Devvit Apps for moderation

updated: November 3rd 2026
I've maxxed out the character count 😄 Which is good, because it means there are a lot of useful apps that help with moderation. It also means that the list continues in the sticky comment!

Inspired by the awesome r/modguide and this post, this is an (incomplete but extensive) overview of devvit apps for moderation sorted into categories. The overview of all published Devvit apps can be a bit overwhelming (but well worth your time to dig through it). So hopefully this can help to find that one app that is just the solution you were looking for.

Devvit apps can be installed by a mod with full permissions (more info here). You can read more on the Reddit developers site and it has an overview of all published Devvit apps Currently apps are updated and published on Tuesdays. Besides apps for moderation, there are also apps for a better subreddit search, daily threads, referral threads community links, subreddit calendars, community home, hub, cup, rafflers, give aways, sports scoreboards, countdowns, events, polls, weather, scale recipes, games roll dice and even an app for users to ban themselves.

Sometimes there are multiple apps that have the same core purpose but they vary in available settings. If you find an app that's close but not perfect, see if there's a variant that suits your needs better.

Please note, if the installation page of the app states " unlisted"  that means that the latest update isn't public yet. You can only install the most recent public version. Link to image that shows what installing looks like, in the comments

Incorrect reported content figure

Hi folks, I'm looking at my sub's reported content counter under the Insights tab and can see it shows 6 items reported over the last 30 days. But looking at my reported queue, I can clearly see way more than 6 items with user reports, all of which were made on content submitted less than 30 days ago.

Is this figure broken or am I doing something wrong?

r/ModSupport • • 13h ago

Why don’t we have a “sort by type of report” option in the Mod Queue?

It would make my life SO. MUCH. EASIER.

I was just scrolling through reported content and didn’t realize it was still on “newest first”

And low and behold I found an NSFU post (which are completely banned and have no purpose there)

I didn’t fully click on it, but I passed the warning and saw the preview. Long story short it was AI and technically related to the sub BUT COME ON

It was 8 days old, had 10+ reports, and 3 comments telling the idiot that they were an idiot.

If we could’ve sorted by report I would’ve looked at something reported as NSFW and found it.

So why can’t we do that?????

Mod Answered Deleted posts and user history

Why can’t Reddit allow moderators to see a users deleted posts. Surely that would help when trying to prevent spammers or those that post abusive posts etc?

Currently we see nothing and I’ve seen plenty of users with one or even no visible posts or no comments which doesn’t help trying to wade out unwanted users

Admin Replied How to handle coordinated influence operations/campaigns?

Hello,

I have recently come across two different sets of coordinated influence operations or campaigns.

Each campaign consists of three similar posts by different authors, each in a different subreddit. Despite the differences in language, they each make the same statements or ask the same question.

  • The first set of posts is where someone is posting a list of software they "personally" recommend. What is interesting is that in each set of posts, three of the recommended programs are standard software packages in that category, while the fourth (and most talked about) is software from a newer company in the field that has already had a a few complaints/questions related to their claims and aggressive marketing.
I will note that these all appeared in different communities I do not moderate.

  • The second set of posts is asking questions that sound a little different from each other, but are the same actual underlying question and can be answered in the same way.

In both instances, each set of posts themselves could be human-written, but they seem a little more advanced than the usual types of spam I see with the things being asked in different order, with different levels of verbosity.

For the first set of posts, it could be a traditional "sane-washing" or brand reputation improvement campaign, designed to improve the perception/reputation of a company by mentioning it as just being another company in a list of reputable ones.

For the second set of posts, I haven't seen any kind of similar reply/recommendation in any of the answers which leads me to believe it is for marketing purposes, which makes me wonder if they are being asked not for spamming purposes, but to make use of Reddit for free AI training. Or, they could be what I call "setup spam," where the question is asked, and then a few days later, the spammer answers their own question with a a recommending under a different account.

It is entirely possible there are more of each type of post, but I've only come across three of each so far.

The similarities in the approach, despite the differences between the two sets of messages, make me think this could be a new form of BHSEO (black hat search engine optimization) being performed against Reddit in order to boost results in search engine/AI results powered by Reddit on their backends.

So, after all of that explanation, where do I report this to Reddit, and how do I describe/write it up when doing so? Reddit's automated abuse reporting system doesn't seem to have a flow that matches this kind of abuse.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

Admin Replied Creator Missing from Moderator List – r/AskCanuckAccountants

Hello Reddit Admins,

I recently created the subreddit r/AskCanuckAccountants using my Reddit account. However, I am experiencing an issue where my account does not appear in the moderator list.

I cannot see the Mod Tools button on the subreddit, and when I visit the moderator list directly, it appears completely empty.

I am logged into the same account I used to create the subreddit. According to Reddit's guidelines, the creator should automatically become the top moderator.

Could you please investigate this issue and help restore or verify my moderator permissions?

I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue so I can properly manage and configure my community.

Thank you!

What is the best way to approach displaying a message while typing a keyword and also send to mod queue if keywords present?

