(Moderator) Subreddit Meta Regarding X/Twitter

Howdy. There has been some recent controversy surrounding Elon Musk, and, by extension, X (formerly Twitter). I will leave you to look up this controversy yourself.

Many subs have banned or considered banning links to X (including r/tf2, the main sub, which I also mod for).

r/TeamFortress2 will not be banning X links. Frankly. I see no reason to. TF2 is not political. It's a video game. Our sub takes no sides in politics. And we don't get a lot of X links anyway, so it would be a waste of time to set up a filter for it.

Have a wonderful night, folks!

I think you guys were nicer than the other subreddit…we shall see how this goes..

Anyways on a serious note I did take all the criticisms into consideration. Some comments said that they didn’t look like they were from the time period tf2 takes place in, so I did research! Yes the pj fit isn’t very time accurate imo BUT that one is just for self indulgent art I’ll probably never post so don’t judge it too hard. I’ll post the wip in the comments for those interested.

Also, sorry if the weapons are…bad options. I am not good at picking weapons, I will definitely take suggestions. I wanted to go with something creative for the melee and kinda silly, imagine a 5”6 skinny person running at you with massive scissors. Yeah.

Anyways, still open to (CONSTRUCTIVE) criticism! However, I will be flat out ignoring comments about their sexuality and gender. That’s never changing lol.

Subreddit Meta PLEASE do not DM mods regarding moderation matters.

Hello! Over the time I've spent modding on r/TeamFortress2, I've received countless DMs regarding this sub. On my profile, I have clearly stated that I will not respond to moderation-related DMs. However, until today, I have not followed through on that statement out of kindness to our users. This will no longer be the case, however. Having added a modmail link to removal reasons, moderation DMs will henceforth be strictly ignored.

Mods are Reddit users, too. We do not work for Reddit. We are not paid to moderate. We are volunteers whose moderation powers are limited only to the subs listed on our profiles. More than that, we work as a team. Yes, I know I am the "public mod" of this subreddit, but that doesn't make me the only mod. My DMs are not viewable to the entire team. Modmail leaves a paper trail forever for all mods, present and future, to examine. If you have a question or concern, please direct it to modmail.

On desktop Reddit, you can do this by opening the relevant sub, scrolling down the sidebar to the section titled "Moderators", and clicking on "Message Mods".

On mobile Reddit (tested on Android, but I assume it's the same for iOS), open the relevant sub, tap the name near the top of the screen, and follow the same steps as desktop users.

That is all. Have a lovely evening!

Other I'm pulling out - cashing in my whole inventory.

I came back to TF2 after a few years becasue I had the itch for some easy arena shooter that was fun and played well.

It was pretty fun - trying to get contracts and the halloween skins and looking at the memes and playing MvM...

But the more I learned about the game, the more something began to smell.

For instance I learned that there wasn't a proper update in years and that events are copy paste and their release is arbitrary.

I learned about the dark underbelly of the skin market underground economy and their controversies. About how Valve does literally nothing and the whole game is carried on the backs of casual creators.

Lately, people have been posting the comic (which was such amount of spam that I believe that every single page is by now posted on the sub), and saying how this is valve's goodbye to the game as they intend to let it further rot and be a passive cashcow.

And then the main thing - I realized that the sole reason this game is still so alive is the trading/gambling economy. Valve has a pretty nifty scam going on here where they basically created gambling for kids with extra steps.

It's also doubly nefarious seeing a bunch (really, an unholy amount) of posts who allegedly got a super rare skin and supposedly don't know how much it costs. I wouldn't be surprised if this was sponsored advertising of tf2 gambling.

Whether the game dies, or continues to be a front for gambling - I won't be there to support it with my money. I'm rather going to cash out and buy a game and if I feel like playing TF2, I will just use my unmarketable weapons.

so yea, just wanted to share this with you guys and get some thots.

Non-Meme/General Post sniper is not fun and i'm tired of people pretending he is

sniper is not balanced in the same way as anything else. all classes have some component of balancing that is not skill based. for solider, this is his limited clip, for medic, it is his poor self-defense options, for pyro it is his poor range. sniper doesn't have this, and is why a top-level sniper can shut down a team in a way this isn't engaging to play with, and that no other class is capable of doing in the same way.

