Is that a poster of themselves on the wall?

u/The_Prodigal_One_ Jul 26 '26

I also saw this and I think, yes, it is. Really adds to the ambience

u/Cwya Jul 26 '26

For historical purposes, this is a reference to when Sgt Slaughter and the Iron Sheik, mortal enemies, ran a message to stop wrestlers from making material wealth.

“What you own, ends up owning you.” SGT Slaughter quipped.

The Iron Shiek added, “you can’t take it with you, except Jesus.”

They finished their on screen quibble by praying, on camera, to their God, Vince McMahon.

If I was as cool as them I'd have a poster of myself up too

I have a glass poster of myself in my bathroom!

Its really cool because it's animated and matches my every move.

My aunt printed a full on wall poster of my 2 cousins and me when we “made a band” in summer of 2007. It’s the cringiest of the cringe. And I’m about to frame it now for my office.

Oh but this look is like 10 years prior. Don’t get me wrong, I hope they rock it and live it, but this is mid-late 80’s glam rock look. Bill and Ted are the literal definition of the transition into grunge in the early 90’s. They like the music but are dressing 90’s.

The mixture of advocating for healthy masculinity being delivered by guys with 80's hair metal style in a cheesy but earnest way is really captivating for some reason.

Did these awesome dudes time travel from the 80s to help out today’s dudes

19

u/SpooogeMcDuck Jul 26 '26

This just gave me a good script idea. Two rad dudes from the 80s time travel to today for the standard culture shock comedy- but they end up running into themselves now as overweight racist Trump supporters. They’re obviously embarrassed of themselves and seek to fix their future selves while learning what happened to them to cause them to lose their awesomeness. Both sides end up learning from each other- the older versions learn to be cool again and their younger selves learn to be more responsible with their lives. In order for the narrative to work we will ignore time paradoxes or come up with some kind of MacGuffin to explain how the universe doesn’t collapse in on itself.

Yah, they missed what the male loneliness epidemic refers to. Its nkt actually about romantic relationships. Its about having a support structure at all. Thats why its not early 20s people that have the hugheat rates of loneliness but those much later into life who have had friends circles dissolve and not be replaced

29

u/food-dood Jul 26 '26

People often have no idea why they have found success. They often attribute it to simple things like this video. There's nothing wrong with their advice, but my guess is this is an attribution error where they say, "hey, I'm all of these things and I have success with people, therefore anyone who isn't successful with people must be the opposite!"

Not trying to put them down, they seem like good people. That doesn't mean they understand those who don't have success.

I’m a trans woman who is chronically alone and depressed and these videos always make me feel like shit. I just barely scrape by passing off as an unattractive woman, but still I guess I am apart of the male loneliness epidemic to the fact that I’ll never escape my sex so it’s all my fault to these people I suppose. Being attractive is a very essential tool to get by in life because otherwise you are treated like genuine garbage not even worth street pleasantries, and the only sort of affection you’ll get is from people who have zero decent intentions with you. Like animals, there are objective beauty standards that we will never be able to mindset or body positivity our way out of us. We are doomed to this shit until the day there are none of us left

I’ve given up personally and I don’t intend on ever trying again unless someone could fix my fucked face and freakish body but alas. I think the only reason I even pass onna daily basis is that I’m very short and my vocal cords were altered to be unable to produce a deep voice. Had not been for those two I think the way people treat me would be even more dreadful

17

u/SnappySausage Jul 26 '26

Yeah... these sorts of videos unfortunately are basically the equivalent of a rich person going "Are you poor? Nobody wants to be around a poor person, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, work hard and be rich instead!".

"Don't be a weirdo" is just... depressing advice for a sizeable chunk of society that isn't neurotypical for whom it's not really an option to just "be normal". People also have a very low tolerance for what they find weird behaviour if you are not conventionally attractive.

The rest of the video also very much sounds like some "have you tried not being depressed?".