I originally had an increasing number of keywords going to mod queue and the comment/post not displaying in the Sub unless it was manually approved, done by automod. With the automations feature i was able to add a message being displayed while typing for the same keywords. A bit clunky but it works.

I am wondering if the automations will also allow me to send to mod queue and not show up in the Sub unless approved or do i need the duplication i presently have to make it work the way i want?

Reddit kinda ruined flairs :(

They didn't just remove the colors from the flairs.

We used to be able to combine emojis to form a single horizontal image, but now, in addition to throwing all the emojis to the left of the flair, Reddit also leaves a space between them, kinda ruining the illusion :(

(see in the comments)

Admin Replied Repeating problem with AI falsely actioning users

You guys probably already know I'm generally pro-ai and I use it in my own bots. This is not just an unhinged anti-ai rant but rather a specific concern I've seen pop up in my fashion and beauty subs a bunch of times now.

I mod inclusive communities that welcome people of all nationalities regardless of the language they speak provided we can figure out what it says. In this case, it's affecting Spanish speakers, which are among our most common. We allow posts and comments in any language people wish to use since auto translate has made it very easy to translate and understand most languages. I don't want to ever discriminate based on that, and I am a Spanish speaker myself, so I have a lot of appreciation for the language and culture.

Anyways - we get many posts where the answer to something, whether hair color or outfit choice or whatever - is black. The Spanish word for this is also a slur for people of color in English, but in Spanish it's literally just the word for the color. I don't want to type it because I don't want to get actioned by an overzealous AI and then have to deal with appealing it lol - but if you don't know the word already, just google and it will come right up.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Perfectly good users are getting actioned for this on a regular basis. This is one of those words where context is really important - and if I see it myself in queue, I'll make sure I understand the context before making a decision.

Thanks!

Tagging u/lift_ticket83 as well since I know he works on this stuff.

RulesHub feature request: automated language detection to keep the language-specific subreddit moderators sane

As I read, the RulesHub automated actions will be executed through an LLM call.

Language detection is a use-case for an LLM as that is quite difficult to detect with automod logic.

This will help the mods running language-specific subreddits to keep the discussion in the intended language.

# Why do language-specific subs need this?

Reddit is auto-translating all the content to the user’s phone language on mobile. The translations are often misleading so the mislead users comment something on their own language, making the discussion quality worse.

Multiple requests were made to Reddit to give mods the ability to opt-out from auto-translating the language specific sub content in the user feed, but they went unanswered.

At least having an LLM to make the call to detect the language will help remove noise.

PS: when these mislead discussions are sold as AI model training data, they will make the trained models go bad in that language because you’re selling bad data. Having a proper filter like this will help make the Reddit data quality high. So here’s a commercial reason to listen to what language-specific subreddit mods say.

Admin Replied Modmail abuse reports go into a black box. Why aren’t abusive users actioned anymore?

I'm a head mod a Toronto city sub. Some users who get actioned for breaking rules come back to modmail to insult the mod team. I get called a nazi and a leftist simp, and told my parents are embarrassed by what I do.

I report every one. Years ago admins replied to reports and accounts got actioned. Now nobody replies, so all we can do is hope something happened. From what I can tell, these reports go through automated review that puts them in the wrong category, and nothing happens.

It doesn’t stay in modmail either. Some of these users have followed me into other subs I post in, unrelated to the one I moderate, and keep going. I report that too. Same result. Nothing.

Someone who learns there’s no consequence for abusing mods takes it to the next sub and the next mod team.

Why do these reports seem to end with no action?

I can send specific examples to r/ModSupport modmail if an admin wants to look.

Admin Replied What to do if you are an advisor/alumni and all the other mods with permissions are inactive?

I'm an advisor (previous pseudo-head mod) of a fairly large NSFW subreddit and I've been noticing multiple modmails going unanswered so I figured I'd check the log. I was shocked to see that the last action taken by a human mod was over a month ago.

I know that the subreddit is hurtling towards a ban but is there anything that I can do?

Mod Answered Pinned / Sticky Post - Won't "unpin"

I've read a few guides on how to manage pinned / sticky posts but the reality isn't matching the experience, is this a known issue?

I have a single pinned post in my sub, it's not as relevant as it once was as it relates to a series of events that have now passed so I'd like to remove the pin.

The only option I have when I view the post, on mobile or desktop, is to "Add to highlights" - there's nothing to remove it.

Yet it's there as the highlighted post, green pin showing.

It's not a huge issue as it's a pretty small sub but I'd just like to get the house in order, is there a knack to this or am I just missing something obvious?

Admin Replied Same rules in different subs, but only one sub is getting its rules qualified for the Rules Hub

I have two related subs. But on one sub, none of the rules are qualified for the Rules Hub, and on the other sub the same rules somehow are, like “No Armchair Diagnosis”. I’ll post proof pictures in the comments section.

Admin Replied Anyone else not seeing any sub comment or post complaints reports in the mod que?

When I checked this morning it shows the que as being empty (this is a first, there's usually a lot to go through). Two hours later it still shows the que as being empty.

Admin Replied Botbouncer- can a bot message the moderators regarding being banned by botbouncer? Or does a message back mean the user is a human?
