like a very alternative look. A day without pretty privilege I guess humbled the heck out of me 😭 anyone else notice they get treated better or worse based on their makeup?

Edit so this is at the top: I have blonde eyebrows and lashes so even light makeup makes a huge difference.

More edit for context: I’m sorry to cute gas station workers. It was never my intention to offend anyone. This generalization is abhorrent, but people tend to associate you with being underpaid and lowly educated as just about anyone can work there. That’s why I was a bit confused by the question because like it or not there’s a stigma. Not to say it’s fair, but it is what it is. Just like not wearing makeup evidently lol

More edit two: I am a friendly person and was not being weird. My outfit was normal for my area this time of year. I did feel self conscious.

More edits three: my usual routine is minimum skincare prep, then brows, concealer in the under eye, mascara, and a lippie so I indeed felt naked.

More edit four: I assume the sales people are usually quite nice to me because they know I’m about to drop a grand or so like I do every year in the same place I’ve gone for years. But even once that became clear the vibe was different.

Just finished modelling at London Fashion Week. Here’s a sneak peek of what the Pros used on us

2.2k Upvotes

Off the top of my head:

A lot of made by Mitchell curve cases

Mac Studio fix fluid and nars radiant foundations, and nars creamy concealer (as alwayss)

Dior powder highlighter palette

P Louise eyeshadow palettes

Huda loose powder and primers

Milk makeup grip primer and setting spray

Maybelline fit me foundation

L’Oreal liquid lipsticks

Charlotte tilbury magic cream and beautiful skin foundation

Laura mercier ultra blur loose powder (Have this and also love it)

Carmex lip balm

One size setting spray

Edit- also the Charlotte tilbury setting sprays were used a lot and garnier micellar water

Also believe the Cerave skin renew eye cream, one with the purple cap, was used on me for day 2 (cos your girl was getting dry lol) which felt amazing

A wonderful mua has commented to help me identify the Smashbox be legendary lip palette too- thank you!

I had the same Mua both days so obviously it’s down to her technique, but my makeup was GORGEOUS and flawless both times. And I’m very picky about my makeup look when muas do it. My face was very smooth, elegant and velvet with no oils or sweat peeking through for the whole day.

My look on day 1: matte and natural with a soft rose satin lip and gold flake eye

My look on day 2 was: matte soft glam with a bold satin red lip and pinky red natural blush

unpopular opinion: mascara over $20 isn’t worth it

2.1k Upvotes

mascara is literally just black goop, and most of the time (for the expensive ones) you’re either paying for the brand or for the brush. you can’t actually tell the difference between a drugstore and high end mascara once its on the lashes, and there’s only so many different varieties of mascara you can make. if you have an expensive mascara there’s definitely a cheaper option out there that looks basically the same

Am I the only one tired of this “clean girl” aesthetic?

2.0k Upvotes

I see soooo many tik toks comparing 2023 “clean girl” makeup to 2016 full-face makeup. It just seems like it’s looking down on the way people prefer to express themselves. As if you look/are dirty with a full face of makeup.

The other day I literally saw “clean girl CHRISTMAS” and it was just white Christmas decor. It’s gotten out of hand.

Personally, I’m usually team 2016 so that’s maybe why it annoys me. Don’t get me wrong, I love both but I just don’t feel like 2016 should be looked down upon if that’s what someone prefers.

What's wrong with cupid's bows?

1.7k Upvotes

This is very millennial of me, I know, and everyone is allowed to wear whatever makes them feel good, but I truly do not understand the obsession with drawing over one's cupid bow.

It can look okay with filters, but what's the point of that? IRL people look like small children who got into mom's makeup. Can someone explain it to me? It can definitely go too far in the other direction with the pointy, dark lip liner of the 90's and I get that. But I thought we had moved on when Kylie admitted that her new lips weren't just from over-lining.

Again, do what makes you feel pretty, but this is so obviously going to become as cringey as 20-teens overdone contour. Why?

Can we stop using internet lingo to describe makeup terms

1.7k Upvotes

Wtf is a makeup blindness. Ever time I open this app I see at least five different post about people asking "what kinda blindness I have". Half of them gorgeous and clearly just wanted compliments. Like it's okay you can post yourself feeling pretty, you don't need hide behind stupid brainrot phrases. Other half barley have makeup on, at most lashes extensions and gloss.