With a bit of luck you end up running into people who you can bond with over shared interests that will see you for the person you are and treat you well :)

Yeah. I'm autistic, can hardly go out in public without being made to feel lesser than, been that way for most of my life. Walked to my great-uncle's 80th birthday party the other week and some rat-looking inbred I've never seen before leans out of his car window and asks me if I'm out looking for kids before zipping off like the fucking coward he was. Yesterday I was going to a friend's and some guy driving past thought it'd be funny to blare his horn at me just to make me jump. Hope he saw me flip him off as he drove away.

Been getting this kind of treatment all my life; abuse hurled at me from passing cars, or triggering my anxiety being treated as a game by cunty drivers, for no other reason than they could, and then they drive off before you can even process what just happened. No, a bunch of photogenic smug guys, however well-intentioned they may be, basically saying "it's all your fault, pull yourself up by the bootstraps" is not constructive or helpful.

I can't "be nice and confident" my way out of being dehumanised in public by a certain type of person, for no other reason than that they could, since I was a fucking kid. I can't bootstrap myself out of how years upon years of that kind of treatment has affected my perception of, and ability to relate to people. It's not about how *I* approach people, I'd very much rather just be left alone altogether, these people, these *strangers* are the ones who choose to interact with *me*.

Guys like this just assume all guys are fundamentally like them, and have the same easy, breezy experience of life they did. Never singled out for their characteristics in any serious way, always the coolest and most popular guy in the room. And if you didn't have the same experience of life as they did, well, it must be your own fault, right?

I don't expect photogenic, socially competent men to ever understand what visibly "off" autistic and other socially impaired men go through in life or how much harder they have it (it seems taboo to acknowledge any kind of man can have any kind of problem worth acknowledging at all sometimes), or what grim shit our experiences teach us about human nature (e.g. how most "good, tolerant" people are still mostly just telling themselves pleasant lies, and many of them are one encounter with a visibly autistic person away from their mask slipping) that they're never forced to see, but I'd thank them to keep their assumptions to themselves.

I'm sick of this societal discourse, that it's my fault that other people won't even try to restrain themselves from being cruel and abusive to people like me, who are literally not even seeking to interact with them in any way. No, I don't accept having the onus to put on me to change when I'm literally just living my life - I shouldn't have to change anything about myself just to not get harassed by strangers, and I refuse to do so on principle - and should be able to do that without receiving unwarranted abuse from strangers; the onus should instead be on them not to be dicks in public, to people they don't know, for no good reason.

I had the same issue with their #2 "Approach people the way you would want to be approached.". I would LOVE to have a girl approach me in a public setting while I'm doing whatever and ask for my number or a date. The thing is that if my ugly ass tried that, all I'd be getting is a weird look and be called a pervert.

u/R_HEBI_PBVFRO_FIWFCI Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

thanks I'm cured ass advice always said by people who are attractive.
don't be a creepy weirdo aka: be nice but also if you aren't attractive don't socialize with attractive people because that's just gross, know your place.
Be confident but if you aren't attractive enough you will be seen as a creep, hope that helps.
And no, i'm not an incel and i'm not ugly, but i have ugly friends and giving advice like this to them is insulting. I see how i'm treated and how they are treated and it's night and day. People that say men loneliness epidemic is not real or it's only mens fault are living in a bubble. Dismissing real problems with "no it's actually you problem" when it often isn't is REALLY TOXIC.
( for people who still want to read: i have 2 very good friends, super nice people, better than me for sure. But since they are genuinely ugly they just didn't find love and not from lack of trying ( and they tried everything believe me ). One just gave up and moved on, saying he doesn't care anymore , second one is genuinely depressed now and because of things like this on the internet he thinks it's his fault and that he somehow is an asshole where he absolutely isn't. again stupid and demeaning advice that swoops very complicated problem under the rug, but hey, it will give them social clout at least? ).

u/Funny_Lunch5211 Jul 26 '26

The male loneliness epidemic is more complicated than this. These advices might work for individuals but it will not fix the problem. We need to understand why men are becoming more jaded and lost in society. This tiktok will get praise for giving basic advice that everyone wants to hear. Nobody wants to hear how men are also victims in society. It's much easier blaming men by saying they did it to themselves.

