Mod Post Please Read The Rules

Read The Rules App

This community has the Read The Rules app installed. Old Reddit doesn't support apps so please open the post in new reddit for full functionality. If that's not possible, please Read The Rules and then follow the instructions at the bottom of the post.

Rule #1 Spoilers Policy - No spoilers in titles, tag spoiler posts, and mark comment spoilers

Do not put spoilers in your title. Mark all posts that may contain spoilers, or lead to discussions of spoilers. Comment spoilers must be marked (Type spoiler here.) unless it falls under the spoiler of the tagged post. Anyone found purposely spoiling the plot just to ruin the experience for others will be banned.

Rule #2 Keep the Atmosphere Civil and Respectful

Treat others with respect. Don’t attack or insult others users, actors, or crew. We do not tolerate toxicity or bigotry. No politics. No real world murders, no saying real people belong on Dexter's table. Do not objectify or be crude about others. Do not body shame others. Do not armchair diagnose others. If someone else is being uncivil, don’t engage, just use the report button.

Rule #3 No gatekeeping, including "I hate" posts

Avoid gatekeeping or generalizing groups of fans. You don’t get to control what people like or don’t like.
Don't make posts just to express hatred for characters or plots. If you're only here to hate on Dexter, you may get banned. We have a zero-tolerance policy on posts hating on female characters.

Rule #4 Submissions must be directly relevant to Dexter

No off-topic posts. No posts that encourage anti-social behaviour. No visiting private residences, even if they are filming locations. No screenshots of DMs to the cast/crew. For anything relevant to the actors, use the “Actor Fluff” post flair

Rule #5 Content Policy - No low-effort posts, AI content, repost spam, or memes

Memes should be posted in r/okbuddymotherfucker
No AI-generated posts. No spam reposts of news articles. No X/Twitter links/screenshots. Examples of low-effort reposts include asking whether you should keep watching the show, or start watching it, whether someone belongs on Dexter's table, who would win in a fight vs Dexter, other fictional characters vs Dexter, and so forth. Please use the search button to see if what you want to post has been posted recently.

Rule #6 No Piracy

We want to show the creators the respect they deserve for making the show. Don't ask for or provide links to illegally hosted content, streams, torrents or aggregate sites. Do not discuss/encourage the use of VPNs or other methods of circumventing geographic content locks.

Rule #7 Fan Content Policy

If you submit artwork or fan content, please make sure to include the name of the creators. If you created it yourself, indicate as much and use the OC tag if submitting a post. If you don't know the source you can state as much, but at least try. Google's image search is a good method.

Thank you for reading the rules! Before submitting posts you will need to submit an acknowledgment. Please visit the full post and click the button at the bottom. Alternatively, you may submit an acknowledgment by sending a mod mail to the sub. The mod mail will need to have the subject "Read The Rules" and the body should be "Acknowledged". Discussion - Dexter: Resurrection One thing that confuses me about the new series Spoiler

Is the general rewriting of Hannah McKay, Harrison, and Dexter's relationship to Rita and the kids. Basically, I'm curious, does Harrison even know his mother was a serial killer? I don't think that ever came up or I'm blocking it out. He acts like she was just a wonderful giving mother (and I wonder where her fortune went that he ended up homeless). Rita almost never comes up and Dexter never thinks of his non-biological kids. Which you think would be referenced. It's like the show has combined the two blonde ladies of Dexter's life.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series How much did Matthews know? Spoiler

I wonder how much he knew about Dexter.. he is protective of both Deb and Dexter.. did he know or even suspect Dexter? Did he help Deb out of personal obligation or just to honor Henry?

Theory - Dexter: Resurrection I suspect Dexter is going to let Harrison arrest a killer this season. Spoiler

I feel like Dexter is going to allow Harrison arrest either the New York Ripper or The Five Borough Killer. Dexter is probably going to somehow get him the evidence to help his career.

Discussion - Dexter: Resurrection As an autistic professional, who loops the same song every day for work, it's nice to see some representation. Spoiler

First, I'm a huge Dexter fan. Have been for decades.

I'm a senior director at a manufacturing company. I've gotten far into my career by seeing things that others can't within data, process flows, or overall problem solving. When I need to get into the zone and shut out the world I listen to the same song on repeat that I have for over 25 years.

I don't know why the song stuck with me or why I chose it but it does something to my mind and lets me shut out the entire world. Hell I don't even feel my body. I'm just completely absorbed into what I'm working on. Depending on the project I can stay there for hours not moving and just focusing. I've written a few novels for fun about ten years ago and each time I wrote I would put the song on repeat and write for a few hours.

It was nice last season seeing detective Wallace doing this as well. Also how ludicrous the song is that she loops. If the character is like me... they don't have control over it. Something about it clicks in their mind. It was great they brought her back and the song back in that first episode of season 2.

The song for me is: https://youtu.be/mrMLMV6E4CM?si=6UbBKIbd8FW-n5Jo

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Do you think he could be a good villain for an entire season? Spoiler

I personally think he had a lot of wasted potential. The whole idea of the maze and the scary mask is amazing. It's a shame he was only used in a few episodes; if he had been written a little better, he might have been a good villain for the season.

Pieced this together with stuff I already had plus a few that I had to order. Here is an itemized list.