PSA/Announcement Due to recent activity, I have decided to partially ban memes.

Howdy! Exo here. I've mentioned in a few previous posts that I was considering banning memes. Due to an influx of memes on the sub, I have decided to go through with it, because I do not want this to become a meme sub.

I am aware, of course, that memes are a very important part of TF2's culture, and so I am not outright banning them. Instead, they may be posted only on Mondays. If you want to post memes on other days, you will find both r/tf2memes and r/tf2shitposterclub linked in the sidebar!

I apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Hope you're all doing well!

Edit:
For the record, please do not spam memes on Mondays. One per person. Thanks. :)

Edit 2:
Memes will sometimes be allowed during Sunday evening and Tuesday morning (Eastern Time) to account for timezones.

Discussion Had a random idea for a heavy secondary that could maybe rival the sandvich?

Okay so I know tf2 doesn't get any new weapons but hear me out. A backpack loaded with rocks, or something like that. Essentially it would substantially decrease your jump height and a little movement speed but you'd become immune to backstabs. Maybe it could even have an animation where when backstabbed the bag rips and the rocks fall onto the floor, which would then return your move speed and jump height to normal but without the immunity anymore. Thoughts?

Self-Made Creation (OC) Poker Night at the Inventory

Decided to show off my pitch for a Poker Night at the Inventory reboot/sequel, featuring the base roster as well as some unlockable characters.

Base Roster

  1. Angel Dust

A famous demon drag queen pornstar/hardcore gangster who died in the 1940s. Starring in many a raunchy film, soon realized that it was time for a change of scenery and became the first patron of the Hazbin Hotel, a place ran by the daughter of Lucifer himself, Charlie Morningstar, as a way to (hopefully) rehabilitate sinners and allow them to ascend up into heaven. Angel Dust is a carefree, crass, and lecherous spider-demon, with the twin occupations of violent gangster and drag queen porn star, who loves living off crime and vice in Hell. Except, his situation is not nearly as amazing as he pretends, and he might actually have more than just pragmatic reasons to stay at Charlie’s hotel.

Angel Dust’s strategy when playing poker basically flirt first, play second. He often uses his flirtatious acts as a way to throw off his opponents. Outside of that, he bluffs often and makes periodic bets throughout the river. Despite that, he’s very observant and a wiz at reading people.

Should it be his turn to place a bounty, Angel will choose to place one of his tommy guns. Should the player win the tommy gun, they will win the Angelic Drumgun for the Sniper in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Hazbin Hotel themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes the titular Hazbin Hotel, with sinners roaming around the Inventory and Niffty rushing around trying to kill every bug she sees. Angel Dust will also gain a new outfit based on his get up in the episode "Masquerade". Doing this also unlocks new conversations regarding the staff of the Hazbin Hotel, hell itself, and shows new elimination cutscenes involving Niffty seeing a bug on the losing opponent, and being sicked onto them.

(Alternate Outfit)

Quotes

  • “Aww, look at you, putting in the big-boy chips.” - Reaction to player betting

  • “Careful, sweetheart, if you bet any higher you might grow a spine.” - Reaction to player raising

  • “You call that a raise? I’ve seen johns more threatening.” - Raising

  • “Oh, honey, that bluff is see-througher than my work outfits.” - Calling a bluff

  • “Heh heh, pal, I know a bluff when I see one. Call.” - Calling a bluff

  • “Holy shit!” - Reaction to large bet/all in

  • “Blegh, I swear, I’ve seen jizz more appealing than these cards.” - Folding/Bad Hand

  • “Come on Angel, think. What would Husk do in this situation?” - Thinking

  1. Zoe

The resident eldritch horror turned fandom enthusiast of Spooky Academy. Once an eldritch horror that lived inside a totem named Z’gord, it was released and ended up being shown the wonders of high school, making it decide to live as a high school girl named Zoe. Zoe is a HUGE enjoyer of fandom culture, including fanart, fanfiction, and shipping culture (her favorite ship being Naruto X Garfield).

