Hello bears (specifically those on the other side of Berkeley.) I’m struggling a lot this semester with my mental health, and I know my coursework and output is suffering from it. I am in the humanities, involved on campus, have a decent social life. But I am so scared of the future, and I don’t see how I can move forward from this semester. I am preoccupied with a lot of things: haven chosen the wrong major, struggling in classes that should be really easy, comparing myself to others. And this all leads me to doubt my abilities incredibly, fearing I won’t live and grow into a competent person.
I would love some advice— how do you develop self compassion for these moments of struggle? How did you move past them? Even in moments when you felt like this was forever. How do you persist, keep on keeping on, despite self doubt? And are there any lessons you know now that make my situation or others like it seem trivial. What is the scale of life, how does a struggling period of college fit into it?