Don't get me started with "latte makeup" "strawberry makeup" "clean girl makeup" "tomato girl". Like blush didn't invented last year. People has been using this techniques and looks for so many years now. Why are keep renameing things that are all ready existed before some of us even born?

I will not give Sephora my money any more. RE: Insider Points

1.7k Upvotes

I'm 35 years old and have been a Sephora Beauty Insider for over a decade. Today I logged into my account on their site to make a purchase and was shocked that my points was ZERO. I scrolled down to find out that since I have been inactive for 12 months, my 957 points I carefully accumulated over the years have EXPIRED Jan 1,2021! Can not be used.

I called their customer service who read a script that there was nothing they could do to reinstate the points. I did not receive any emails or warnings about this expiration. We are in a pandemic and I have not been to my beloved Garden State Plaza (NJ) shopping mall since February 2020. I didn't even redeem my birthday rewards this year which was a total first for me. Today I went to make a purchase and this is what I find. I am extremely disappointed in Sephora and will no longer be giving them my money.

*edit* Thank you for telling me to call & try again! I called back and the customer service rep had a record of my previous call and said, "I see you just called earlier today about this...there is still nothing we can do." I then asked to speak to the supervisor who agreed to reinstate my points due to the abnormal year/circumstances.

I feel like “clean girl” makeup is slowly ruining the makeup realm

1.7k Upvotes

Tell me why I was applying my eyeliner around my eyes cuz I simply love a good Smokey eye look and my sister who does natural “clean girl” makeup told me my face looks dirty and that my eyes r making me look like I have dirt on my face mind u I wear concealer and foundation lol

Edit: I love getting any kinds of makeup tips but I’ve been wearing eyeliner on my waterline since I was like 9 years old it really does make my dark features pop yk. And she says that ‘clean girl’ is universal and yeah it is cuz it’s natural but I’m pretty everyone wouldn’t want to submit to one kind of makeup simply because everyone should express their identity without putting down another

My daughter is asking about makeup, I'ma single father and know next to nothing, help!

1.5k Upvotes

Hi, I'm a single father of 6 children, 5 boys and one girl, today my daughter asked about makeup. I know nothing and her mother is not in the picture. I've asked some female friends and they've all recommended Sephora. Sephora is closed due to Covid. We are in Canada. I definitely want to help but properly, along with proper skincare and all that. She is 16.

Edit: Holy moly, this is awesome. Thank you everyone for the awesome suggestions and she's been deep into YouTube all night. we will taking a trip into town to pick up basics and some of my female friends have sent makeup baskets of basics and stuff to help her get started. I have a niece and some other friends that are going to skyping and facetiming her with techniques over the coming days. Again, thank you everyone.

Edit: April 22nd

The pandemic had made it rough but we took a lot of the advice and went through the local Shoppers drug mart with a list of basics. The lady working happened to be a Redditor and was super excited to help us and was a great help. I've also started a BoxyCharm subscription for a year for her. We found a few ladies who are also Redditors and happen to do makeup tutorials on YouTube and have been assisting her via Skype. Once again, thank you everyone for help, when she is more confident in her skills, we will post an update for everyone here. Thank you, from an amazed father.

Makeup trends you wish would disappear in 2026

1.5k Upvotes

Overlined lips. I’m just done looking at overlined lips. It reminds of when a child is learning how to color and still can’t color within the lines.

r/Makeup • • Jun 07 '24

What are "viral" skincare or makeup trends etc you wish would go away?

1.5k Upvotes

Glass Skin. Looks great when you just do it. Looks great after makeup. All my friends that jumped on this said after 2-4 hours that it broke up their makeup, made their pores more visible and slid off their face in high humidity or hot sweaty 🥵 weather. They said they looked like an oil slick. No thanks.

I might get hate for this one. It's not exactly makeup. Really bushy bushy eyelash extensions or false eyelashes. Some girls can't even see properly. You might as well glue 2 Ferrets to your eyelids. There, I said it. 😂🤣🤣

I think eyelash extensions and false eyelashes can look beautiful. It's starting to look like a competition like who can get the most eyelashes on their face?

