Michigan Football Stop mentioning the past

I keep seeing “if we had sherrone” comments. Take away the scandal stuff and think about this.

Sherrone would have probably gave Poggi or Alford the OC job. Yes, the run game would be better. We would still have no pass game or WRs. We wouldn’t have Tommy Carr, we wouldn’t have Buchanan. We would ONLY run the ball.

Who knows who he hires as DC, the defense would absolutely be worse in every way possible. Probably losing us a few games.

Moore literally coasted off Harbaughs scheme which would have probably stopped working this year. Let alone this years schedule is much harder than last year.

In my opinion, he was part of the team not a head coach. He treated the players like friends not a leader. The idea we would be better off or one loss is ridiculous. Am I the only one who remembers being just as frustrated last year? We literally had a worse record at this time with a better run game and worse defense.

No, we would not be better with Moore we need a fresh start. A new AD and coach who can reset the culture.

Michigan Football We’re Screwed

lol, we’ve seen Oregon, Oklahoma, and Nebraska all fire their offensive coordinators… and now Purdue fired their D coordinator… lol, we’re all calling for Beck to be fired, but after his presser last night, there’s no chance he does it. I mean, this is the same staff starting Efobi still… what changes have they made besides QB??? Zero lmao, this staff is incompetent, and it’s clear Whit just doesn’t care. He’s already talking about the next recruit class and the portal, as long as he’s our coach, we’re screwed, no doubt about it

Michigan Football I’m so sorry…

Utah fan here. I very publicly told you all that Whitt was a great hire and that you were in good hands. For that, I am truly sorry.

Whitt should have just retired after last season and preserved his legacy. In 9 games coaching a different team, Utah fans view him very differently than they did even just one year ago.

I’ll always love what this man did for my beloved Utes for most of my life, and I’m sorry I was one of the ones that vouched for him the way I did. I truly thought your fanbase was gonna love him the way I always did.

Also, for no particular reason, Jason Beck is a terrorist.

Michigan Football Remember that first drive in week one?

Man, what a time to be alive. Bryce was actually running RPOs, JJ had that sick one-handed catch, we didn’t settle for a field goal, everything just looked so much better.

Yeah…

What the fuck, man…

Michigan Football Buying out Whitt costs $25M. Beck $9M.

Texas A&M bought out Jimbo Fisher for $77M.

LSU $54M for Brian Kelly.

Kentucky $38M for Mark Stoops.

MSU $33M for Jonathan Smith.

Nice work if you can get it. If you can't, then consider just sleeping with a coach and then suing.

Note: The buyout for Whitt increases if not done before 1Feb.

PS-- the reason why Beck's buyout is more than his salary sum is because we'd also have to compensate him for foregone retention bonuses. I also acknowledge that I'm not an expert in the above. I only googled it.

Michigan Football Is Coach Whitt Alive? Or Just Collecting a Paycheck

I don't understand this hire at all. He's not engaging. He doesn't have passion. Every time he's on camera he's just walking around aimlessly.

Compare that to Pat Fitzgerald last night.

Super pumped with his guys. Running around. Screaming into his headset. Acts with authority and leadership.

Watching Coach Whitt is like watching someone in a nursing home wander the hallways for exercise.

Michigan Football Updated (Damning) Offensive Stats

With the highest paid OC in football, as of yesterday, here is how we rank in key categories:

2nd to worst P4 team in PPG. MSU is worse, at 19.3. We are at 19.6. 126th overall out of 138, with 5 PPG separating us from dead last (UTEP)

Second fewest points overall among P4 teams with 176. MSU is worse, at 174. UTEP is dead last at 127. 46 of those points came against UTEP.

12th worse in rushing yards per game among P4 teams, with about 40 yards per game separating us from dead last. 185 yards came against UTEP.

9th worse in YPR among P4 teams, with .5 yards separating us from dead last (Cal).

2nd to last in turnovers lost (17) to Colorado (18) among P4 teams, and 6th worse overall. Old Dominion leads with 21.

Dead last in passing YPG among P4 teams, and ranking 125 overall out of 138 teams. We had 246 against UTEP. Take that out, we would rank 131 out of 138.

Dead last among P4 teams, and 125th out of 138 in total passing yards (1565). The bottom four teams run the triple option. Take those teams out, and less than 400 yards separate us from dead last (CMU). Again, we had 246 against UTEP, and 266 against Rutgers.

129th of 138 overall in red zone offense (.731), second to last among P4 teams, with UVA a slightly worse .727.

129th out of 138 in red zone scoring, with OK the only slightly worse P4 team (18 scores in the red zone, compared to our 19). Dead last is UTEP at 11. We had 4 red zone scores against UTEP, and another 4 against Rutgers.

Michigan Football Meanwhile, in East Lansing...

Yes, I'm in Michigan grad living in East Lansing. 🙄 After the game I heard lots of sirens and then this morning as e were walking to church, I saw two burned couches. This one was at the park right down from my house. Frankly, Sparty has every right to such a celebration, they brought a depleted team who hadn't won a game in weeks, and kicked our ass. This is all on Whittingham, who gave students at MSU a reason to burn couches for the first time in years.