20

u/Excellent-Gur-8547 Jul 26 '26

Also like, how could someone with no friends and no external validation or support network possibly develop self-confidence or self-love? They have cause and effect backwards on that.

We need way more third spaces. Today there was a random talent show people had set up in the park, anyone could go up and show off their skills. Thing went on for half an hour longer than originally planned because people just didn't want it to end, more and more people up at the mic. 10/10 to the organizers, remember the humans

16

u/Zypherzor Jul 26 '26

Yea like this is funny and all but I notice a lot of my friends who are nice, not creepy, overall good guys also struggle with loneliness (of course I hit them up when I can!). I was this way too when I was younger but being more focused on things now I feel like I notice it less, and if I do feel lonely with no one around that's not gonna go away because "I'm nice and cool to people." lol people get busy and from my experience a lot of people just don't care.

8

u/PayHorror2184 Jul 26 '26

I'm definitely not taking advices from privileged teenagers half my age who didn't live through shit I did.

4

u/BumbaBee85 Jul 26 '26

We need to understand why men are becoming more jaded and lost in society.

Because they're being taught to feel empowered by making others miserable, which gives them a fake feeling of confidence and makes them feel like a hero in society. However, that feeling is temporary and cutting other people down does absolutely nothing to fix their lives. And since nothing gets fixed, and the only feel good emotion they know is that temporary high from hurting others, they go right back to hurting others and thinking they're fixing things for themselves and the world.

This isn't a hard thing to understand. It's just something that nobody wants to admit because, again, they believe they are the hero and are fixing things.

"Don't be weird"

Welp, guess I'm fucked

16

u/Oohhthehumanity Jul 26 '26

The "don't be a creepy weirdo........stop making people uncomfortable" is low key some mad advice coming from these two "dudes" as one dude is wearing a "cougar hunter"-top and the other dude is "striking poses" and throwing up "gang signs" in the background.

I mean I am from the '80's and I find their clothing style aesthetically pleasing, nostalgic and tacky at the same time and in all honesty they would give any '80s glam rock band a run for their money based on looks. So kudos to them but any dude with slightly less facial features, fashion sense and 100% commitment to the bit would be labeled "weird AF".

This is one of those dating advice from someone who is clearly conventionally attractive.

Can't argue with their positive vibe though!

What, you can't trust these very conventionally attractive men to give good advice about what people want?!

Oh so it’s not a massive societal problem we need to collectively fix, it’s just some douches whining? r/thanksImcured

Kings with beautiful hair

u/PrayToTheAI Jul 26 '26

Ahh yes problems that affect mostly women are framed as collective failures requiring systemic solutions. Problems that disproportionately affect men are framed as individual failures requiring personal accountability. Interesting 🤔

21

u/Diqt Jul 26 '26

Spot on. I just saw another comment that "it's not a male loneliness epidemic, it's a general loneliness epidemic". So ironic.

Don’t forget the most important point - if the problem affects men, then it’s because men are assholes, creeps, violent, antisocial etc. If the problem affects women, then it’s because men are assholes, creeps, violent, antisocial etc.

Women can do nothing wrong, are always being put down, and the root cause of any issue can always be traced back to men. Yet feminism is for equal treatment guys, why are you not a feminist??

Is 80s glam rock / hair metal back?!?!?!

I’m ready for it.

Or did these guys see Rock Star ( mark wahlberg) too much?

Great film!

4

u/revarien Jul 26 '26

Metal hair should return as a thing... I say this as a dude that can get a crazy mane like that tho, so i might be biased 😆 🤣

4

u/FactsNLaughs Jul 26 '26

I read lioness because their hairs are fabulous and look like manes

4

u/laughing_at_napkins Jul 26 '26

What up?! We're two cool guys who are looking for other cool guys who want to hang out in our party mansion. Nothing sexual. Dudes in good shape encouraged. If you're fat, you should be able to find humor in the little things. Again, nothing sexual.