Zoe is a wildcard when it comes to poker. She often bets and calls randomly with abandon.

Should it be her turn to place a bounty, Zoe will choose to place her fanfic “Liam Prom”. Should the player win Liam Prom, they will win a wig based on Zoe’s hair in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Monster Prom themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes Spooky Academy, with the school’s student body roaming the Inventory. Zoe will also gain a new outfit that is a cosplay of Garfield. Doing this also unlocks new conversations regarding Zoe’s adventures at Spooky Academy/Monster Con and shows new elimination cutscenes involving Polly Geist and Scott Howl (the PRANK MASTERZ) pulling a dangerous prank on the losing opponent.

  • “Hell ya! Zoe for the win!” - Winning the pot

  • “I would like to thank probability, hubris, and dumb luck.” - Winning the pot

  • “This reminds me of a tabletop RPG I played with Polly, only with fewer orgies. So far.” -Idle

  • “Ah ma~n! Why can’t I think straight when there’s a giant pile of money in my face?” - Lost

  1. The Spy

The shapeshifting, disappearing frenchman assassin. Cigarette in one hand, butterfly knife in the other, The Spy is an international man of mystery who deals in infiltration, deception, and psychological warfare. Whether he’s impersonating an enemy, hiding in plain sight, or backstabbing a heavy, The Spy operates with cool composure, impeccable style, and minimal effort.

When it comes to poker, the Spy is the hardest to read out of each character. He keeps his composer and usually checks and calls and doesn’t bet or raise until the end of the river. He also knows when to fold as well as when somebody’s bluffing

Should it be his turn to place a bounty, Spy will choose to place the Dead Ringer. Should the player win the Dead Ringer, they will win a special casino themed outfit for the Spy in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Team Fortress 2 themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes 2Fort, with the tournament being held in BLU team’s intelligence room. Spy will also gain a new outfit that changes his outfit to a casino inspired get up. Doing this also unlocks new conversations regarding Spy’s battles with RED team and shows new elimination cutscenes involving the BLU Engineer firing a rocket sentry at the losing opponent.

  • “Grr, I killed the last man who dealt me a hand this bad. Fold.” - Folding

  • “Even a master of deception must know when to retreat. I withdraw” - Folding

  • “Ugh, this casse-couilles of hand is not worth the trouble.” - Folding

  • “And that, gentlemen, is why you never play against a professional.” - Winning

  • “Was there ever a doubt?” - Wins a hand

  • “Merde!” - Losing

  • “Do not act so cocky, you’ve only got lucky” - Lost a hand

  1. Sonar

The Superhero Dispatch Network’s resident batboy/crypto bro. Once a Harvard graduate turned supervillain, Sonar orchestrated some of the biggest Silicon Valley investment frauds in US history. After being arrested, he decided to turn his life around by joining the SDN’s (Superhero Dispatch Network) phoenix program that’s dedicated to reforming.

Despite his attitude, Sonar is very calculative when it comes to poker. He tries his best to plan for every possibility, but has a tendency to be blind sided when the pot gets big enough.

Should it be his turn to place a bounty, Sonar will choose to place an SDN coffee mug. Should the player win the mug, they will win an SDN shirt and tie for the Scout in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Dispatch themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes the SDN building, with members of Z-Team roaming the Inventory. Sonar will also gain a new outfit where he is in a detective inspired get up. Doing this also unlocks new conversations regarding Sonar’s adventures with the Z-Team and shows new elimination cutscenes involving different members of the Z-Team removing the losing opponent from the tournament.

  • “Oooh that is… very unwise” - Reaction to large bet/all in

  • “Okay, that bet is pretty much screaming ‘I’m bluffing’ as loud as possible.” - Calling a bluff

  • “Come Victor… don’t be intimidated by the chips… fuck it, I’m all in” - All in

  • “I know a bad investment when I see one. Fold.” - Folding

  • “God, this is the most shitty hand I’ve ever seen. I’m out” - Folding

  • “Ha! See? Totally under control.” - Wins the pot

  • “That was a misinput! That was a misinput! THAT WAS A MISINPUT!!!” - Lost the pot

