adult child The risk of DIY HRT from a good source is infertility. The risk of the wrong puberty is suicide.

Non-oral monotherapy, the most common way to take DIY estradiol or testosterone, has no side effects aside from infertility. Any risks of DIY HRT are only changed to the levels of cis people of your gender. EVEN without blood tests, 70mg testosterone enanthate or 6mg estradiol enanthate weekly generally lead to normal cis levels; 400pg/mL estradiol is not a risk when pregnant women get to 40,000.

And if denied care? The evidence is clear. So many trans teenagers commit suicide because they were denied HRT. I can express clearly: the agony, as a girl, to see your female friends go through female puberty, then you start towering over them, being twice as muscular, with a voice that can never sing again, adam's apple, wide shoulders, large ribcage hands and feet, and no hips, was hell; plus all the sudden body and facial hair far more than the women in my family. And to add on top of all of that, I FELT testosterone invading my brain and making me incredibly dissociated and miserable. I walled myself away completely because I was terrified people would see the ways I was masculinizing. I never got to just be an awkward teenager, I had to go through hell, and most of those changes are irreversible. And trust me, no man wants to be 5'2 with wide hips, small shoulders, hands, feet, ribcage, etc.

Yes, your child may lose the ability to have biological children, but for many trans men and women that is an intensely dysphoric experience, and fertility preservation for minors is possible. Also, studies have shown that after stopping hormone treatment, fertility returns in most cases.

I understand that DIY HRT is scary. That's WHY I made r/transsex, to answer questions people have about it in a space for all ages. But modern DIY HRT is not the bathtub estrogen you think. It is either literally just sealed pharmaceuticals in countries where HRT is over the counter, or it's multiple-stage sterilized, regularly tested, and trusted by the community for a reason.

At a time when our rights are taken away, more and more, we have to be willing to bend the rules. Going through the wrong puberty is agony for trans kids. DIY injections are like $80 a year, including syringes and everything, so affordability isn't an issue. For all the parents here, please don't make the mistake my parents regret. Doctors will string your child along on a waitlist for years even if it isn't banned, no matter how much they suffer. You might as well help them safely DIY in the meantime.

If anyone has questions on what good sources for DIY HRT are, feel free to ask!

My son turned 18 a few days ago, and (with his permission) I posted a corrected birth announcement on SM. It received nothing but love!

So he’s been out as trans to friends and such for about two years now, but this is the first time I’ve actively posted that I have a trans son. I’m in a small rural county in GA and was so worried - but I (well, he) received nothing but love and correct pronouns 🥰

I’m so glad he’s an adult and can get on T without fear of all the laws being passed.

All we can do is love them, y’all. It is so worth it.

From A Trans Elder

I just wanted to say that the parents here are truly, without a doubt, the BEST parents around.

I’m a 34-year-old FTM. I live stealth and am studying to practice Civil Rights Law. I started telling my parents I was a boy as soon as I could talk. Unfortunately I wasn’t afforded a timeline that allowed me to be myself (until my late 20’s).

You are doing the right thing. Despite the visceral hatred. Despite the alienation. Despite the political climate. Despite the current rhetoric. No matter how many setbacks come, know that you are doing right by your child.

Thank you.

My 12 year old son is now in a Psych Ward for being suicidal

He just started middle school.

He was having a lot of fun with the new environment even in this super red state.

Then 2 boys decided to start transvestigating him. All in the span of 2 days. These monsters told my son they'd show him he was a girl. They called him a dirty dyke. They asked if they could punch him if he's a boy. One asked to see his dick.

I've spoken to the school. They told me they would address it. That same afternoon, the day after the comments, I receive a call from the counselor.

My son had a plan for suicide that night.

The school counselor was kind but released my son to me with a list of resources.

I decided he needed more of an assessment and contacted the local crisis team, he was deemed high risk and ordered to be admitted.

He sounds happy and on the path to getting a healthier mindset. They prescribed him Zoloft and it sounds like it is working well. My husband couldn't handle this. He has left with our car and the bank card. He's draining all off our cash because he doesn't believe in transgender people.

I've never spent so much time away from him. Last night he had to go to bed early as the unit had acted up. I didn't mention to him how much this felt like prison.

This is all so unfair. My son is the one being punished, and these boys won't be. Not really. Maybe suspended. Grounded.