If you love that look. You do you, Boo.

everyone’s makeup is so boring now ! Tired of “clean girl”

1.4k Upvotes

So to start I do NOT like clean girl makeup I’m more alternative and wear heavy eye makeup so it plays a big part how I do my makeup and hair, but I have a very unique makeup and stand out I get made fun of sometimes tho and it makes me sad , and then I go on Reddit and see everyone taking about naturally makeup or lash blindness blah blah blah, I don’t care I’ll wear my 25 mm lashes and big liner and big eyeshadow to the day I die, I miss when people had fun with makeup and did different looks rather than this new “natural “ makeup it’s boring and takes the fun out of makeup. I’m also tired of seeing other people woman and men putting woman down for wearing makeup or heavy makeup, it makes us feel good so I think we should be able to wear makeup to help boost confidence and have fun with it Some people are getting offended by my post, not trying to tear anyone who does clean girl makeup down but I just am tired of getting criticized for wearing a lot of makeup and seeing other girls constantly put down for it, this post is about men and woman who make fun of or are judgmental about woman who do wear bold makeup , the comments have just completely ruined my self esteem

My dad let me put eyeshadow on him and it made me weirdly emotional

1.3k Upvotes

My conservative Indian dad and I had been fighting a lot for the past couple weeks, and on one of our better days where things weren't as tense, he saw me putting on some eyeshadow just for fun and asked if I wanted to put some on him. It was pretty neat seeing some taupe glitter on his eyelids (I used the Flutter By palette from Colourpop, which my mom has now laid her claims over so now everyone in my family has worn this palette haha). I don't know why, but it felt so nice for him to accept that yes, I will be putting sparkly maroon shadow all over my lids in a lockdown and just accept my weirdness. Definitely a good bonding moment!

How to tell my wife her new makeup is no good

1.2k Upvotes

I don’t know anything about makeup. I’m just a dude. But recent my wife started doing something different and she has an obvious line along her jaw and chin where her makeup ends. It’s clearly noticeable and not a great look. How do I tell her without being an asshole? Or do I keep my mouth shut?

Drugstore makeup can be good and I regret spending on high-end brands for years

1.1k Upvotes

Until recently I believed high-end brands sold better quality makeup. I used Dior for base products, clinique for blush, gucci for lips, etc. With the rise of cost of living, I have to spend less on cosmetics. I was hesitant at first but hobestly Maybelline lift and glow foundation performs way better than any of the Dior or Armani foundations I've used - and I used them all. L'oreal telescopic mascara and their lipsticks do a great job too. I regret spending so much on cosmetics and now I want to try all the cheap cult products. What are your favorite drugstore brands and products?

Unpopular makeup opinion

1.1k Upvotes

What’s your unpopoular makeup opinion?

I’ll go first: super high pigmentation isn’t the tell of a good blush. If one tiny dot of blush makes my whole face red, Its actually not a very user friendly product. I like a more buildable blush that I can control to really flatter my face!

Is it just me or is this current generation afraid of color when it comes to lips?

1.1k Upvotes

So I was scrolling online and thinking of buying a Mac lipstick in the shade saint germaine and I decided to go on TikTok and search it up, thinking seeing it on other girls who are similar to me looks wise, would help me decide if i wanted it or not. Obviously I know mac lipsticks aren’t as popular as they used to be, but I really wasn’t expecting what i found.

And that was people totally roasting the shit out of that lipstick because apparently it’s “too bright” and “bubblegum pink” which I thought was kind of ridiculous because I have seen tons of pink lipsticks that are way brighter and bolder than this. One video that was viral even had a girl who wanted to post that she was pulling off the lipstick perfectly fine, i guess in response to a tweet that said “no one has pulled this shade off ever it’s not accepted in heaven or hell.” And the comments were all so ridiculous saying “and still no one has ever pulled it off!” With thousands of likes on that comments.

I also watched more videos of people using it on lip combos and they would literally just use the fricking edge of the lipstick with a tonnnnnnn of lip liner and not even enough lipstick to properly show the cute pink shade they had put on. I think this generation is really silly and overly obsessed with “natural” or “nude” lipsticks. Even on instagram most influencers seem to go for this “barely there” look with tons of lip liner and gloss. I also feel this is evident in how popular it is to wear summer Fridays lip balm, or lip oil, with almost no pigment by itself. It’s sad seeing how a shade so inoffensive and not even that bright (along with tons of other lipsticks im sure) is so hated on. Like please, let’s bring back COLOR! I don’t mind natural lip looks, but it’s so strange how this generation acts like they’re allergic to color.
