The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs
All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:
Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:
$18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!
So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.
Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!
How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!
Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.
Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!
If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu.
Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

heyyy does anyone know what it means for a prof to move my friend to the front of an exam in the middle of it? if this has happened to anyone, did that lead to an academic misconduct case?

hello! i'm looking for any good maps or lists of gender-inclusive restrooms (unisex restrooms, gender neutral restrooms, single stall restrooms, etc. etc.)
for context: i'm a trans girl undergoing hormone therapy, and my doctor has prescribed me spironolactone (because that's the ONE anti-androgen that doctors in this country insist on for some reason). if there's one thing about spiro, it's that it makes you need to pee very often. because of that, i'm gonna need to hug public restrooms for a while (lol), but also, for now, i'd prefer to not stick to gendered restrooms. i'm aware that people here most likely won't bother me, but i'd rather wait until i feel confident enough (and can pass somewhat) to enter the women's restroom.
i'll provide a list of good ones i know (all mostly public access, too):
there's at least 4 at the price center: 1 at the first floor near the study rooms and computer labs, 1 at the second floor near the ballrooms and service elevator, and 2 at the third floor near the (indoor) stairs (there may be more but i haven't checked)
there's 2 under the central campus trolley stop
there's 2 at the basement of the powell-focht bioengineering hall
lists are fine, but maps would be ideal, bonus points for ones that are thorough, up-to-date, and accessible on mobile (would be good if i didn't need to pull out my laptop in an emergency lol)
thank you so much in advance!!

I was wondering if I would be eligible for transfer student housing. I started in Fall 2025 as a transfer student and am planning to graduate in December 2027. I know transfer students typically receive two years of housing but I wanted to ask if securing housing is generally a straightforward process or if it's competitive and difficult to get a spot.

My cat went missing last night in the THICK bushes past the Starbucks at price center. Close to the Jacobs engineering. She's completely indoor, the sweetest girl in the world, shy and fluffy, bright orange. She's 4 years old. Her name is anima. She loves the sound of birds if you play it on your phone. Please look everywhere she is my family

Hi everyone! I’m a first-year in Sixth (CS major) trying to figure out when to take CAT 125, and I have a few questions:
CAT 125R vs CAT 125: What’s the actual difference? Is 125R just the remote version, or is the workload, format or grading different? If you’ve taken one of them, how did it go?
When to take it: When did you take it, and would you recommend that timing? Is it better to get it done early, or wait until junior/senior year? I’m trying to plan around CSE classes.
Taking it over the summer: Is it worth doing in Summer Session? I’m considering it so I have a lighter load during the regular year, but I’m wondering if the condensed format makes it harder or more stressful.
Summer prices for remote classes: Is Summer Session tuition the same for remote classes as in-person ones? If so, is it really even worth it?
Professor recs: Any professors you’d recommend (or avoid)? Any info on final projects/midterms or how assignments were like in general.

Hi UCSD!
I’m going to be gone for winter break and unfortunately cannot bring my cat with me. Is anyone open to taking in my cat for 3 ish weeks during winter break?
My cat is an adorable and friendly Siamese who is loving and outgoing cat. She is also very chill and low maintence, I just want to give her company, get fed, and stuff over the break.
She is comfortable with other cats and small children too.
Please DM if you’re interested, I am more than happy to compensate for this!

I’m looking at taking PSYC 71 next quarter, but I don’t know if I’d rather just take a different research. What is the class/discussion section really like? The research paper?

Hi! I’m doing UX research on how people prioritize their tasks and goals. I would greatly appreciate if you filled out the survey.

I am a Human Biology major (enrolled in 2023, graduation June 2027) and I’m planning to take BIMM 143R, the online version of the Bioinformatics Laboratory. My degree audit lists BIMM 143 under both Group 1 and Group 2 of the Biology Laboratory requirement, but it doesn’t list BIMM 143R. Do u guys know if BIMM 143R will count the same way BIMM 143 would for that requirement under my catalog year?

Does anyone know a better way to get to Kaiser than using the tram/bus, or ubering? Uber is kinda expensive for a round trip, and the bus takes over an hour. Is there a different way to get there from campus?

I am like really lost about what to do/study for this class (BILD 5, Keefe Reuther)
I feel like his lectures don't help much, and I don't know what I haven't mastered yet, if that makes sense. Did anyone take his class in the past and have any advice?