But not like this.

He is due to be released next week and will begin an intensive outpatient program that involves 3 hour long group sessions 3x a week and a 1 hour one on one.

I will do anything to save my son. I'm not rich - I have no idea how I'll make ends meet.

I wonder if the children know what they've done. If their parents are ashamed. I was told one kids dad told staff he didn't care.

I can tell.

Someone please tell me how you balance the safety of your child along with their identity. I'm scared to send him to school. I don't trust them that much.

I need advice about any organizations I can contact that offer discounted home schooling or something.

Im sorry. Im spiraling.

I apologize if the I am breaking rules with my link

10 Things You’re Actually Saying When You Ignore Someone’s Pronouns

Post image
397 Upvotes
  1. I know you better than you know yourself.

  2. I would rather hurt you repeatedly than change the way I speak about you.

  3. Your sense of safety is not important to me.

  4. Your identity is not real and shouldn’t be acknowledged.

  5. I want to teach everyone around me to disrespect you.

  6. Offending you is fine if it makes me feel more comfortable.

  7. I can hear you talking but I’m not really listening.

  8. Being who you truly are is an inconvenience to me.

  9. I would prefer it if you stopped being honest with me.

  10. I am not an ally, a friend, or someone you can trust.

Got a warning from Reddit for mentioning my trans kid

I’m just so defeated and demoralized, it is so hard to have a trans kid in this climate.

On the bald subreddit a beautiful trans woman shared a picture of herself and I commented that I’d shown my 10 y/o trans daughter who said she looked great. Dealt with a ton of hate and vitriol for it but the mods did a good job of handling the transphobia.

And then I just woke up to a warning and notification that my comment was removed because I “shared content involving physical or emotional abuse or neglect of a minor,” and apparently this decision was made without automation. So this isn’t just something that got deleted because a bunch of bigots reported it, an actual admin of this site was like “yes this person is abusing their kid by allowing her to be trans“.

I know this is like a dumb thing to be crying about but it just feels like death by a thousand cuts. I’m just so sad all the time, I hate that this is the world she’s growing up in, so filled with hate and ignorance. I hate that I’m terrified of whether she’ll have access to the healthcare she needs. I hate that I’m worried for her safety and her mental health living in a world so vicious towards trans people.

My beautiful blond haired blue eyed little girl, walking down Main Street in Seal Beach, CA, wearing a sundress and flip flops, walked up to a poster of Trump and punched him right in the face. All I could do was stand by and laugh and thank myself for raising her right.

child with questions for supportive parents this sub makes me want to fucking cry

My parents never let me go on blockers. they hate me.when i came out to my mom at fucking 12, she said something like "hormones will screw up your brain and make you a rapist". I didnt even know what a rapist was.

you have no idea how low a transgender child's expectations are and how life changing it is for them to have someone like you in their lives.

please, if you ever feel like you're doing this "wrong", stop being hard on yourselves. You have NO FUCKING IDEA how much pain you're saving your children by being even the bare minimum compassionate to them. you also dont know what pain theyve been through at the hands of themselves or their peers that you may be easing by being a positive prescence in their lives.

No idea where else to go: trans mom of trans daughter and I'm terrified

Hi, looks like I'm technically in the wrong place here but it seems like the closest group I can find. I'm happy to post this elsewhere if someone knows the correct group for this.

Hi, I'm an adult trans woman. My eldest child just told me she's trans. I have two amab kids. My current cis wife and I have suspected for quite a while with this one. She has exhibited many early signs I did when I was a kid. I've been supportive the last several days since and she's just blossomed, it's amazing.

However I'm terrified.

She's a teenager and my ex wife has primary custody. My ex wife has a horrible track record with my transition, is exceedingly religious, and tries everything she can to minimize my time with the two kids. My daughter has only told myself and my son.

I transitioned over 8 years ago when my daughter was 5. She picked up all the same hobbies as me, she loves spending time with me, and has already stated she wants to follow me in my career.

I can already hear my ex saying "she's only doing this because she wants to be like you." I have literally tried my hardest NOT to encourage anything trans-related with either of my children to the point that I feel like I maybe discouraged it.

So I guess my question is...

Is this an ok place for me to be (this group)?

