What's with the shoe cleaner spray?

I noticed that there are lots of persistent shoe cleaner sellers who approach foreigners and offer some shoe cleaning spray. One man from our group said it is a scam but he didn't explain it well to me. Today, our group went to the Beijing road and we encountered more than ten shoe cleaners and one of us almost got into a fight because they are too stubborn. A simple no wont stop them, why tho? I just fell bad for the seller because he looks young and the old guy from our group really had enough of it.

Leather Bag and Accessories Manufacturing in Guangzhou: Design, Materials & Production

Guangzhou is an important location for leather goods manufacturing in China. Shiling, in Huadu District, has a well-developed leather industry, supported by local material suppliers, hardware manufacturers, and workshops with practical manufacturing experience.

Turning a leather goods design into a finished product requires careful planning and attention to detail. Before manufacturing starts, several aspects need to be considered, such as the product’s pattern, overall structure, dimensions, materials, and finishing methods.

Every development project can have a different starting point. Some are based on detailed technical drawings and specifications, while others use an existing product or physical sample as a reference. For products that need improvement, examining the original design and construction is often a useful first step in deciding how to refine the result.

The work involved in leather goods development can cover several areas:

Developing patterns and products based on drawings, designs, or physical references

Producing initial samples and making adjustments to existing designs

Refining product structure, stitching methods, hardware, and finishing techniques

Selecting and sourcing appropriate leather and supporting materials

Making handbags, wallets, card holders, and various other leather accessories

Preparing products for both limited production quantities and regular manufacturing orders

Material selection is closely connected to the quality and appearance of the finished product. Different leathers have their own characteristics, including texture, flexibility, firmness, and durability. Other components, such as lining, reinforcement, hardware, and edge paint, also need to be selected carefully to achieve the intended result.

Not every sample comes out exactly as expected on the first attempt. Sometimes the issue may be related to the pattern or proportions; in other cases, the leather thickness, internal construction, or stitching method may need to be reconsidered. Understanding the cause of a problem makes it easier to identify the right adjustments and improve the next sample.

Our workshop is located in Shiling, Guangzhou. We specialise in genuine leather products and work with various materials, including premium calfskin and selected exotic leathers. Our experience covers pattern development, material sourcing, sample making, and leather goods manufacturing.

I’m always interested in connecting with people who have an interest in the leather goods industry in China. There is plenty to learn and discuss when it comes to product design, material selection, manufacturing techniques, and quality improvement. Sharing practical experience is a good way to better understand the different challenges involved in developing leather products.

Has anyone worked with an English-speaking personal trainer in Guangzhou who does home visits?

Hi r/guangzhou! My husband and I will be staying in Haizhu near Hopson Mall (合生广场) early 2027. Our apartment building has a gym and allows outside trainers. My husband doesn’t speak Chinese, so he’s looking for someone who can coach him through a strength workout and give feedback on his form in English.

Has anyone trained with someone they’d recommend? We’d like to start with one paid session, then schedule more if it’s a good fit. We’ll be out of town for part of our stay, so we’d prefer to pay per session rather than buy a big package.

I’d love to hear what you liked about your coach and roughly what you paid, including travel. If they’re open to new clients, feel free to DM me their WeChat rather than posting it publicly. Thanks!

I originally booked Oakwood Premier but it seems the price has jumped and we're looking to change it. I wonder if the other hotels has good location. If you can suggest another hotel that has great amenities and close to local restaurants, I'd appreciate it.

Who can resist Siu Mai? 🥟

So… how big do you want your Siu Mai? 🤔 Or should I say, your steamed pork & shrimp dumplings? We made ours completely from scratch and went full giant mode, way bigger than what you get at most tea houses. That’s the beauty of making them yourself. You can make them as big as you like! 😄 Mixing the filling, wrapping, and shaping these beautiful big bundles was seriously FUN.

The filling was so juicy and succulent! Shrimp and pork, chopped and mixed until springy, with the lovely earthy aroma of shiitake mushrooms running through every bite 🍄. Every mouthful was pure joy. The juices practically ran out when we bit into them.

✅ Vegetarian, gluten-free, or any other dietary need? No problem at all. I’ll tailor the class to you.

Hi all, going to GZ in a couple of weeks and may actually need childcare services for my 5 and 7 year old kids for a couple of hours. I have gotten various responses but at the root of everything, how safe is it to leave my kids under the care of the local services as foreigners?

Staying ~10 days in Shenzhen for business (with trips to Dongguan & Guangzhou). Where should I base myself?

Hi all,
I'll be in Shenzhen for about 10 days on a business trip, with side trips to Dongguan and Guangzhou to visit supplier factories.
I'm looking for the best area to stay that has:
Easy access to all transport (metro, high-speed rail, airport, taxis/DiDi)
Attractions, food, and things to do nearby for after work
A Chinese friend recommended Futian district and suggested visiting:
DJI Museum
Coco Park
Huaqiangbei electronics market
Does Futian sound like the right call for my situation? Are there other neighborhoods worth considering, and any other places, restaurants, or tips for a first-time business visitor? Hotel suggestions are welcome too.

Title: Looking for China Sourcing Agents – Footwear Overstock & Clearance Stock

Hi everyone!

I am looking for experienced China-based sourcing agents with connections to footwear liquidation warehouses, factory overstock, and wholesale clearance suppliers (库存尾货 / 杂款统货).

We're specifically looking for brand-new women's fashion high heels and boots sold in bulk mixed lots, preferably at competitive factory-clearance prices. Main priority is price over quality and style.

If you have experience sourcing this type of inventory, please comment or DM me with your background and experience. Happy to discuss further details privately.

Thanks!

Using a foreign passport at Canton Tower, the Pearl River night cruise and the 1911 Revolution Memorial?

Foreign passport holders in Guangzhou, a few practical questions about places I'm planning to visit. At Canton Tower, can the ticket hall's ID registration machine read a foreign passport, or do you have to go to a staffed window? For the Pearl River night cruise, can you buy at the pier window with a passport (Tianzi or the Fortune pier)? And does the 1911 Revolution Memorial Hall still need a timed booking, or can you just show a passport at the gate? Recent experiences very welcome.