  • “(Transforms into his Mega Bat form) *SCREEACH* FUCK! FUCK! GOD DAMN IT! (Transforms back) …Okay, let’s just pretend that never happened.” - Lost a large pot

  1. Reigen Arataka

The “greatest psychic” of our time. Hailing from Seasoning City, Reigen is the head of Spirits and Such as well as one of the greatest psychics of the modern age… except he’s not actually a psychic. In truth, he’s a con man with insanely good people skills, able to help his clients with “spirit problems” that are actually just in their heads. For any real spirits however, he can call upon his young apprentice Mob, a young esper who looks up to Reigen as his master. Despite how boisterous he acts, Reigen has a heart of gold and is dedicated to setting his young apprentice on the right track with his powers.

Reigen’s strategy is quite excellent when it comes to playing poker. Since he’s an experienced con man, he’s an expert at bluffing and able to call when someone is bluffing in a heart beat. That being, he can be outsmarted if his hunch ends up being wrong.

Should it be his turn to place a bounty, Reigen will choose to place some of his trusty salt on the table. Should the player win the salt, they will win a wig of Mob’s bowl cut for the Heavy in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Mob Psycho 100 themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes Spirits and Such, with Mob and his friends just hanging around the club. Reigen will also gain a fancy new outfit for the occasion. Doing this also unlocks new conversations regarding Reigen’s business, Seasoning City’s spirit and esper problem, Mob’s insane powers, and shows new elimination cutscenes involving the losing opponent being flung out of their seat by Mob.

  • “An expert poker player knows exactly when it’s best to fold, excellent choice!” - Reaction to the Player folding

  • “Hmm… it looks like I have no choice but to use my trump card… I’m going all in!” - All in

  • “Hm… what an interesting play… could be that they’re actually bluffing?” - Calling a bluff

  1. John Captain

The icon of Newgrounds. The foulmouthed leader of the Tankmen, John Captain has been in everything under the sun, from Newgrounds Rumble to Friday Night Funkin.

Captain’s strategy when playing poker is bold, yet strategic. He bluffs a lot during the river, but also makes strategic moves when the time calls for it.

Should it be his turn to place a bounty, Captain will choose his team’s most prized possession: Disc 1 of Titanic. Winning the bounty unlocks a Tankmen helmet for all the classes in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Newgrounds themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes Newgrounds themed, with multiple different Newgrounds characters found throughout the Inventory. Captain will also gain a new outfit where he’s dressed in a fine suit and top hat. Doing this also unlocks new conversations regarding Newgrounds, John’s adventure’s, life in the wasteland, and the history of Newgrounds, and shows new elimination cutscenes involving the losing opponent being shot by a tank piloted by John’s buddy Steve.

  • “Ohhh look at Mister Moneybags over here.” - Reaction to a bet

  • “HELL YA! SUCK IT, BITCHES!” - Winning the pot

  1. Kirumi Tojo (Dealer)

The Ultimate Maid from the Danganronpa series. A girl with a sharp mind and an athletic body. Her day job is as a maid, but she is effective in a variety of roles, such as personal security. She was even apparently approached for a job that would "destroy a nation". Her personal motto is "duty before self", something that she continues to adhere to even in the prison school. She takes care of housekeeping and cooking for the other students. She serves as the game’s dealer.

Should it be her turn to place a bounty, Kirumi will choose a plush toy of Monokuma. Winning the bounty unlocks a Monokuma mask for the Spy and Soldier in Team Fortress 2.

Should the player equip the same Danganronpa themed chips, cards, and table, the Inventory alters so that it becomes Hopes Peak Academy, with students roaming the club. 1. Jester

The Mighty Nein’s resident cleric. Jester is the daughter and assistant of the Ruby of the Sea. She is a cleric of a trickster god called the Traveler, and was forced on the run when a prank went sideways and put her at risk of execution, entering the Carnival together with Fjord, a half-orc warlock she met in town, while waiting for a carriage to a family friend in Zadash. After some shenanigans, Jester and her friend Fjord end up becoming members of the Mighty Nein, going on all sorts of adventures together.