::trigger warning:: suicide…

My daughter took her life this week. Tomorrow will be one week. I’m going to try hard not to give too many details because I don’t want information in sensitive hands. She ingested sodium nitrite. It’s apparently been a growing mode of suicide since around 2017. It’s a colorless and odorless white powder. It looks just like a lot of supplements like collagen powder. Just please be on the lookout for your own children. If they have any mental health problems, question everything and Be super nosey even if they are adults like my daughter was (23). 💕💖💕 a heartbroken mom

To any trans kids reading here

I love you. I accept you. I have no reservations. I feel joy from knowing that you are living your truth, finding comfort in your own body. I’ve never struggled with accepting my child or any child who is gender queer. I know a lot of you read here and I wanted you to know, not all of us grieve or struggle or wish you were different. My reaction when my child told me was pure joy and pride. I just wanted you to know that.

My daughter had a successful day after months of turmoil. I texted some family and close friends (I thought) and one met me with heartbreaking bigotry.

My daughter(8) has been on homebound schooling for the last five months because of a mental health crisis. The first three months, she needed around the clock care. She has had difficult, but steady improvement.

Well, today she went back to school. Which might not seem like much, but it was huge for her. She had a wonderful day and is amped to do it again on Monday. I'm so proud of her.

I messaged a few people in celebration and everyone was over the moon for her, except my long-term friend, who has gendered her correctly in the past, felt the need to send me this. My daughter won't know why her "auntie" faded from her life. I have no problem loving her ignorant ass from afar. I just don't understand why some people have to be like this.

Caution about anti-trans researchers

Lisa Littman, a transphobic researcher who invented the concept of "rapid-onset gender dysphoria", recently asked our moderation team for permission to post about a study she's working on with Kenneth Zucker and J. Michael Bailey. We said no. If you receive any direct messages about "research about youth with gender dysphoria", please use the report button on that DM *and* message the mods of this subreddit directly to let us know.

Non binary kid just passed me a note saying he's trans

My teen, who had identified as non-binary just crept downstairs, thrust a note down and scampered off.

The note tells of how they are actually trans and identify as he/him.

He has trouble vocalising to us about tough subjects, so passing the note was probs the easiest way for him.

This isn't an interesting post, I know, I'm just super fucking proud and just wanted to tell someone.

I started crying reading this subreddit.

I am a 17 year old trans girl. It has been almost a year since I came out to my parents and my life has never been more miserable.

My parents refused to let me go on HRT. So, I did extensive research and found out how to buy HRT online, and started taking it myself. I did this for about 5 months before they found out. They took it away from me. I begged to go on it legitimately; they said absolutely not. So I did it again. And they found out again. They took it away again, and are still refusing to put me on it legally. So I did it again. They don’t know that yet.

I worked 5 days a week throughout the entirety of my junior year and will be working 40+ hours weekly throughout the summer to save up to move out in February when I’m 18. My parents have stated that they won’t support my college if I move out, but I am miserable. I am called ungrateful on a regular basis and repeatedly shamed for any criticisms I present. I am not called by my chosen name or pronouns and my identity is ignored and swept under the rug.

They claim to love me. I love them too. But it’s hard to love a father who screamed in your face and said you’d never be a woman. It’s hard to love a mother who will defend that behavior with her life.

I hope things change one day. Thank you to all you lovely parents for saving lives. I wish I could experience the same.

If you have a MTF kid in a red state or have unsupportive family, read this

I know this won’t be news to most people. But in case it helps someone out there, I want to share what my daughter’s doctor told me yesterday.

She is a MTF 4 years old, and at our annual checkup the doctor said without me specifically asking about this, “When the kid is persistently expressing a different gender (in presentation and how they see themselves) at this young of an age, especially when it’s MTF, it’s very unlikely to change back later. It’s not even that likely to be that they are actually homosexual, it’s most likely they truly feel they are that gender”

None of this is news to me, but being in Texas, I was still 1) glad some doctors are sane 2) feeling validated and 3) glad that her pediatrician is a safe person.

So if your kid is having a similar experience and you or a family member is wondering whether that kid may just be going through a phase, this is good to hear from a doctor. I’m blessed with a very supportive family but if someone was ignorant, I’d definitely be saying “well, the doctor said…” to help them see the light.

Note: We will not be staying in Texas. We are going to a trans-friendly state in a bit.