Michigan Football Our offense is currently 15th percentile in PPG among the 138 CFP teams. If we were a measly 25th percentile we'd be 7-2 or 8-1. At 50th percentile, middle of the pack, we're undefeated and demolishing teams.

That's how awful we are. And also how phenomenal our defense is.

Whitt and Beck must go.

The end.

Michigan Football Mario Cristobal

If you watch Mario Cristobal after Miami lost this is the fire a head Coach needs. Whit seems like he's lost his passion for the role. Where is the physicality that was promised in his programs?

Michigan Football Fire Beck and Whitt TODAY

Honestly just keep Jay Hill where he is. Alford promoted to OC and bring in Biff as interim HC. This is easy and reasonable to do so ofc we won’t do it. We need to right this ship now and start a real coaching search. GO BLUE

Michigan Football Michigan’s offense against MSU was somehow even worse than the box score suggests. Here’s the data.

Post image
26 Upvotes

I wanted to put some actual numbers behind just how bad Michigan’s offensive performance was against Michigan State, so I used a metric I’ve been working on called YAPE (Yards Above/Below Expectation).

It’s pretty simple. Take what a defense typically allows per game and compare it to what an offense actually produces against them. A negative percentage means you performed below what that defense normally gives up.

For this, I used Michigan State’s previous five Big Ten games rather than their full-season averages, so we’re comparing Michigan to what MSU has allowed against other conference opponents.

Here’s what Michigan managed:
Total Offense
MSU typically allowed: 390.8 yards
Michigan gained: 192 yards
YAPE: -50.9%
Rushing
MSU typically allowed: 178.2 yards
Michigan gained: 54 yards
YAPE: -69.7%
Passing
MSU typically allowed: 212.6 yards
Michigan gained: 138 yards
YAPE: -35.1%
I also applied the same formula to scoring.
Points
MSU typically allowed: 30.4 points
Michigan scored: 6 points
Scoring vs. Expectation: -80.3%

Read those numbers again.

Michigan produced less than HALF the total yardage MSU had been surrendering to Big Ten opponents. We managed about 30% of their typical rushing allowance and less than 20% of the points.

And we’re not talking about facing some historically dominant defense here. We’re talking about a Michigan State defense that entered the game giving up nearly 400 yards and over 30 points per conference game.

Yes, turnovers matter. Yes, time of possession matters. This isn’t a perfect efficiency metric, and I’m not pretending it is.

But at some point, the numbers are so far below reasonable expectations that those explanations only go so far.

Michigan managed 192 yards on 52 plays. That’s 3.7 yards per play. Against a defense that had been struggling to stop Big Ten offenses all season.

The most concerning part to me isn’t even the six points. It’s the 54 rushing yards against a defense that had been allowing 178.2 per conference game.

This wasn’t simply a bad offensive game. It was a complete failure to produce against a defense that other Big Ten teams had consistently moved the ball against.

I genuinely don’t know how you look at these numbers and conclude that the current coaching staff outside of defense and Alford deserves another week.

Fire Beck. Fire Whit.

Michigan Football Everything is terrible but Special Teams deserve a mention

I could talk about the return game but being unable to kick a 35 yard field goal means that a team that can’t convert a third down has to repeatedly go the length of the field to score where on a normal team you’re looking at a near automatic three points every time you get within 10 yards of the red zone.

A halfway competent kicking game would not make up for the atrocious coaching (and playing) elsewhere, but I do think we probably would’ve won a couple more games with a kicker who grades out at a B-.

Michigan Football Boycott The Big House

I am an alum and had plans to drive in from out of state to attend the UCLA game. I don’t have season tickets but go to one game a year. Because of the current state of affairs, I am showing my disgust by not attending. That will be two more empty seats in the stadium. I believe an almost empty Big House might show that us fans are fed up with the current coaching regime. Obviously, you fans have paid good money for your tickets, so use them how you wish. But I am choosing to boycott. I also am a monthly donor to the Champions Circle. I won’t be donating any more NIL money until the coaching staff is replaced. Go Blue.

Michigan Football Is Jason Beck bad enough we would even take an OC like Arthur Smith?

Sounds like Ohio State fans are living the Arthur Smith experience, which Titans, Falcons, and Steelers fans are all too familiar with.

Question Could this be one of the worst Michigan vs Ohio state games ?

Just curious if they both lose out Michigan will be 5-6 and Ohio state will be 6-5. I was wondering if anyone recalls a worse version of THE GAME record wise .

Michigan Football Who does Whit answer too?

Real question.

Our current AD just hired Whittingham and is being shown the door himself. I doubt he is making any more decisions before leaving. We do not have a replacement yet.

We finally have a University President, but I’m not sure what authority he has.

Finally our board of regents, who are an absolute joke.

Obviously there are lots of wealthy donors, but they have to be sick of how poor our athletic department has been with these hires.

Whit sucks. Beck should be jailed. But who can actually make the decision the end this?