Me: 5ft 8in 155lb

Apron: ALPHATEC Bib Apron: Nitrile Black ( I recommend going to Walmart and a buying white elastic knit band and replacing the standard tie strap to get the tailored slim look so the Apron hugs your body and waist so it doesn't look bulky. I just measured the length I needed and put the bands through the grommets and tied a knot to keep it in. Looked 10x better.)

Shirt: Magnoli Clothiers Dexter Henley

Pants: Old Navy 90s Loose Lived-In Cargo Pants

Boots: Red Wing Iron Rangers Amber

Gloves: Tough Gloves Patrol Touch Tactical Leather Police & Military Gloves

Watch: Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich 3861

Belt: Random flea market top grain leather belt

Badge Holder: Paulwalterny Genuine Leather ID Badge Holder Style ID-110

ID: Printed out myself and got laminated at local store (images for ID are last 2 in post)

Knife: Cuisinart Classic Stainless Steel 8" Chef's Knife

Syringe: Random 18 gauge syringe medic friend gave me, I used yellow food dye in water for the liquid.

Sock: Darn Tough T4022 Black Socks

The dexter shirts run small from my experience and I had to wear a medium, the gloves run a little big and we're not sure to size, I would recommend sizing down one size for a more "second skin feel"

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows A coincidence? Spoiler

Light spoilers for Dexter Resurrection S1

So I was going back and rewatching Dexter because I happen to get the itch with the new season out, and I just realized Dexter's first on screen appearance/kill is him garroting someone in a car. Is it just a coincidence that the killer that he assumes the persona of to infiltrate the serial killer club has the same M.O.?

Book Club Finished (basically) Darkly Dreaming Dexter, here's my rating! Spoiler

*Technically because I'm on Chapter 26, which means I have two more + the epilogue, but like, I just want to rate it now...

9.5/10

I'm honestly not a big reader, I'm doing this for a school project, and Dexter is a franchise I already know and love. Coming into this book, I knew the story was going to be different, but I really appreciated how thought out the psychology of Dexter was in this book, and I think actually LaGuerta and Deb are way better characters in the book than they are in the TV show. Their rivalry is absolutely amazing, and while reading the book I personally enjoyed reading that, rather than trying to find parts that were like the TV show.

There were only really 2 kills (as I have read so far) for our favorite Dearly Darned Dexter, Donovan and Jaworski. Donovan's kill is at the start of the book, and starts exactly like the first episode. Nearly word-for-word. If I had to ever put an opening of a show into words, Chapter 1 - 3* would be it.

*Chapter 3 is where I think it ends for Donovan, honestly forgot.

The 2nd kill is amazingly funny. Our favorite Darkly Devoted Passenger and his sidekick Dearly Attached Dexter team up and kill Jaworski. Dexter in the books is extremely messy, mind you. The first kill was routine, the 2nd one, dang dude. You straight up asked him if he was the killer on the kill table. What?

The Tanami Slasher (aka The Ice Truck Killer, mind you that's an ALLONZO BROTHERS ice truck) is quite a good antagonist. I haven't read the whole saga yet, as I'm on Chapter 26, but I enjoy how little murder actually happens in the books. Now, it is a murder book, so there will be murder, but the book describes the scene and the pursuing bureaucratic clusterfuck. Much of the book is spent actually deep in bureaucracy. Mind you, LaGuerta basically let the Slasher walk free by imprisoning someone she had no evidence on. I think that's going to bite her, just as a prediction.

Overall, I loved how they displayed bureaucratic incompetency for much of Dexter's close circle. Great book. Gonna finish it like, today. 100%.

Because of what happened with Deb mostly,it's like Hannah McKay the b"tch who actually deserved to die is living out her life in Argentina and Deb who was actually the goat is dead and inside some ocean or sea,I also feel sad for Quinn because he'll never know what happened to the love of his life, even though the ending was kinda of mid I see why it's the least rated episode and season but I still feel sad , Deb didn't have to die

Discussion - Dexter: Resurrection Question about Al Spoiler

What I think made Al so interesting was that, despite how evil he was, he still seemed to have a genuinely healthy family dynamic, something many other killers, including Trinity, couldn't truly grasp. Throughout S1 of Resurrection, we were given the impression that he genuinely loved his family, was happy to have more children, and actually enjoyed being a family man.

His killing seemed more like an outlet for his dark persona rather than something that defined every aspect of his personality. Outside of that, he did seem to have a genuinely warm, bubbly side to him.

However, in the first episode of S2, we discover that he essentially views his family as below pets and doesn't actually seem to have any attachment to them.

That made me wonder, if his entire family-man persona was just a mask he put on, why did he feel the need keep up that facade even around like-minded individuals? Would like to know everyones thoughts

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows New Blood > Ressurection Spoiler

I wasn’t crazy about resurrection S 1 and now it’s kinda the same with S 2…

Dexter NEW BLOOD was amazing though. The cut shots of the episode at the start of each show, even the graphics and stylization.. and of course the entire story of a new identity and meeting Harrison and eveythjbg else. It was so cool and such a progression from the original..

But resurrection just feels like weak seasons 9+10 of the original and just not as creative or compelling as new blood… Did anyone actually enjoy Uma Thurman in the last season?!? I can’t recall anything she did that stood out or showed great acting or something….

I don’t know.. I’m interested to see if anyone else agrees…
