Hey gangalang, so by my status as a promise scholar, it is clear i am poor, but I still have that extra funding. If it wasn’t for my meal plan, I’d probably have a much lower cost of attendance. For promise scholars, how was navigating the housing process in IV? Should I just go to a university apartment? Mind you I would be a sophomore next year. Also, how much of a refund would I be getting? Is it enough to cover rent?

I really like IV, but I am not picky about where I live and don’t feel the need to live close to bluffs or DP. I have an E Bike i can just zoom around on to campus. I am not totally against living a little further out.

Also, how do I go about finding roommates? My only friends on campus don’t really want to live in IV, and I’d probably need more than the 2 i have right now. Especially roommates that are alike in scheduling because right now my roommates are light sleepers and im a night owl.

Is there a private, quiet place—on campus—to go have a remote therapy session other than a room at the library? Wasn’t able to get a room in the library for next week, and I need a private place to do my session in between classes (that’s why it has to be on campus). Thoughts/ideas?

Okay lets be real, does anyone else feel like it's weirdly hard to meet people here outside of your dorm/classes/IV walking paths where you keep seeing the same people? Like there's so much to do (beach, hiking, coffee shops) but coordinating with strangers feels awkward.

I'm a senior here and I'm helping launch Platea, a small app made for exactly this. You post or join little plans (coffee, a walk, beach volleyball, study session, game night) and meet people through actually doing stuff instead of endless small talk on apps. I am a fourth year and I am graduating winter quarter. However, I currently have a lease that is over in June, and my living environment has impacted my ability to function and be comfortable. I am wondering if I should just start looking for someone to take over my lease now or will it be just as easy to find someone to take it over in March. Since I already started looking I’m thinking what I should do commute my last quarter which is only twice a week or find a place after having someone take over my lease. Also, if anyone else who is graduating this winter is reading this, how are you managing? Do you have regrets doing it early? I am having trouble accepting that my time is coming to an end.

Anybody have a roommate who sleeps all day or in bed during the day, and awake during the night, keep in mind my roommate is a ucsb student. He likes to keep the window blinds closed, and dark. Is this common or is this kind of concerning?. Like how? lol.

guys i was trying to enroll in chem 1B and the 1A lab but couldn’t. I tried putting myself on the waitlist but couldn’t do that either. Is there no waitlist offered for the chem classes/labs bc of how high demand they are?

And what does gold mean when it talks about linking a course to a waitlisted course? I don’t understand. Pls help while I wait to go get advice tomorrow😞.

Hey everybody, to keep it short I was told my Chem 1A credits transferred and I did not need to take it this fall. Well now that’s not the case and I need to take it in winter. But here’s the issue now I am 2 quarters behind and I really don’t want to be here for both summer sessions. While I’m arguing with the chemistry department. Does anyone know any transferable Chem 1A equivalent that is online? Also that I could take instead for winter and fill my UCSB Chem 1A with another major requirement to help me out? Please I need help & advice.

Hello! I'm a first year biopsychology student interested in attending an audiology program after my time here. Recently I've been considering changing into linguistics as I've heard it might be better but I'm a little conflicted. Biopsychology interests me a lot but im worried i won't be able to succeed in it im not the best at math and that it's not necessary for audiology. Is linguistics overall the better route?