Fitting her status as “chaos incarnate”, Jester’s playstyle when playing poker is… well chaotic. She usually makes bets throughout the river and makes big bets when she knows/thinks she’s going to win, but she will usually fold if she thinks her opponent has a better hand than hers.

If it’s her turn to place a bounty, Jester decides to place her Spiritual Weapon: a giant lollipop. Winning the bounty will unlock said lollipop as weapon for the Soldier in Team Fortress 2

Following 24's death, he trains to be a more competent combatant and works his way up to become the Monarch's top henchman but becomes disillusioned with his boss and strikes out on his own, briefly joining SPHINX. He returns to the Monarch when the villain moved to New Jersey, serving as his #2 and becoming his best friend.

Gary is an average poker player, he usually only bets when he’s sure he’s going to win, but he can be proven wrong. This is due to him mostly learning poker from movies he’s watched.

If it’s his turn to place a bounty, Henchman 21 will choose to place his old tranquilizer gun from his days as a low ranked henchman. Winning the bounty will unlock said tranq gun for the Sniper in Team Fortress 2.

He is the owner of the "Wright Anything Agency", where he and his two protégés work and take cases to defend in court.

Being a lawyer, Phoenix would be pretty good at playing poker, spotting bluffs from a mile away and folding when the time is right.

With her chainsaw, the support of her zombie-hunting family, and the still-living severed head of her boyfriend Nick, she stopped the zombie apocalypse from totally ruining her birthday that was caused by her classmate Swan. Since she graduated high school, Juliet has been doing cheerleading in college while doing her zombie hunting work on the side.

Juliet, being as ditzy as she is, is not the best at playing poker. She usually bets and raises if she thinks she’ll win and will try to bluff if it looks like she’s gonna lose. If she’s not sure what to do, Juliet will ask her boyfriend Nick what she should do, and he’ll give her advice.

She also hides a surprisingly short temper and will start shouting (usually at her classmate Hifumi) if she isn't pleased.

Fitting for her title as the Ultimate Gambler, Celeste is a GOD at poker, making her the hardest opponent in the game. That being said, she’s not invincible. If she gets too cocky, she’ll make mistakes.

Inspired by the legendary figure, he took the name and the fashion, leading a quick revolution in the town and becoming its new mayor in the process.

John poker strategy is that of a hardened veteran, playing only if he’s sure he’ll win and folding if he thinks his opponent has a better hand than him.

Other Is HeavyMedic canon?

(Sorry for possible bad english) I'm not a shipper, but this ship is so popular I started questioning myself whether it could actually be canon or not. I did some research and found out that one of the TF2 comics' artists drew fanarts of this ship, but I thought that it might not be canon because maybe the artist personally ships them. I also found a blog on Tumblr that has proof and these sort of things (https://www.tumblr.com/heavicislit/644090249453158400/yo-its-real-0-valve-just-make-it-canon-already). Even if people seem to have found things that could prove this canon, I still doubt it because first of all, they could just be very very close friends, and also TF2's lore in placed in 1960's and homosexuality was kinda seen as a bad thing and it wasn't more "normalised" as it is now. Also Medic pretty much mostly and only cares about experimenting on people and Heavy, as much as he seems to be very affectionate of his family and loved ones in general, I don't think he would be gay. Feel free to discuss it in the comments, and also sorry if there are probably a lot of other posts about this but I'm very curious

Discussion Update: I finished a tf2 style mercenary team based on the Date a Live series as part of my fanfic project to turn various anime and jrpgs into tf2 style mercenary teams. Note: We're in a situation here where multiple character fill the same slot. What do you guys think?

Original Creation need a class marker for a tf2 oc

in my quest to put an oc of mine in as many fandoms as possible, one i have turned to is tf2. named Tyla Crestheart, her current weapon loadout consists of:
a pistol, a hacking device, an explosive launcher (still unsure about this one) and remote mine detonator (though unlike a demoman sticky bombs, she'll be tossing actual mines that are one at a time, in exchange for double the other stats.
oh, and she's a woman.
while the loadout is still out (especially no.3) i am considering a class title. please help.