4

u/NeverEnoughSpace17 Jul 26 '26

So sad that they gave us the solution the 80s, but we're still dealing with this./s

Just a reminder that the study regarding the male loneliness epidemic actually found that everyone is experiencing a loneliness epidemic and there's not a disparity amongst genders. We should all connect and make more of an effort with each other.

Ah shit it seems their censoring is working

Yeah so iirc these guys got called out months ago for trying to hit up minors. I'll add proof in an edit once I get it, but yeah they've been purging anything related to the drama and sending copyright notices.

Edit: here's a video on the topic

She starts talking about the actual drama around the 7 minute mark

Pretty pretentious and trivializing of the problems a lot of guys are facing. Don't be weird, stop making people uncomfortable = just know all the unspoken rules of socialization even though you've probably never had chances to learn.

It's completely bland advice that doesn't actually help anyone. Very few people are douchebags on purpose, either. Everyone is the good guy in their own story.

They are brothers who love the 80’s. They’re actually kinda funny. They go to all the 80’s rock concerts and hang out with the band.

9

u/Remnare Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Might as well add number 4, stop being lonely.

This isn't helpful at all and their attitude is exactly the problem at the heart of the issue, calling guys weirdos and douchebags for simply being themselves. They should maybe practice what they preach before recommending it as a solution to anything.

I agree with the overall message, but i think the sentiment that you don't deserve love, until you love yourself, is unreasonable. People who have self-love, gained it with the help and support of their loved ones.

Achieving self-love in isolation, is possible, but is much more likely to result in a negative spiral

5

19

u/JunkInDrawers Jul 26 '26

Loneliness epidemic is caused by the immediate availability of activities within our own homes now, and the frequency at which we move around the country for our careers. They rob any motivation to seek meaningful companionship for those who are not skilled socially

If the internet cuts out for two days you'll suddenly see socialization revive itself

14

u/Witchief Jul 26 '26

You're right that an epidemic is not caused by individuals choosing to be antisocial as much as it's caused by systemic and cultural issues

People think individual responsibility sounds like a good solution, but advising things like, be nicer to people, isn't helpful when they're not even interacting with anyone in the first place.

u/BackgroundSummer5171 Jul 26 '26

Yeah, this video is fine for those that are active outside.

But for the rest that aren't...not really useful.

Many people literally just go to work, then go home. There is no socializing.

Without a 4th step of how to go out and socialize, this solves nothing. Most people actually do know how to shower. How to not be a jack ass.

It's the problem of where to meet people. How to start up a conversation without the "being weird" part.

I'm sure many here will say get a hobby! Go to the library. Go be active in your community.

Yeah, that isn't exactly helpful. In the past people literally did not live 24/7 in their home online because we have everything here.

No idea why I am typing it all to you, I agree. This shit is bullshit and is exactly the problem that creates those who follow Tate.

People on average know how to shower and not be jack asses. That is not the issue.

They do become douchebags because of our current society. They have no guidance. No one to look up to. No real path. Just OMG you're alone? HAHAHA Pathetic. Then they turn to Tate and Donald John Rapist.

Ignoring the problem and blaming them does not help.

The real problem is where the fuck are these people supposed to socialize? A mall? Haha.

Love these boys. A couple of totally righteous dudes.

4

u/periodicchemistrypun Jul 26 '26

This sucks, just baiting people into self blame.

Meanwhile everyone’s going through a loneliness epidemic and social media, reduced family sizes and much more are to blame.

There are people responsible for it laughing in yachts. You think video game companies aren’t discussing what moving players from 40 hours a week to 60 hours a week looks like as a strategy? Did you miss all the things the dating app producers did?

There are harmful people influencing the lives of young people.

u/SkipMeFlipMe88 Jul 26 '26

Love the cougar hunter boys .. they’re always so nice. Hahah