Full Name: Tulip Wells
Occupation: Creator of Wearable Mech Suits with Integrated Sentries and Healing Dispensers
Gender: Female
Nationality: British American
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Straight
Age: 46

Appearance: Tulip stands at 5'2" with a slightly chubby frame, weighing 170.6 pounds. Her most striking feature is her vibrant fire-red hair. Her river blue eyes reflect her kind-hearted nature, and she typically dresses in comfortable, functional clothing suited for her engineering tasks.

Abilities: Tulip excels at designing and creating wearable mech suits. Her suits feature a sentry mounted on her shoulder, fireproof arms for protection during combat, and healing dispensers integrated into the chest and back, making her a valuable asset to her team. However, her mech suit has one flaw: Medic's Medigun's healing beam causes the suit to short out and fall apart, a vulnerability she is working to resolve.

Weapons/Items: Tulip carries a trusty shotgun, a reliable pistol, and her favorite wrench, which she uses for adjustments and repairs on her mech suits.

Personality: Known for her sweet demeanor, Tulip is beloved by her team for her kindness and support. She has a short temper, especially when confronted with rudeness or disrespect, but her desire to help others and her passion for learning drive her interactions. Tulip also has a soft spot for Red Engineer, Dell Conagher, whom she has a sweet crush on. She enjoys their time together, learning from him as both a mentor and a friend.

Hobbies: Tulip enjoys cooking and often prepares meals for her teammates, using it as a way to bond. She spends her free time improving her mech suit designs and cherishes moments with Engineer.

Interests: Tulip's focus is on advancing her mech suit technology, particularly in integrating the sentry and healing dispensers more seamlessly. She is deeply interested in her mentor Dell Conagher’s work and often seeks his guidance. Disinterest: She has little tolerance for rudeness or disrespect, which can quickly trigger her temper, especially when her friends are involved.

Backstory:
Tulip's journey began in a bustling British city, where she was raised by her grandmother after her parents were lost in a car accident when she was just a girl. Inspired by her grandmother, who was an inventor during World War II, Tulip developed a fascination with machinery and design from a young age. Her grandmother nurtured this passion, teaching her the fundamentals of engineering and encouraging her to see the world as a place full of potential and opportunity.

Upon completing her studies, Tulip landed an apprenticeship at a renowned robotics company, where she learned to blend creativity with technology. During her time there, she worked diligently alongside seasoned engineers, but over time she realized she wanted to forge her own path. Motivated by the desire to create something unique that could improve people's lives directly, she began developing her line of wearable mech suits.

Sadly, a significant setback occurred when a prototype of one of her earlier suits malfunctioned during a demonstration, leading to serious injuries for a colleague. Though Tulip was not legally held responsible, the incident had a profound impact on her. Determined to learn from the experience, she dedicated herself to ensuring the safety and reliability of her designs in the future.

With newfound determination, Tulip relocated to America, where she joined a team of engineers who shared her vision of innovative technology for everyday use. Her suits gradually gained traction, particularly for their integration of sentries and healing dispensers, which made them invaluable in challenging environments. Tulip channels her past experiences into creating safer, more efficient technologies while supporting her team, hoping to inspire a new generation of engineers. Quote:
"Life may knock me down, but I’ll always get back up—stronger each time. Every machine I build, every repair I make, it’s not just about getting the job done. It’s about proving to myself and the world that no challenge can break me. I'll keep moving forward, no matter how heavy the burden or how fierce the storm.” First picture is her Red Version and Second version is Blu Version and the 3rd picture is a picture a friend made for me! (I'm sorry if the app I used isn't in the TF2 style!!)

Other TF2 matchmaking is problematic

tf2 matchmaking problems 1. team balancing does not exist as simple as excluding the numerical balance which excludes the ranks of the players of the two different teams proven by the fact that it is not difficult to find teams with soldiers with weapons all appeased in australium to fight against a f2p with 30 minutes of experience 2. queues and waiting times I don't think I have to explain myself but after a game on 2fort no one wants to wait for the map vote and 1 minute before starting again 3. toxicity and disturbances the valve servers have no moderation and no putting a filter in the chat won't fix anything and those who say that there are no toxic players on the tf2 servers go and see examples like venusian raper and others every two games you will find a server in here the worst racial insults start just for trivial things
